Quiet aurora arc

5.11.2018 at 01.50 - 02.40 - Rautalampi (II)
Vesa Vauhkonen, Sisä-Savon Ursa

During the most spectacular phase, there was a rather heavy fog. By morning, the play was already fading.

I had thought to drive to Niemennokka to capture images of deep sky objects in reasonably warm conditions, but the northern lights captured attention this time. I quickly moved from the lawn of Niemennoka to the cliff of the north shore and got Niko Salo and Jesse Nyyssönen as the filming club. The time was great to talk. Again, green was the predominant color of the northern lights, although red was evident especially in the early stages at the bottom of the belt and in the final stages in the rays. There were also a bit of blue rays just in the best moments of the play. When the quieter phas...

Tommi Järvilehto, Vaasan Andromeda

Probably a wonderful Northern Lights evening with SAR arches all over Finland. The coast of Vaasa was in the cloud. For a while, however, the clear sky was visible and I was able to take some pictures. The lower clouds moved at a rapid pace.

Tomi Kurri, Porin Karhunvartijat

I was on an evening walk when I noticed an arc of northern lights on the horizon above the skyline of Tampere, I immediately set off on a running leg to get a camera. The northern lights were visually stunning, and even the light pollution in Tampere did not spoil the great colors. Really awesome experience. In the pictures Näsinneula can be seen behind Pyynikinharju, other landmarks in the picture e.g. Ilves and Torni Hotel.

Diffuse glow

Timo Inkinen, Ursa (Etelä-Suomi)

Because of SpaceWetyaher's warning, I knew to expect possible northern lights to the south, and when it became clear, I set up a telescope in the evening to photograph the starry sky and later in the evening from 22:00 to 22:20 check to see if anything appeared on the repo on the Hyvinkää horizon. The result is rather modest aurora borealis images of the evening night sky and the lower horizon. Somewhere in Ostrobothnia it might have been more beautiful, but this was also the case when I had a few years of the previous repos ...

Repo alarm. Based on the camera image of Metsähovi, I grabbed a control image from the front door. Poor greenery was found in the picture. EDIT. After all, I had to go bonga properly wearing clothes. The neters and Croces focused well for a few minutes. At the same time, I raise the rating from very visible in the photos to very dim. The greenery to the north stood out with the naked eye, but the green and red in the high sky stood out only with a camera. I already mentioned whether I had my first SAR finding but I don't know. On the one hand, the red color appears to be initially adjacent...

Quiet aurora band

4.11.2018 at 20.15 - 22.10 - Mäntsälä, Ohkola (II)
Teppo Laitinen, Keski-Uudenmaan Altair

A little bit already on the Saturday side, the northern lights I was waiting for came on Sunday. I immediately noticed that there seems to be a SAR arc there. The test image revealed the observation to be true. When I clicked the pictures, I said that the SAR was also visible the last time, so why did it appear so often. Otherwise, the northern lights were typical repos of the middle level in southern Finland. #sarg

Half-sky auroras

4.11.2018 at 19.40 - 22.20 - Akaa (IV)
Seija Hakala

By half-past eight o'clock, the wide arches were already high. A handsome fan rose from the south as well. The arches lived relatively calmly all the time until the best show started at 9.30pm. The northern lights were handsome in sight and moved for a long time. Even after that, there were small stretches of activity but it was already getting so damp cold that I had to give up.

Sari Hukka, Ursa (Itä-Suomi)

Last night it felt really hard to go on a shooting trip, but when pictures of the evening's northern lights started to appear on the Northern Lights fb page, I had to gather the shooting equipment and go on a trip :) My intention was to go to the beach, The clock showed half past ten and the northern lights were clearly visible in the sky. There were quite a lot of clouds, though they were about to leave. I was already leaving home at 11pm when a decent light show started appearing in the sky!

From eight in the evening I happened to notice that a photographer buddy had updated the northern lights to be visible on fb. Camera raised, overalls around the neck and out. After all, bright green was visible from the crack of the clouds. In the meantime, I then had to perform a small transportation operation, but when I got home, the briskly moving lights were already visible in the clearer sky. New try. then I spotted something red in the pictures taken in the direction of the Milky Way, I assume the SAR arc. All in all, it looks like you're coming.

Half-sky auroras

4.11.2018 at 18.31 - 22.30 - Laitila (IV)
Pirjo Koski, Tampereen Ursa

I was thinking of getting started on time and the expenditure leg was tickled comfortably already in the afternoon. The repo values looked so bad that ... Already in the backyard, when I started the car, Helloween’s song “i want out” exploded from the kayaks. Well even, reflecting the very recent situation, just over three weeks sick was finally — or well, so far behind. When I got to the field, I was already greeted by a very brisk arc. I waited for a while and the set didn't just leave. Arc yes, that is, all the time, but… Then there was a brief brisk and flop, back to a calm arc. I hope...

The first own observation about the SAR arc. The horizontal image was taken earlier when there was also a green arc under that SAR which is also visible in that Panorama. Came with it but vanished in vain as a result of too much enthusiasm. A portrait taken a little later from which that green has already disappeared. I still have to thank Facebook's great Northern Lights Makers group. Without it, I wouldn’t have figured out turning the front direction all the way around without it. Add these nights! #sarg

When I left Vallila, I checked the Kilpisjärvi camera, it rumbled in white and I took a hand-picked dog on 21.24. There was indeed greenery above the roofs. Poor brightness stood out even visually. I took the first picture at 21.35 on Nokiankuja. I then moved to a relatively dark place in North Hague on the rock of Orapihlajatie. A dim arch roared in the sky. I also tried to sift through Sary Samyang from east to west and to zenith, but it seems to sink into light pollution in the city. Red parts related to arcs and radii are usually not captured at these observation sites. At 22.15 the arc ca...

The culmination of a great Northern Lights evening. Impressive, high-reaching rays danced across the width of the northern sky. Luckily we had to go to the edge of the field :)
