Active aurora band

1.9.2019 at 23.44 - 01.40 - Kajaani (III)
Taisto Komulainen

Well then it's the northern lights season opened at the height of Kajaani I photographed fires at first in the Sotkamo area on the shores of Lake Nuasjärvi then the fires were dim, from there I hurried 25 kilometers to the end of Kajaani on the shores of Lake Nuasjärvi.

Quiet aurora arc

1.9.2019 at 23.40 - 23.55 - Järvenpää (II)
Toni Veikkolainen, Keski-Uudenmaan Altair

After the fog shot, I decided to see if the final touch of the solar storm would still be visible as northern lights in the sky. Only a faint green arc was visible to the naked eye. The reddish hue of the gauze above it only appeared in the picture.

Vanha havainto arkistosta, Mahdollinen SAR ensimmäisessä kuvassa. Kyseisenä yönä revontulien varsinainen syttyminen odotutti pitkään hehkuen pohjoistaivaalla useita tunteja. Lopullinen purkaantuminen tapahtui vasta kolmen aikoihin aamuyöllä. Ilmahehku oli voimakasta.

Auroras seen through breaks in the clouds

Aino Piirainen

Kp indices promised more than the northern lights then showed. At times, even Korona appeared dim, but it was still quite faint at this point in the fall.

Quiet aurora band

1.9.2019 at 23.30 - 23.59 - Kangasala, Sahalahti
Jorma Mäntylä

The indices looked like A36 / K5, so I decided to try repos today as well. The result was last night's version. To the north was a faint light arch and momentary dim rays. The camera brought out the colors.

Arja Siikström, Sisä-Savon Ursa

The Northern Lights season was to open alongside the Venetians over the weekend of August 31-September 1. The repos of the night between Sun-Ma were a little more spectacular than the night before. Loons and swans shouted on the lake and the whey of the wound leaves and the cries of cucumbers in the nearby fields complemented the feeling of autumn. In addition to the aurora borealis and the calm arc, faint rays were sometimes visible.

Active aurora band

1.9.2019 at 23.15 - 23.59 - Siilinjärvi (III)

On a warm September night, could there be a more comfortable time watching the repos dance on the sky deck? Admittedly, the tangent to the V-curve bounced quickly when I noticed that the camera had stopped shooting in the middle of everything, because I had forgotten to put it on an external power source. The fires with the best activity were just after filming the timelapse - of course. Timelape video: https://youtu.be/fp8JGwDnZqA

Northern lights forecasts promised good. In addition, the weather was clear, warm. At 22:40 nothing appears in the test image, ten minutes later a dim arc of northern lights appears to the north. A few beams that can be seen. The camera saw better. When none of the two of them showed up, I stopped the passport at 11:30 p.m.

Quiet aurora band

1.9.2019 at 22.55 - 02.00 - Akaa (II)
Markku Ruonala

The night was largely a version of the previous one: Modest reposting on the shallow northern horizon, momentary brightening in the rays. I wonder if the brightness in the "wrong" direction of the second image is northern lights or caused by glow in the air.

Half-sky auroras

1.9.2019 at 22.55 - 00.05 - Rovaniemi (IV)
Sari Pietikäinen, Corona Borealis, Rovaniemi

Rovaniemi was pretty cloudy, and I didn’t think I could find northern lights anywhere, even though they were very promised. Well, after shaving the clouds, if at all, I found a clear sky in Lake Olkkajärvi and you will already be wandering there when I got to the scene. The first of these pictures was taken on 23.08, I found the corona from "film" on 23.10 and the last picture was taken on 23.53. I photographed it for another ten minutes until I decided to leave the mössörepos alone and go to sleep. So the fires didn’t really look like the gray-green heat to the naked eye, and at some point th...

Half-sky auroras

1.9.2019 at 22.45 - 00.20 - Kuusamo, Käylä (IV)
Jani Päiväniemi, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

Conditions were really good for repo use, warm 14 and warm wind. The lights began to appear dimly at 10.45pm when delicate arches passed through the zenith to the east, even on the south side the arch was visible. The screen never brightened. The Milky Way could not be photographed when the fires were in front of it almost all the time. There was also a small corona company, but it was not enough. I followed half to one and had to go to sleep because of the early get up.

Significantly better result than the night before, although no storm occurred. Good company both. The air was really nice, warm and calm. What were those midnight coffees on the beach to enjoy.

Active aurora band

1.9.2019 at 22.12 - 04.20 - Porvoo, Sondby (III)
Jorma Koski, Ursa (Helsinki)

Throughout the night, an active arc of northern lights was visible at the bottom north. The sky was clear and cloudless. I finally adjusted the camera settings for dim northern lights and a few brightnesses grabbed the cell. The best moments were from 2:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. However, here in the southernmost part of Finland, great splendor has not yet been seen.

Aurora rays

1.9.2019 at 03.05 - 04.10 - Kangasala (II)
Markku Lintinen, Tampereen Ursa

The evening and early night, adjusting Tampere's re-installed camera, looked just like a rather dim northern light belt, which eventually faded away. In the recordings of the morning, a better show promised by the forecast was found in Kangasala, which had time to come before the sky brightened. A bright green belt shone on the tree line and purple rays wandered from west to east.

Until midnight there were clouds, and the repos did not stand out like a dim greenish arc in the north. At three o'clock in the morning, a little brighter was visible for a while.
