Moon

18.4.2021 at 20.36 - Helsinki (III)
Pertti Ankkuri, Ursa (Helsinki)

The clear and serene weather enticed us to take a series of photos of our traveler. A set of nine images processed with PIPP and Autostakkert programs.

Week 8 and Pallas. This time the full moon happened sadly for the same week. However, I decided to take a look at the night landscapes and did not have to be disappointed, they were great even in the moonlight. I stole from the hotel to the nearby Kyrö reindeer herders' cabin and put the camera on and it was like that.

Milky way

25.9.2020 at 21.30 - 21.58 - Rovaniemi, Meltaus (IV)
Pertti Ankkuri, Ursa (Helsinki)

I finally got to take a long planned shooting trip to Lapland. Thanks to the favorable conditions (no moonlight, no clouds and still plus degrees) I was able to take a series of pictures (30 light, 10 dark, 8 bias) from the Milky Way. More came to be described but here I saw it at first. I used a Sequator for stacking.

The last warm (and dry) nights of late summer attracted me so much that I gathered the shooting equipment with me and headed to Särkkäniemi in Uuosela, Vuosaari. There was already enough moisture in the air that the lights of the nearby harbor and Santahamina colored the sky visually yellowish, so expectations were not high. I took 30 pictures, 20 darkks and 10 bias pictures and stacked them with Sequator. In addition, I edited the final image with RawTherapee. The end result is not very natural, but it is quite valid given the circumstances. So did Jupiter and Saturn in the pictures. I includ...

ISS

18.7.2020 at 01.21 - Orivesi (III)
Pertti Ankkuri, Ursa (Helsinki)

Saturn and Jupiter were witnessing the "overflight" of the ISS. The picture is compiled from more than twenty pictures taken at 8s exposure from the beak of the cottage pier. For this reason, the flight of the ISS is not completely smooth.

Active aurora band

17.2.2020 at 22.57 - 23.30 - Kittilä (III)
Pertti Ankkuri, Ursa (Helsinki)

I waded the northern lights taken from my shooting trip last winter (before this coronary hassle) and found them. Here are few.

Quiet aurora band

17.2.2020 at 22.30 - Muonio (II)
Pertti Ankkuri, Ursa (Helsinki)

A moment before the pandemic worsened, we had time to spend our winter holidays in Pallas in February 2020. Here is one memory of that trip. The image is a combination of two images at a time when the northern lights were calmly stationary.

Quiet aurora arc

We spent the 8th week of skiing in Pallas. The weather was favorable and the sky remained clear day and night throughout the week. The idea was to photograph the streaks and I had already made a shooting plan accordingly. Unfortunately, it was at that time that the best celestial raids were underway. However, I followed the previous plan to get even something sensible described. For this reason, my streak image is disproportionately green winning but I still think it’s pretty successful. In the following nights, it was quite calm and I described the scenery. Luckily, I got one more picture of ...

Moon

10.7.2017 at 23.13 - Vantaa (IV)
Pertti Ankkuri

When I visited 9.7. On the Vuosaari filling hill, also known as Vuosaari Peak, I noticed how great the view was from the direction of the harbor and the sea. Since it was full moon time at the same time, I could do nothing but tread on the spot the next night and capture that "blue moment" and the moon rising from the sea.

A heavy snow area surrounds Hotel Pallas, thus creating fine light poles in an otherwise completely dark mountain landscape.

20.2.2017 at 20.21 - 20.44 - Kittilä (II)
Pertti Ankkuri

I browsed through my older shots and found the next photo collage from 2017. The location is the widening on Pallaksentie which opened up to a wide, gently descending panoramic view of the Pallas. From the left, Pyhäkuru, Lehmäkero, Jäkäläkero, Saivokero and Vuontiskero. Then in the evening I parked my car for widening and not for a while when a powerful northern light furnace appeared in the sky which soon then turned into a decent roar, illuminating the landscape with its green glow at its best. Strong variations in their brightness made it difficult to shoot. For this reason, some of the im...

Moon

Pertti Ankkuri

After shooting for a couple of hours, I took a few more individual pictures of the Moon on a spruce branch of which this was most successful.
