All-sky aurora

7.10.2018 at 21.00 - 23.30 - Kempele (V)
Jarmo Leskinen, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

The finest northern lights of autumn for your own place. The corona warped colorful and bright. After that, various arches along the sky and finally almost the whole sky shone green.

Active aurora band

14.9.2018 at 23.30 - 23.55 - Kempele (III)
Jarmo Leskinen, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

Shortly before midnight, there was an active period in the northern lights when the lower part of the northern lights was bright pink. After that, the going calmed down and a calm arc was visible until the clouds covered the sky. There was also a fireball in the pictures (picture 2) which I also saw live. The bright ball shattered to pieces and faded pretty quickly. Apparently another fireball appears in that giff assembled from GoPro images.

Half-sky auroras

25.8.2018 at 23.30 - 03.45 - Kempele (IV)
Jarmo Leskinen, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

Shortly before midnight, a dim arc of northern lights began to form at the height of the zenith. Gradually, the view of it brightened and covered more than half of the sky. The screen wasn't very bright, but the pictures in the camera recorded colors admirably. The show had continued until the dawn of the morning (the last gif described by the gopro from the morning night show).

At least 10 lightning strikes seen

24.8.2018 at 21.40 - Kempele (III)
Jarmo Leskinen, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

The thunder front passed close by, but remained mostly on top of the sea and the flashes only flickered far away without any sounds. One lightning strike was also recorded in the pictures and some kind of avalanche cloud came in front of the front.

Quiet aurora band

12.8.2018 at 00.50 - 01.00 - Kempele (II)
Jarmo Leskinen, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

The intention was to go see if the asses would be visible and at the same time take a few pictures of the night clouds that had already appeared. The surprise was quite considerable when the northern lights were clearly visible on the edge of the bright night clouds. This was the first time I saw both of these phenomena at the same time. I didn't see any asses, but this combo replaced them. Edit: I added a giff composed of GoPro images. The northern lights were visible for about 7 minutes, so for once I happened to be outside with the camera at the right time :)

Eye-catching night shining clouds

12.8.2018 at 00.50 - 03.30 - Kempele (V)
Jarmo Leskinen, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

Another great night cloud show and now also includes northern lights. Now that the nights had already darkened, the night clouds appeared really bright. I started watching the screen after midnight and all the time the clouds brightened and expanded. In the morning when I looked at the allsky camera pictures then the clouds had only been at their widest after three at night and then covered almost the whole sky. A little annoying that he couldn't control for so long.

At least 10 lightning strikes seen

3.8.2018 at 06.30 - 10.30 - Kempele (IV)
Jarmo Leskinen, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

In the morning the "alarm clock" was a little louder than normal as the thunder front rolled directly over the house :) Quickly up and cameras in the armpit to a nearby barn to shoot. Not many flashes were captured when the front did not happen to pass from the best shooting sector. After all, Trigger took a few shots after it was captured and more was recorded for the GoPro video. Giffs composed of images captured from GoPro videos.

Noctilucent clouds visible between clouds

3.8.2018 at 00.50 - 01.10 - Kempele (I)
Jarmo Leskinen, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

The night cloud show was hidden almost entirely behind the lower clouds. Only to the north was an opening in the lower clouds.

Clearly visible night shining clouds

1.8.2018 at 00.00 - 01.50 - Kempele (III)
Jarmo Leskinen, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

The first decent night cloud show of the summer for these heights. There were clouds virtually the entire extent of the sky.

Rare halos

11.4.2018 at 18.45 - 19.00 - Oulu, Oulunsalo (IV)
Jarmo Leskinen, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

While at sea yesterday at night, I first drew attention to the bright, brilliant side suns. Then the dim 120 ° side sun also began to appear dim. After looking at the sky in my time, I also saw the sun opposite the brightness, I interpret that brightness as a counter-solar arc (diffuse Greenler or Tränkle?). ZYK also shone bright for a long time. Since a decent camera was not included so I tried to capture the views on my cell phone, so the image quality is now what it is.

Half-sky auroras

18.3.2018 at 22.15 - 22.30 - Kempele (IV)
Jarmo Leskinen, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

I meant this too to go past but luckily the northern lights alert warned in time. Quickly camera in the armpit and yard. I managed to get the camera ready to shoot just in time when the northern lights began to flicker. Too bad the clouds pretty soon covered much of the best show and eventually the whole sky.

Half-sky auroras

15.3.2018 at 02.30 - Kempele (IV)
Jarmo Leskinen, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

In the evening it was so cloudy that the description of the northern lights did not really become anything. However, I left GoPro to describe possible better views. At night, the sky was clearer and the northern lights were excited to shine bright. A quick timelapse summary of all night events available on YouTube: link .

Quiet aurora band

19.2.2018 at 23.30 - Kempele (II)
Jarmo Leskinen, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

The evening was so cold that GoPro was again allowed to take care of the northern lights emergency service. That, too, had then coagulated at some point in the night and only the events of the evening had been recorded. Here is a short gif animation of the northern lights seen just before midnight.

Total lunar eclipse

31.1.2018 at 16.40 - 17.00 - Kempele (IV)
Jarmo Leskinen, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

The perfect phase of the eclipse was missed as the clouds obscured the view as the moon rose. A little later, however, the moon appeared partially obscured. That eclipse was still great even then, and the final stage of the partial eclipse was almost entirely visible.

A fireball at night, brighter than a full moon

22.12.2017 at 22.05 - Kempele (V)
Jarmo Leskinen, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

Even if I put this allsky camera observation here, it will be archived. The photos contain a gif compiled from the video and a summary image.

All-sky aurora

7.11.2017 at 20.00 - 21.00 - Kempele (V)
Jarmo Leskinen, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

Surprisingly great early evening northern lights show. Even the bright moonlight didn't bother me when the handsome arc warped over the entire sky.

Sumukaari artificial lightsourcessa

1.11.2017 at 00.00 - 00.30 - Kempele (III)
Jarmo Leskinen, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

In the evening I left GoPro to shoot in the hope of northern lights / fireballs. As for the northern lights, the outlook was quite modest and only one of the fireballs seems to remain in the pictures. But the fog arches appeared on many occasions. The main cause of the arcs is the bright floodlights about half a mile away (whose orientation is a bit wrong). The second arc was also dimmer in the pictures, it is probably caused by the moon. That arc appears slightly lower than the brighter arc caused by artificial lights. I compiled the images into a gif animation where that phenomenon is shown ...

Quiet aurora arc

24.9.2017 at 22.30 - 23.59 - Kempele (II)
Jarmo Leskinen, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

For more than an hour I watched the twisting of the northern lights in the sky. Most of the time, the calm arc of northern lights moved slowly, momentarily a little more life and a little redness at the bottom. I collected a few giffs from the descriptions and in that that movement looks much more brisk;)

Half-sky auroras

16.9.2017 at 00.00 - 05.00 - Kempele (IV)
Jarmo Leskinen, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

In the evening I was already going to sleep when I noticed that the sky was almost completely clear and a dim arc of northern lights warped over the entire arc. The plans immediately changed, with cameras in and out quickly. I set up GoPro as the first to photograph a timelee and then started rapping the pictures myself with common sense. The northern lights were in such a wide area that I took a series of pictures with the widest lens that can be found. Compiled from these images brings a gif timelapse. Gradually, the very blazing eased and all that was left were the rapidly pulsating norther...

Quiet aurora arc

2.9.2017 at 23.00 - 00.00 - Kempele (II)
Jarmo Leskinen, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

Dim northern arc of light and a few brighter rays. There was also a fine perimeter that formed in the fog.
