LBN 569: Himmeä ja harvoin kuvattu pimeä sumu Kefeuksessa. Käytin tähän kohteeseen lähes kaikki kuuttomat kirkkaat yöt viimeisen kolmen kuukauden ajalta keräten tähän yhteensä 29 tuntia valotusta. Käsitteleminen oli tosi vaikeaa näin himmeän kohteen kanssa. Kuvauslaitteiston tiedot:

Lokakuu on ollut varsin surkea havaintokelien osalta. Kuun ihan ensimmäisinä päivinä aloitettu projekti tuli maaliin viime yönä, kun Itä-Suomeenkiin saatiin parin tunnin kirkas pätkä. Kuvasin tämän kohteen 17,2 -tuntisena projektina . Sumu on kapeakaistassa HOO -paletissa, ja tähän on löyty RGB -tähdet päälle. Todella himmeä ja haastava kohde. Tässä meni aikansa että löysi edes sinne päin toimivan määrän ja maskauksen kohinanpoistolle. Herkästi näissä himmeissä siloittelee liikaa ja tekee lopputuloksesta liian muovisen. Sh2-114 on lentävää lohikäärmettä muistuttava himmeä emissiosumu Joutsenen tähdistön laitamilla. Kuvasin kohteeseen H-alfaa ja S-II -kanavaa tavoitteena saada jonkunlainen kultainen lohikäärme. O-III -kanavaa en tällä kertaa kuvannut, sillä se on todella, todella himmeä tässä. Käsitteleminen oli aika vaikeaa, sillä näissä on niin tottunut siihen että sininen tasapainottaa näitä lämpimiä keltaisen ja oranssin sävyjä. Tällainen tästä yritelmästä nyt kuitenkin tuli. NGC 6960

Läntinen harsosumu NGC 6960 Hubble -paletissa. Kovalevyltä löytyi tästä yhteensä 7 tuntia kuvadataa vuodelta 2019 (silloin kuvasin happea ja vetyä). Nyt kuvasin lisää H alfaa, rikkikanavan ja RGB tähdet. Loppukuvassa on valotusaikaa 14,5 tuntia.  Tekniset tiedot ja täysi kuva:

I finished the tulip mist I had long and earnestly exposed. Since the beginning of September, I have taken advantage of twilight and full moon hours (even a little dark) for 15.5 hours. H-alpha came by far the most (7.7) hours. Oxygen and sulfur channels remained weaker. The stars are again described separately with RGB filters. Andromeda had to return again. The galaxy wouldn’t have fit my image field completely, so I made a two-panel mosaic. I collected a total of 8.5 hours of exposure on both panels with LRGB exposure times of 2.5: 2: 2: 2. The picture therefore shows a total of 17 hours of exposure in 2min clips. Fortunately, I was able to capture every partial exposure of the subject from a completely moonless and dark sky, and yes it was noticed by the quality of the data. I was surprised at how much dim dullness came out of that. Information on the stock can be found on the astrobin:

Getting the opening image of the season ready is always but such an inexplicably awesome feeling. Especially when with technical worries and clouds you have first got wrestling until you get bored. You can rarely see images of these gauze in the Hubble Palette. Probably because this is such an insanely beautiful object in natural colors. As the final project of the season, I continued last season’s Pelican Fog project by doubling the amount of data. Originally there was 10.5 hours of data and now I shot just under 10h more. H: 42 * 5min + 18 * 6min = 5.3h S: 36 * 5min + 30x6min = 6.0h O: 44 * 5min + 36 * 6min = 7.4h RGB: 3x15 * 2min = 1.5h

As the last major project of the spring, I photographed the supernova remnant W63, Cygnus Shell, located in the northeastern part of the Swan. I photographed the object as a two-panel mosaic in the SHO + RGB color palette. Initially, I was doing a 20-hour project, but when I realized how dim especially the oxygen backbone of the supernova residue itself was, it became an order of magnitude bigger than the project. I photographed this dim planetary in Gemini in collaboration with Canadian Tudor Chibacu. He described 10 hours of H-alpha and 2 hours of RGB light here. Personally, I filmed for 5 hours on both the O-III and S-II channels. A total of 22 hours of exposure was accumulated in the image. This processing is your own handwriting. I handled the traditional style with starless narrowband channels on the Hubble palette and RGB star mix on. NGC 7023 ja vdB 141

A mosaic of two panels from two beautiful objects of Kefeus. On the left is the Irissumu NGC 7023, which I photographed in December 2020 with 23 hours of light. On the right is the Ghost Nebula of Kefe vdB 141, which I now photographed in March with a 15-hour exposure. So this mosaic has a total of 38 hours of exposure! In addition to these two mists, there are several smaller spectacular dark fog structures in the image field. The fog pillars above the ghost are my own favorite. A spectacular but surprisingly difficult destination! I’ve always admired the pictures taken of this and now I wanted to finally try this. Dark mists are really hard to deal with (at least for me) and this was no exception. For the most part, though, I’m pretty happy with that, the stars stayed a little soft and I didn’t get them to look naturally sharper. I filmed this for 15 hours last week. You are less likely to see images taken in the SHO palette from this fog. Had to try, though. I described 5 hours of H-alpha, 4 hours of O-III, 3 hours of S-II, and one hour of RGB. So a total of 13 hours. This time I took all the RGB channels: not just the stars. It feels like I got a little richer stars with this style. Plus, that’s how I got broadband fog (affected by the reflection fog) included in that mid-range. The handling was terribly difficult because that O-III is so extensive and opaque. The project, which was unfinished in the spring of 2020, finally came to an end when I was finally able to collect the 20 hours of exposure I was aiming for. The galaxy triad came out well in such a long exposure. I also got a little visible tide tail of NGC 3628. Blood pulled once more to this beautiful mist. I started the project on December 8, filming 5 hours of O-III channel. I got H-alpha clenched between the clouds on clear nights in early January and the rest now in early February. H-alpha came in a total of 5.2 hours. Last night I got the long awaited decision for the project when I managed to shoot 3 hours for an S-II channel and an hour for RGB stars. Narrow bands 6min in lengths and RGB 2min. Pacman originally became a "stuffing project" for the moon, so only a narrowband can be reasonably described. However, I got so excited about this subject that I photographed it quite properly from 12.5 hours of moonless skies. A couple of nights last night in Eastern Finland we got some nice clear weather, so I got to finish this. The fog is depicted in the SHO palette and the stars in RGB. Difficult target. There is nothing else to say. The reading was not easy, but something had to be tried. I shot a total of 16.5h of narrowband and an hour of RGB for the stars. Sh2-224 is a very dim supernova remnant in the Constellation of the Driver
