The surface curves were quite strong on the surface of the snow. I quickly took a few pictures and a close-up of the snow surface. My first observation of this form.

Hanki sparkled here and there beautifully in the car's lights, unfortunately only the smooth surfaces were a bit on the cards. The fields didn't really have a matchy frosting either, when most of the snow fell before Christmas, and the new snow wasn't enough to cover the unevenness. In the parking area, modest surface solar arcs then emerged from the area of small untouched snow, when it was first determined that the surface was promisingly rough. With the wider beam of the headlamp, this stood out better than with the narrow beam of the torch, even though the light output was less...

The surface solar arc surprised by freezing in the shelters of the marina. The angle of the phenomenon is quite narrow, you wouldn't need to be much higher than the sun to reach out to become a Bottlinger. The moon phase is too weak to attempt it at night. I was equipped with my phone, I clicked pictures and quickly stacked 16 of them by hand. The first is the maximum stack, the second is the average stack. Thirdly, a single image which is, as it should be, significantly worse than the visual impression. Keli was perhaps not quite an archetype. In the morning there was a moderate wind acco...

The new halo year started nicely in the spirit of surface fish. In the field opening, the flickers of the surface of the stump looked completely random, but then I happened to walk the road at the edge of the forest and noticed very clear 22 and 46 degree tires right at the edge of the field. They stood out at a distance of only 10–20 m from the high edge trees of the field. The shooting was then done from a good leg workout, as the halos got the best pictures when you squatted as close as possible to the surface of the hoe. I ended up taking always 2 shots in one squat, so consecutive shots w...

Another surface solar arc day. In the first figure, 14 squares in the maximum stack. This is depicted in the Jokkavaara pits with a small plate. Almost completely one-sided. When viewed with the eye, the solar arc crystals all pointed in one direction (I took pictures on my cell phone, but they didn’t really become valid). Another picture in Saarenkylä on the Kemijoki river in the same place as the previous day . In both pictures, ice mist, those halos become their own observation as long as they have time to get here. The first image is stacked on the Halostack, aligning the horizons. The sec...

Here is the surface solar arch that finally came to Rovaniemi on February 8. Although it had been cold and windy for several days, the seams had always gone so far that at least light frosty snow had come at some point at night. But the night before Day 8 was snowless and clear. 1. Single image 2. Max stack of 244 squares 3. previous little usmilla 4. 2. with saturation 5. The average stack of 244 squares The maximum stacks are quite interesting. They reveal how bright glints, which I considered random glints, are not random at all, but are missing from the surface of the surface solar arc. An...

As the frost period turned towards the end, a one-sided surface arc came off again. This time most clearly with such a small flat patch, where the very modest mutual case came off when they were first used. Stacked (28 images, Figures 1 and 2) bounces clearly, much more modest in individual frames (Figure 3). However, it was easily distinguishable as a visual. Those crystals had to be described at the same time, but the distances were at home despite the fantasies. The next day you were on your way, but the arches no longer stood out. However, I took close-up pictures in which the blade-like t...

In terms of surface halves, it became quieter after previous crystals of surface solar arcs had received an opaque frosting after the first observation. However, on Thursday, checking the situation from the surface of the hang, he took another curved eye. At the tips of the crystal clusters, a new brighter growth was noticeable, and through that light also passed through. What was strange about this case was that the brightness of the observation was practically distinguished only when viewed from the sun on the right side of the surface of the hang. This view was repeated no matter where the ...

The photos were taken with a mobile phone on the ice of Lake Jeris in Lake Muonio. First there is a little processed image where the phenomenon is better seen and then the original. Illegal pictures on FB and an acquaintance contacted me and asked to put the pictures here for your information and told me that this was a phenomenon like this - which I only noticed myself when he said. I have also taken pictures of the ice of Lake Jeris on Friday and last Monday but when I compared it, indeed the halo of the sun looked quite different and in today’s pictures it was in two parts. It was about 10 ...

The surface of the hangen has been like "hair upright" for several days, there are no halo rings in that stand out. Today, a memory image of halos recorded under exactly the same type of conditions emerged from one of my hard drive's slots. After all, I had to look at the project with that eye, no very flattering views were found, only barely distinguishable stuff. At one point on the slope then, behind the sunglasses, he was already more clearly caught up in the phenomenon. I encountered a couple of little stacks from there at the extremes of the expanse. In addition, I slightly tweak the...

Last night, two types of crystal surfaces for a large window glass were created in an ice farm when the glass happened to be so tilted that new ice froze only at the bottom of the glass. The new ice was shiny and mosaic-surfaced. It shone with sub-side suns. On top of the old ice, in turn, large vague "ice spike crystals" had grown at an angle of about 45 degrees, creating surface solar arcs. The shape of the curves could not be studied in more detail on such a small surface. In the first image, the camera is mainly a fresh mosaic with its underside suns, in the second and triple images the gl...

This post will continue the January 10 surface halo observation . The first image is the maximum stack of 55 frames, the second is the average stack with 50 additional images. All 105 images were taken at 1028-1044 with the sun at 3.0-3.9 degrees. The maximum stack shows a third, gentle-angled solar arc, similar to what was originally found in Luomanen's pictures. Stacks made with Halostack This post continues the 10 January surface halo observation. The first image is 55 frames maximum stack, second is average stack with 50 more images. The first eye sighting in the center of Siilinjärvi while working, I drove home and picked up the camera equipment and look for the best visibility for the shooting. The phenomenon lasted about an hour and a half and in the end just above it formed the colors of the rainbow that top halo.

I noticed in the morning sun left. the side sun and I walked to an open place to look at the whole. Even the right side sun was visible. Then appeared the 22nd upside down and for a moment zyk. I got excited and drove to a higher lookout point if something new to see appeared, even in Himos when it was snowing. The lower clouds were faster. The whole set was lost.

In the evening, I did a simulation of a surface solar arc at the height of a 50-degree light source, making it such a Bottlinger ring around a lower solar point, and left shortly before midnight on ice where the surface solar arc had been visible during the day. The phenomenon was immediately recognizable when I stepped on the velvety surface. The spot of the underside of the crystal light is surrounded by a donut ring of crystal light. Visually, this was more impressive than the picture. The fewer crystals there are, the weaker the impression created by the image in relation to the visual per...

Here's a quick match from yesterday. The first is a single image of the velvety surface in front of a lake shore reed. The jaws waved open as I saw these two surface solar arcs. On the side there is an interesting piece of 46 tires but not 22 rings as Martikainen had seen the day before (although later on another velvet surface in a similar play I also saw 22 tires sparkle under the sun. The second image is from a mosaic surface. It has sub-suns in the "sky" of the opposite. These were only visible in one place right by the shore on the corner of the lake where I operated. Their brightest ...

I only found surface solar arcs from the surface halves of the day before at home, so in the morning I had to navigate back to the same place. However, all crystal surfaces had become different during the day when the temperature was approaching zero. Fortunately, the surface solar arcs were still in place and even clearer (main image). The 46 ° ring also separated relatively well (Fig. 2, between the microscope and the camera). Marko Riikonen called and said that he had observed a dim unknown arc in the smaller crystals at an angle of about 45 ° to the lower sun. It also stood out at my obser...

Here’s a summary of the more common halos of last Thursday morning’s surface halo party. The unknown white arcs that appeared at the same site and the spectrum flickering in the nadir are presented in observation 87312. During the warm period, the water and sludge melted on the ice had re-frozen and formed two types of crystal substrates. Near the shore, there was fine snow on the older ice, the crystals that grew on the surface of which had a well-stretched low-lying lower sun and a 46 ° ring. Instead, the 22 ° ring was completely missing. I also found surface solar arcs in the pictures in th...

Thanks to Mirko Lahtinen's surface solar arc observation, the observer had to be acquired more carefully than usual. Thanks to the ex-tempore holiday, it was usually possible. Admittedly, only in the afternoon. On the inspection trip, I could see a glimpse of one of the field openings from the "bifurcated sun bridge." After the inspection, I was about to apply for the ice of the lake because of the wider opening, but I stated that I would no longer have time when the Sun was already approaching the treetops. I stopped at a field opening where a weak "upside-down V" had been seen, and perha...

Let’s hit a halo shape I haven’t noticed before. I remembered having seen such a phenomenon in Starry at some point and now I saw it myself. Without the Star of Heaven, I would not have even recognized or realized that it was a halo. I watched for a while to see if it was right for the surface of the snow to come from the sun with two spots instead of the normal one. Yes but - that's right; Surface solar arches! The new year of observation 2019 started quite beautifully! Olympus conjured a little more light balls into the last image. :)

Even though I knew from the call I was that the cannons were not on, I still decided to check. Apparently there was nothing better to do. In the parking lot, I found the car in a very rough icing on the outward-laying crystal wings. I glanced around me. On the side, there was a car in the most suitable place in terms of lights, which also grew abundant crystal grass. And on its roof, as expected, a piece of the fork of a surface solar arc was visible. I went for a ride and went to different openings - lakes, fields, wastelands - but nowhere was there a similar crystal and no phenomenon was see...

in the morning I went out with the camera due to the sunrise to see if anything could be seen. I didn't see anything miraculous, so I was leaving the place, but then I happened to look at the surface that there were a lot of vertical ice crystals, and then it became a doubt about the surface solar arc. the ice crystal image and those where the sunlight is lighter were taken shortly after 11 p.m. pictures in chronological order

Today, the surface solar arc was similar to yesterday. I now took close-ups in the direction of the sun and these show in more detail the light causing the phenomenon coming through the crystals. In one close-up where the solar arc is less obvious, I marked its lines with lines.

Related to Riikonen's surface halo observation a little earlier in the day. Here are these same "surface solar arcs" on the Nallikari breakwater that Luomanen once described. Unlike in Riga, the surface halves were bad and one-sided. The right was much clearer. This is probably due to the worse conditions on the seafront. The arches were one-sided even so that the left arc appears to be steeper than the right-hand one. In the second figure, this skew is indicated by lines. However, the angle between the arcs is approximately the 40 ° which the angle between these arcs has so far been found...

The Luomanen snow surface solar arch on the top level of OYSs car park. I arrived at the porcelain store as an elephant, ruining my footprints before noticing the phenomenon of the slight pristine snow surface that was on the roof. Elsewhere outside, the phenomenon was noticeable, with fewer open spaces. I watched and photographed the crystals as well. The most obvious were the larger, larger blades that were almost vertical. With a lower light source, these should become an almost horizontal solar arc. Whichever caused this, I didn't get to the point. The first of the crystal images is di...

UPDATE: 12/8/2012 New simulations: According to a new frame-to-frame simulation, I added to the images: the last and the second last image. More pictures: http://jari.pic.fi/kuvat/Atmospheric+phenomena+and+sky/Atmospheric+halos/2012_02_27+Surface+halo+in+oriented+dendrite+growth/ This was best simulated using two populations: more vertical and more crystals tilted against the ground. In this picture, those two groups stand out well: http://jari.pic.fi/kuvat/Atmospheric+phenomena+and+sky/Atmospheric+halos/2012_02_27+Surface+halo+in+oriented+dendrite+growth/_MG_1628_crop.jpg In general, in those...
