A fireball in a twilight sky

18.8.2019 at 21.16 - Joensuu (IV)

The fireball looked like a burning volleyball. From the big one that stood out round rock, surrounded by a green light in front of the fireball and a more yellowish one behind the ball. The firecracker was twice as long as the fireball was in diameter. The weather was blurring, but somewhat bright. The flight path and the size of the fireball showed that the ball could have dropped into the Pärnävaara region of Liperi. I didn't hear the sound though. In addition to me, two people were seeing the sightings. The fireball disappeared behind a pine tree 100 meters away. I have never seen a fir...

A fireball at night, brighter than a full moon

18.8.2019 at 21.16 - Hankasalmi, Murtoinen (V)
Arto Oksanen, Jyväskylän Sirius

Fireball in the picture of Hankasalmi Observatory allsky camera. Fortunately, 5 ms of exposure has been recorded even though the camera shoots in the twilight only every minute. There are no stars in the picture and their marked location is a bit wrong, as the orientation of the camera has been changed slightly more to the north. Another image taken the same night has stars for positioning.
