NGC 7380

27.9.2021 at 21.00 - 22.00 - Hyvinkää (II)
Antti-Jussi Pyykkönen, Ursa (Etelä-Suomi)

I started filming Velhosumu in the fall of 2020. Filming was interrupted as the subject moved to zenith towards the end of the year. I waited impatiently for next year as the H-alpha areas were very spectacular. The result is a mosaic of two images so I got all the fog composed into the box.

NGC 7380 ja Sh2-142

19.8.2018 at 23.00 - 03.00 - Laukaa (III)
Erik Pirtala

The nights are not yet completely dark, but dark enough for narrowband shooting. The wizardry mist in Kefeus is almost in zenith at this time of year, so it was quite a nice subject to photograph. I filmed H-alpha at dusk and morning and OIII and SII channels on both sides of midnight The first image is a more visually realistic HOO palette, and the second a more artistic SHO palette.

NGC 7380 Wizard Nebula

25.7.2018 at 02.00 - 03.00 - Fregenal de la Sierra, Espanja (I)
Aarni Vuori, Kirkkonummen komeetta

My first narrowband image ever. At the same time, the use of the Hubble Palette became familiar.

NGC 7380

10.4.2018 at 23.15 - 03.45 - Mäntsälä, Ohkola (III)
Teppo Laitinen, Keski-Uudenmaan Altair

I woke up to the end of the dark nights and something had to be filmed. This time I wanted to try to photograph the wizard fog and it was suitably the least light polluted part of the sky. The picture shows the worst stars in the edge area.

NGC 7380

31.10.2017 at 19.00 - 22.00 - Kirkkonummi (IV)
Samuli Vuorinen, Kirkkonummen komeetta

The Komakallio Observatory remote control project has finally reached the point where filming has been possible. Here is the first star image taken from Komakallio completely remotely. Pictured is the open set of NGC 7380, and the surrounding gas and dust cloud. This entity is also called Wizard Nebula. The distance to the fog is about 7,200 light-years. The fog appears in the sky about the size of a full moon!

NGC 7380

7.12.2015 at 22.30 - Kauniainen (III)
Olli Arkko, Pollux, Aalto-yliopisto

Despite the wind, I had to try shooting. Quite a few of the exposures ended up being successful and the focus was not right. However, I got a picture of this item.

NGC 7380 Velhosumu

9.10.2015 at 00.10 - Oulu (I)
Jaakko Asikainen, Oulun Arktos

In the wood of a fist on the northern lights, I sifted my tube into the Wizarding Mist of Cepheus. The bright weather that lasted all week and the simultaneous flu started to take its toll, and when I noticed the poor collimation result, there was no more energy to adjust. During the reading, I got the situation mostly corrected. More information:

NGC 7380

13.3.2015 at 03.23 - 04.12 - Tampere (III)
Jouni Raunio, Tampereen Ursa

After the exo observation of the evening, there was still time to measure and test the narrowband filters.

NGC 7380

17.9.2014 at 21.07 - 05.20 - Tampere (III)
Jouni Raunio, Tampereen Ursa

The Wizard Nebula, or Wizardry Nebula, is at this time of year very dense, almost in zenith to the best time of observation. The observation time of 21-05 was longer than the imaging time because part of the time I used to accurately measure the focus offsets of the filters from the morning when the temperature remained constant for a couple of hours. NGC 7380, Sh 2-142

14.9.2014 at 04.00 - Kankaanpää
Tero Hirvikoski, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

The picture shows the open constellation NGC 7380 visible in the direction of Cepheus around it, the emission nebula known as the Wizard Nebula, Sh2-142. The Wolf-Rayet star in the crowd has created a pale bubble visible in the fog around it with its strong stellar wind.

NGC 7380

17.1.2014 at 17.30 - 21.00 - Tampere (III)
Jouni Raunio, Tampereen Ursa

NGC 7380 (the Wizard Nebula) in Cepheus at a distance of 8,000 light-years ( wiki ). Contains both the open constellation and the nebula from which the stars are formed. The age of a number of stars is estimated to be only four million years. The severe frost in itself did not interfere with the shooting for several hours, but the Moon and ice mist with the city lights all the more. Therefore, even this image is through a narrowband H-alpha filter. Picture .
