Half-sky auroras

17.3.2013 at 20.30 - Mäntsälä (IV)
Teppo Laitinen, Keski-Uudenmaan Altair

Like many others, the description of the comet changed to northern lights. The intention was just to go quickly to take a couple of pictures of the comet so not enough equipment was taken, let alone clothes. had to come to terms with what was. The phenomenon itself was the coolest I remember seeing in southern Finland. Really colorful and at best filled the half sky. About 100 pictures had to be taken until the fingers were so iced that they could no longer use the camera (of course no gloves included)

I noticed by bed by the northern lights, so nothing but clothes on and to shoot. Weren’t as handsome as they were in March, but it’s always nice to watch them.

Teppo Laitinen, Keski-Uudenmaan Altair

I had watched from the internet that the chance to see the northern lights would be good. The clouds flying in the sky throughout the day did not bode well for the phenomenon, but in the evening the sky opened for a moment so I got a few pictures. Pretty modest performance this time was missed.

22.9.2014 at 22.00 - Inari (III)
Teppo Laitinen, Keski-Uudenmaan Altair

The intention was to photograph the Milky Way and the North American fog, but the subject changed to northern lights. I managed to shoot for about half an hour before the clouds from the north stopped doing it.

My attempt to photograph the Milky Way turned to Northern Lights again, But not annoying, was such a great performance. The problem was mainly that where to point the camera when everywhere was to be photographed. The second picture also included a fireball (in addition to the satellite). In the last picture I took a kind of "selfie".

Half-sky auroras

30.9.2014 at 23.30 - Inari (IV)

The magnificent northern lights filled the sky again and effectively prevented ds filming. This time I saw shapes I haven’t seen before. Directly in the zenith it was as if a colorful snake had slipped back and forth quickly. Too bad at that point, of course, the camera wasn't ready to shoot yet.

I went in the early evening to check on the situation, but I didn’t photograph them yet. Over the course of the night, cucumbers many times in the sky, if now. Finally around noon. 1.35 reposet began to brighten, but of course at the same time fog rafts began to form at the scene. Luckily, the fog wasn’t flat but it sometimes had holes in it, so I was able to take pictures. At the same time, several flocks of geese flew over which created a terrible mecca when lit by a bright flashlight. Did not like.

Auroras seen through breaks in the clouds

21.12.2014 at 22.30 - Mäntsälä, Ohkola (II)
Teppo Laitinen, Keski-Uudenmaan Altair

The forecasts looked good, but the sky was cloudy, of course. In my time I waited until a little gap tore in the clouds, but at that moment the northern lights were calm.

Half-sky auroras

Teppo Laitinen, Keski-Uudenmaan Altair

Whether night. There are such great pictures here that your own shots will pale alongside them. If on Friday the clouds don’t stop filming the solar eclipse, then one could say the week was pretty good and the winter clouds are no longer so annoying.

Teppo Laitinen, Keski-Uudenmaan Altair

I photographed one ds object with a telescope as the attention was drawn to the north and not from inside to pick up another camera to get the first northern lights of the season photographed. The show was very modest, but the season of fire opened up on its own.

29.8.2015 at 00.05 - 01.50 - Mäntsälä, Ohkola (II)
Teppo Laitinen, Keski-Uudenmaan Altair

I looked online for a chance at the northern lights and went at midnight to take a few pictures, but it was pretty quiet. I tried again after a couple of hours when they were a little brighter. Picture 1 taken at about 1.50, pictures 2 and 3 at midnight.

I watched from the internet that the northern lights could be seen and the clouds might recede for a moment. That's what happened at about 1:00, when I put the camera on the edge of the field to shoot. At first, the northern lights were calm but the two countries became clearer.

The northern lights weather it as it continues here in the south. Admittedly, the description at the time was calmer, but clearly noticeable. In the same picture your stump is probably an iridium satellite?

20.9.2015 at 21.43 - 22.26 - Mäntsälä, Ohkola (II)
Teppo Laitinen, Keski-Uudenmaan Altair

From the beginning of the night I went to peek if I could see the northern lights, after all. It was so foggy that I picked up the Haenko camera, but because the fog seemed to thin out a bit at times, I shot it and got a few pictures taken.

Half-sky auroras

7.10.2015 at 20.50 - 21.40 - Mäntsälä, Ohkola (IV)
Teppo Laitinen, Keski-Uudenmaan Altair

I noticed the northern lights a little late and the clouds were already coming on. The best play was left behind the clouds, but it was able to follow its progress from the colors of the clouds. The crown pictures were taken as the clouds thinned for a moment. Fortunately, great pictures of this play have been obtained elsewhere in Finland.

Teppo Laitinen, Keski-Uudenmaan Altair

The Northern Lights play continued, but now that the clouds didn’t bully they were, of course, dimmer. After all, they had to be photographed, because towards quieter years we go here. The brightest phase lasted only a short time between about 9 pm and 9.30 pm.

The northern lights of the turn of the year remained dim from the beginning of the night. Later in the night it seems to have been brighter, but there was other things to do at that time.
