Halo phenomena covering the sky

3.5.2021 at 13.15 - 14.00 - Mikkeli (IV)
Aki Taavitsainen

Whether it’s a nice looking halo in the sky on a Monday afternoon. For a long time, I even had time to grab a camera, with a few pictures of that halo play.

Total lunar eclipse

27.7.2018 at 23.07 - 01.15 - Mikkeli (IV)
Aki Taavitsainen, Mikkelin Ursa

Attached are my pictures from last night of a complete lunar eclipse. The less visible half-shadow and partial phases of the beginning of the eclipse remained behind the horizon. In Mikkeli, the Moon rose from the southeast during the eclipse phase, ie at about 22.00. The initial phase was very challenging due to the clouds on the horizon and the Moon did not seem visible at first. The deepest moment of the complete lunar eclipse was at 11:22 p.m. By this time, the cloud gauze was thinning and the moon stood out a little better in the photos. At midnight, the Moon was accompanied by the red pl...

This is probably the only picture through the clouds of this Midsummer Eve fireball? A few observations have already come here to Tavaanvahti. Hopefully there will be even more observations on this case!

A fireball at night, as bright as a full moon

31.3.2018 at 21.07 - Mikkeli (V)
Aki Taavitsainen, Mikkelin Ursa

This fireball has become more of an observation for the Star of Heaven. "Appeared" from Mikkeli's western camera. Unfortunately, the light of the setting Sun meant to drown the whole fireball, but yes you can find it there. The brightness in the middle of the picture is a fireball.

A fireball at night, as bright as a cresent moon

4.2.2018 at 19.04 - Mikkeli (IV)
Aki Taavitsainen, Mikkelin Ursa

There have been several observations of this fireball in the Sky Watch. At the same time we liked the star screen and looked at the constellation of Orion in the other direction, so unfortunately this fireball was not seen live, but luckily it was recorded on a western camera. Attached is a picture.

Total lunar eclipse

31.1.2018 at 16.20 - 18.00 - Mikkeli (IV)
Aki Taavitsainen, Mikkelin Ursa

Mikkeli showed the final stages of the lunar eclipse, although the small cloudboards on the horizon slightly disturbed the observations. I got my first sight of the Moon when it was very low on the horizon among the cloud ferries at 4:20 p.m. Observation site Mikkeli Ursa Observatory. I captured the picture at 4:46 p.m., when the cloudboats fortunately gave way in front of the Moon.
