Partial solar eclipse

25.10.2022 at 13.13 - Saarijärvi (III)
Maritta Kinnunen

I will try to send these pictures again. For some reason, the phone does not allow adding new ones to previous posts. The first two pictures are genuinely visible eclipses. The first taken at 13:13 and the second at 13:41. The rest of the pictures are reflections. The one on the roof is probably close to the maximum. Taken at 1:18 p.m.

Partial solar eclipse

25.10.2022 at 13.25 - Jyväskylä (III)
Vesa Vasankari, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

I'll go back to last week's partial solar eclipse and show you a few pictures of an alternative way to observe the phenomenon. I noticed what I saw in the pictures quite by chance when I was removing all kinds of "shot from the hip" snaps from my cell phone. If there are no tools other than a camera - that is, e.g. no filters - a valid method of verifying the phenomenon would seem to be to observe the change in the reflection inside the lens. That usually round reflection phenomenon in the pictures now appeared as a sickle and the only reason I came up with is that because there was a ...

Partial solar eclipse

25.10.2022 at 12.14 - 14.18 - Järvenpää (III)
Keijo Toikkanen, Keski-Uudenmaan Altair

Clouds prevented detection of the solar eclipse at visible light wavelengths, but our association's Solar Storm Radio Telescope was able to detect it. Dimming can be seen as a change in signal strength in both curves, but much more clearly in the lower one. There, the signal gets stronger from around 12:14 and returns to normal level around 14:18. DHO38's curve shows a shallow pit.

Partial solar eclipse

25.10.2022 at 13.14 - Siilinjärvi (III)
Seija Laitinen

The sky looked gloomy at first, but for a few minutes there was an opening in the clouds, through which the sun could be seen quite clearly.

Toni Veikkolainen, Keski-Uudenmaan Altair

In connection with the Nordic seismology seminar, I also observed the weather and found that filming equipment stronger than a phone camera was in the workplace for no reason. The rain weakened toward the end of the eclipse, but the sky remained concrete gray.

Partial solar eclipse

25.10.2022 at 12.30 - Suonenjoki (III)
Vesa Vauhkonen, Sisä-Savon Ursa

The partial solar eclipse was only partially visible on Tyyrinmäki. in the beginning. Towards the end, the eclipse became total. The animations show the stages of the eclipse and a typical telescope view for a few seconds. Sometimes it's cloudy, sometimes it's a total blast. In addition, a single video frame.

Partial solar eclipse

25.10.2022 at 12.28 - 12.32 - Kuopio, Syvänniemi

Partial solar eclipse. I had time to observe for a while. Foggy frosty morning. The cloud cover moved appropriately so that the eclipse could be seen and also visibly recorded.

Partial solar eclipse

25.10.2022 at 12.44 - Kuhmo, Niemiskylä (III)

Surprisingly, there was so much thin cloud over the sun that I managed to snap a cell phone picture with only sunglasses on. Later, the fog also rose, sometimes a narrow sickle could be seen through it.

Partial solar eclipse

25.10.2022 at 12.10 - 14.40 - Parikkala (III)
Antti Taskinen, Joensuun Seulaset

I drove to observe the partial solar eclipse in Parikkala, where the weather forecast promised a clearer sky than in Joensuu. However, the choice of the place did not hit the spot, because after a quarter of an hour from the start of the eclipse, probably the only line of clouds in the vicinity arrived from the southeast direction to disturb my shooting efforts. It did rain a bit, when a kilometer or two further west there would have been a completely clear sky. But it didn't help to go and change the place, because it would have taken a long time to disassemble and reassemble the filming ...

Partial solar eclipse

25.10.2022 at 13.15 - 13.20 - Utsjoki (III)
Mikko Suominen, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

Participating in the eclipse show organized by Utsjoki Ursa. Through the projection tuned by the organizer of the event, Juhani Harjunharja (pictured), everyone present could admire the eclipse more deeply than anywhere else in Finland.

Partial solar eclipse

25.10.2022 at 12.52 - 12.55 - Kauhava (III)
Jari Kankaanpää, Lakeuden Ursa

Just before the maximum, I got the rascals stretched and ready to shoot. Here in western Finland, the eclipse was visible cloudless from beginning to maximum. The final stages are partly filtered by the cloud cover and the final itself is still relatively good. There were interesting almond clouds on the southwest horizon and part of the session was spent recording them with a digital camera.

Partial solar eclipse

25.10.2022 at 12.27 - 14.34 - Savonlinna (III)

I observed the Sun from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. After the peak, the clouds drifted in, covering the sun so effectively that I couldn't really get any pictures for twenty minutes. He noticed with his own eyes that the light output of the Sun weakened during the eclipse.

Partial solar eclipse

25.10.2022 at 13.17 - Kuopio (III)
Kimmo Laitinen, Ursa (Itä-Suomi)

The sky was overcast for almost the entire eclipse, but during one clearer moment it was possible to take a few low-quality pictures through the window and the trees.

Partial solar eclipse

25.10.2022 at 13.15 - 13.20 - Hirvensalmi (III)
Pirjo Riikonen

Just clear all morning, but suddenly at 13:20 the sky became cloudy. Photo taken with a cell phone.

Eclipse was overcast

25.10.2022 at 12.03 - 14.18 - Helsinki
Timo Vartiala, Ursa (Helsinki)

The purpose was to film a time-lapse video of the eclipse. The previous day and evening were clear and I was able to complete the polar orientation of the stand. During the eclipse, the tripod was allowed to pass the rain and the shooting location changed to a flower bush, from which I took a series of photos with the camera settings defined before the start of the eclipse, which I used throughout the series. According to the exposure meter, the deepest phase of the eclipse was - 2 apertures, which is more than the decrease in sunlight would cause. The variation in cloud cover thickness explai...

Partial solar eclipse

25.10.2022 at 12.15 - 14.05 - Kokkola (III)
Joni Virtanen

A wonderful autumn and clear day. I observed the eclipse from Kokkola's Harriniemi. I was hoping for thin clouds as a filter, but the weather remained really clear, so shooting without a filter was quite challenging.

Partial solar eclipse

25.10.2022 at 12.13 - 14.34 - Imatra (III)
Rauno Paivinen, Etelä-Karjalan nova

Imatra had surprisingly good weather all day and I was able to photograph the entire eclipse. This time I used a mobile phone as a camera with an eyepiece adapter. The tube was a Herschell Tal100RS wedge iron. The attached photo was taken at 1:13 p.m., a little before the maximum moment. This time too, I noted that the light and colors of the landscape become somehow louder as the eclipse progresses.

Partial solar eclipse

25.10.2022 at 12.15 - 14.25 - Jyväskylä (III)
Aleksi Ruotsila, Jyväskylän Sirius

The beginning of the eclipse was visible through clouds of varying thickness, but when the weather cleared, I managed to put together a small timelapse of the end of the eclipse.
