Sh2-114

3.10.2021 at 20.00 - 23.59 - Kangaslampi (I)
Erik Pirtala, Warkauden Kassiopeia

Sh2-114 on lentävää lohikäärmettä muistuttava himmeä emissiosumu Joutsenen tähdistön laitamilla.

Samuli Vuorinen, Kirkkonummen komeetta

I photographed this item in the Sharpless catalog on two nights, September 14th and 18th. On both nights, the exposure accumulated for 5 hours, for a total of 10 hours. At first, the subject looked pretty modest, but there was a lot of interesting things around when I was able to shed enough light.

Sh2-114 Dragon Nebula is a very opaque supernova remnant emission mist in Swan. The intention was to test whether it could be seen at all with a SLR camera, and after all, it can be seen with just 15 minutes of lights. My previous CCD experiments did not bring out the subject better, so I would probably need a darker observation site as well. Astrobin: https://www.astrobin.com/366058/

SH2-114

2.12.2017 at 14.55 - Hyvinkää (I)
Timo Inkinen, Ursa (Etelä-Suomi)

I photographed this dim Ha-fog from the constellation of Swan on three nights at the turn of October-November. At the time of filming (19.10./31.10./1.11.2017) there was poor transparency on the first night, more than half a moon in the next two, so I only shot RGB channels first and finally Ha channel on moonlit night. The goal was to capture luminance channel exposures later after the Moon left the sky. This remained a dream when there has been a steady cloudy weather since the beginning of November. So here is a HaRGB image only half of the exposure I thought I would use for this subject (6...

Sh2-114

4.11.2015 at 20.00 - Oulu (V)
Jukka-Pekka Metsavainio

The latest image of Oulu shows the Sharpless object number 114, it is also known as the Flying Dragon. This is a dim and rarely described target on the east side of the Swan gas clouds. This fall, I have rarely or not at all focused on the objects described on the edges of the Swan constellation. The radiant pressure and strong magnetic fields of nearby massive stars are suspected to cause the strange-looking structure of the nebula. Also shown is bipolar planetary nebula Lan 384 (Kn 26) More pictures and information on the blog: http://www.astroanarchy.blogspot.fi/2015/11/sharpless-114-sh2-11...
