Active aurora band

1.1.2022 at 19.58 - Ulvila (III)
Vesa Puistovaara, Porin Karhunvartijat

The third newcomer to the Bear Camera project briefly noticed an activated arc of northern lights. The camera had only been on the roof of the observatory for about an hour. Using the existing equipment, we came up with a new utility for this camera (Imaging Source DBK 41AU02. AS) as a northern lights camera ... "low-cost", ie adding a small budget to the project. ... and right after the findings, the report came with a new USB extension cord that would work. So it's that cheap idea again ... so the video connection was cut off for a very short time :)

Shickard, Phocylides, Nasmyth

16.12.2021 at 20.45 - Ulvila (IV)
Vesa Puistovaara, Porin Karhunvartijat

Perhaps a slightly more unusual observation model for presenting the details of the lunar surface. A certain artist perspective, but the objects themselves are quite spectacular. The late phase of the moon, and the challenges it poses in getting certain traits better reflected in a certain of its own annoyances - but there is much to offer! Schikard - toe cap; name after Wilhelm Schickard, a 17th-century mathematician and astronomer Phocylides - shoe heel; also named after a 17th century astronomer (Johannes Phocylides Holwarda) .. a rather short 33-year life - a pioneer, perhaps ... Nasmyth -...

IRIDIUM 107

1.12.2021 at 07.02 - Ulvila
Vesa Puistovaara, Porin Karhunvartijat

100 satellites - one of them I finally completed my project for the past year (2021). The main idea of the whole thing was mainly to monitor the operation of the Bear Camera, but also to detect 100 streaks left by the ERI satellites in the images taken by the camera. Precipitation observation , IRIDIUM 107, part of the 'Iridium NEXT' generation. The new Iridium is ultimately a rather modest glimpse into the starry sky observers, compared to previous Iridium satellites. (The remaining 99 satellite observations can still be seen here from the moment of publication: www.karhunvartijat.fi/...

The great quartet of the moon, the "Daltons," photographed during a rather restless seeing. There was little opportunity to immortalize the details with the help of 2x barlow, but a brief acquaintance with the origin of the names of the craters and the scientists of their time was an even more detailed and rewarding experience! The name for this moment in the picture came to my mind, but hardly any of these guys were worse than myself ...

Moon

18.11.2021 at 21.00 - Pori
Vesa Puistovaara, Porin Karhunvartijat

Visual observation & drawing of (almost) a full moon. 'Yard sofa' means a tekele sketched during a short respite. The twigs of the trees are commendably up front, but it doesn’t really hurt the viewing experience. Among all the other hustle and bustle, it was a fun moment to try something new ... so for myself.

Moon

14.11.2021 at 17.15 - 17.45 - Ulvila (IV)
Vesa Puistovaara, Porin Karhunvartijat

A moment at the Ulvila observatory, spending my time in meaningful conditions. The Finnish Meteorological Institute appeared to be 9/8 cloudy at the time of the observation, ie "cloud cover cannot be determined due to dense fog or heavy snowfall, for example". Well, what about being at that altitude and in my mind when shooting the Moon: D Image 2 is mainly a landscape image to verify that weather forecasts also have their sides.

Starry sky image

10.11.2021 at 20.00 - Nakkila (III)
Vesa Puistovaara, Porin Karhunvartijat

Nice observation weather had been promised, and it was also available in the late evening of November 10, 2021. One of the best places near Pori is Lake Leistilänjärvi , where I thought to deviate from the starry sky to admire and marvel at the telescope and camera. The first step from the car to the earth's crust turned out to be a deep puddle of water - however, the socks remained dry :) Pretty soon I noticed that the sky was full of ‘some extra light pollution’. Calling our local active member answered: Ulvila's new S-Market celebrated its opening, and there were floodlights on the ...

Telescopic comet

9.11.2021 at 00.00 - 00.10 - Ulvila (I)
Tomi Kurri, Vesa Puistovaara, Porin Karhunvartijat

The last observation of the November frost night was the comet 67 / P Churyumov-Gerasimenko. This comet, which moves through the constellation of Gemini, is the same one that ESA's Rosette probe visited in 2014. We photographed a comet at the Ulvila observatory in Pori. I managed to grab a total of 8min exposure from the comet with LRGB filters before the clouds arrived.

Primary rainbow

12.10.2021 at 17.10 - 18.10 - Ulvila
Vesa Puistovaara, Porin Karhunvartijat

The cloudy sky in October cracked so much that even the rainbow appeared on the exhibits! I also tried to compile a short, about an hour-long, timelapse video about the birth and death of the arc itself ... badly the latter, but that's how it wants to go in this life - fleeting (even great moments); A few previous observations of the 'life cycle' of the rainbow are already here in the Sky Watch, but isn't this suitable as an extension of the motley arc set? The quality of the video is not dizzying, and the Cloud Cover coming from the north can even distract from the rainbow on ...

IC 1396

3.10.2021 at 01.00 - Ulvila (III)
Vesa Puistovaara, Tomi Kurri, Porin Karhunvartijat

A piece of the most beautiful space ... small, but the most famous and described part of the object itself IC 1396. Forecasts for the weather seemed completely unworthy for most of the week, but as if by order for Saturday night, there was a fairly clear observation time! It must have been true to try to take advantage of. The evening went quite calmly, without thinking about major worries - the coffee was consumed almost in a pan and time passed surprisingly quickly. Observations were made at several sites, both at the observatory and remotely. In the "Picture of the Hour" last night's gi...

Okean-O

28.9.2021 at 20.40 - Ulvila
Vesa Puistovaara, Porin Karhunvartijat

Okay, Okean-O satellite pictured. It may be necessary to clarify this observation a little. In early 2021, I set a desire & goal for myself to recover the ‘streak’ left by 100 different satellites in the Bear Camera. However, this is the so-called allsky camera, so it is almost impossible to capture any single phenomenon or event from the images in the camera. Instead, I realized that I could try to get to know the world of satellites myself - when they are enough, almost annoyingly ... but also because they are quite visible celestial bodies. The Bongaa 100 , organized in honor of Ursa's ...

IC 405

27.9.2021 at 23.00 - 23.30 - Ulvila (III)
Vesa Puistovaara, Porin Karhunvartijat

Flaming Star Nebula , Flaming Star Nebula, IC 405. The upper clouds largely messed up my plan, so I ended up taking a small glimpse of this rather "ugly" object in the Constellation of the Driver. The runaway star AE Aurigae (pictured in the middle) illuminates the fog.

Pluto

27.9.2021 at 22.15 - Ulvila (I)
Vesa Puistovaara, Porin Karhunvartijat

My dilute but emotional gift to Ulvila Observatory from its 30-year journey. Apparently Pluto has not been observed from there before - let alone photographed ... but I had to try to get pictures of this ex-planet from there now as well. Quite streaks are the stars, and also the target itself - but recognizable nonetheless. One way or another: In this case, Stellarium served as a tool for identification, which also provides more extensive information about the situation at the time of filming ...

In the picture, the open star cluster in the direction indicated by the most spectacular gas pillar of the nebula was formed by about 2 million. years ago, and it forms new stars from the surrounding material. - (Source: Nasa - https://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap141008.html
