Dim night shining clouds

10.7.2018 at 23.55 - 00.30 - Mikkeli (II)
Sami Jumppanen, Mikkelin Ursa

When I stopped for night biking, I saw illuminated night clouds at 11:55 pm, to remember for the first time this year. Weak. At the end of the run, I watched the scenery and photographed on my cell phone at 0:30. The NLC was so distinctive that the phone recorded something. You can tick something about the shapes, a bit vague was in such a limited view. I didn’t watch them disappear, but at 1:20 at least nothing was visible.

Several halo forms

27.9.2017 at 16.53 - Mikkeli (II)
Sami Jumppanen, Mikkelin Ursa

Once the fog has dissipated, we inspect the halos. On the way home, the side sun in a small cloud west after a while and the arc of the zenith environment. A nice stop for mountain biking.

Milky way

28.8.2017 at 23.00 - Mikkeli
Sami Jumppanen, Mikkelin Ursa

For a long time stacking exposures. Milky Way, from the direction of the North American Nebula (NGC 7000) with a 50 mm lens. When there is some kind of weather, your own yard is a good place to practice. On the edges of the picture I found stars that I was also able to locate in the Stellarium. The dimmest I found a mag of 13.45, barely my record.

Active aurora band

Sami Jumppanen, Mikkelin Ursa

From clothesline to shooting trees as ever - bright northern lights! Clear and good seeing even! The clouds had suddenly receded. After all, everything looks bright after the summer, but there was really light and movement in these. The activations were short-lived, fortunately after the first wave I saw, the second one I had time to describe. I estimate there is no time to go looking for a filming location, so the backyard may be enough. I used my own buildings as backlights. After a short shooting session, I photographed the Milky Way around the zenith and the northern sky of the cucumber fr...

Clearly visible night shining clouds

28.7.2017 at 02.37 - Mikkeli (III)
Sami Jumppanen, Mikkelin Ursa

The second year illuminates the night clouds and Venus for the first time. I couldn’t control after midnight, but I happened to wake up at half past three. Jacket, shoes, camera, tripod. From the backyard, these had already been seen the night before, so now I even went to the asphalt 50 meters away. The clouds covered about the same area as the night before, from northwest to northeast, though the sun was already much higher in these images and the sky was lighter.

Bright night shining clouds

27.7.2017 at 01.05 - Mikkeli (IV)
Sami Jumppanen, Mikkelin Ursa

The first of the year illuminates me, and pretty fine. Camera, tripod and shoot from the backyard. The picture is in the northeast direction where the views were best. It was smaller from the northwest.

Pearl clouds

31.12.2016 at 16.30 - Mikkeli (IV)
Sami Jumppanen, Mikkelin Ursa

Venus, Moon and Pearls. Great colors, the first time I remember seeing! At least the first one I've photographed. In this hurry, just a foggy cell phone rap. Twenty minutes earlier, I wisely took a narrower view of the house between the houses, adding a picture later.

Other storm phenomenon

10.5.2016 at 20.00 - Mikkeli (III)
Sami Jumppanen, Mikkelin Ursa

Small and hasty mammoths of a small cloud. The first of the season though :) There were no rumbles and no lightning was found in the area.

Iridescent clouds

10.5.2016 at 19.54 - Mikkeli (II)
Sami Jumppanen, Mikkelin Ursa

Color clouds, greenish and reddish stood out, slightly weaker in the cell phone image.

Transit of mercury

9.5.2016 at 14.25 - Mikkeli (IV)
Sami Jumppanen, Mikkelin Ursa

I noticed with a small tube, shot with the phone, and with my eyes the Mercury disc was quite visible, much weaker in the cell phone picture. NOTE: Dots appear in the middle, Mercury is on the right side of the Sun's disk (at the beginning of the event, described through the stellar telescope, i.e. upside down). In terms of training, I timed the second contact at 14:14:47 (+/- 15 seconds). The small magnification did not visually give that better temporal accuracy. The thin cloudboards were reminiscent of following Jupiter's blanket, leaving one contact untimed due to the insignificant...

Half-sky auroras

9.5.2016 at 00.15 - Mikkeli (IV)
Sami Jumppanen, Mikkelin Ursa

In accordance with the terminology of storm bonga "Northern lights in the summer season". T-shirt was enough for photography! Another specialty was auto exposure, as it did well. In addition to larger arcs, very fast waves in zenith as well as bright, rapidly changing rays. Some blaze also observed. As a Korona, I would say the fire of zenith, at least half of the Korona was. The color purple also caught on to the camera's cell in zenith, I had to check the camera's white balance settings, but it didn't mess up, yes there was purple.

Planet's corona

4.4.2016 at 22.26 - Mikkeli (III)
Sami Jumppanen, Mikkelin Ursa

Happy cloud raft, and Jupiter's perimeter there - suddenly a camera with tripods! I knew the tracking platform was necessary, but it was not worth starting to tune in, the phenomenon would have passed, however. The camera did not reveal anything more than what was visible to the naked eye at the best stage, except that when viewed with the naked eye it was a little finer. The cloud raft thinned a bit as the camera arrived, so a long exposure was necessary.

Moonn kehä

23.3.2016 at 00.05 - Mikkeli (III)
Sami Jumppanen, Mikkelin Ursa

I went to the woods to take long exposures and landscape stars. The last of the evening was an image that is difficult to categorize. This could be a landscape constellation, but not many stars appear in this image. Jupiter's moons still stand out at least from the original, even though there are only 3,000x2,000 pixels in the image. Meeting the celestial bodies would otherwise be a good choice, but meeting the Moon and Jupiter was already a day earlier. I chose the perimeter of the Moon, especially because the clouds weren’t visible before, but by the time I arrived at this shooting locat...

Aktiivinen revontulivyö

3.11.2015 at 22.15 - Mikkeli (III)
Sami Jumppanen, Mikkelin Ursa

No sehän on vihreää, joten kuvaamaan.

Rauhallinen revontulikaari

Sami Jumppanen, Mikkelin Ursa

Yli puoli taivasta revontulia

7.10.2015 at 20.30 - 23.00 - Mikkeli (IV)
Sami Jumppanen, Mikkelin Ursa

29.9.2015 at 20.17 - Mikkeli (III)
Sami Jumppanen, Mikkelin Ursa
