A fireball at night, brigter than the venus

22.12.2017 at 20.05 - Tampere ja Kangasala
Markku Lintinen, Tampereen Ursa

Friday night’s fireball became an observation for two surveillance cameras capturing the sky. One is in the Ursa Observatory in Tampere and the other in Kangasala. Observation report in Radiant: http://radiantti.blogspot.de/2017/12/tulipallo-tallentui-kameraan.html Video clip: https://www.dropbox.com/s/c8ktkuuur6xs30q/NVRmini-ProBullet-2A62+294_20171223-102316_1_10.avi?dl=0

A fireball in a twilight sky

Markku Lintinen, Tampereen Ursa

This observation is related to Kaisa Moilanen's fireball observation no. 71266. The video recording shows a steady flash for about 3 seconds. Using Sky Safari, I located it in the direction of the star HD 146870 (see attachments) If this is a question of the same observation, then a fireball may have been observed directly in my pictures. EDIT: Afterwards, I looked beyond the video recording and a flash of what happened nearby 17s later changes the interpretation of the phenomenon. The Sky Safari simulation model does not show any suitable satellites for this, but according to Heavens Abov...

Thanks for the tip - with the help of Samuli Ikäheimo's great fireball video (no. 71560) I found the same fireball in the picture of Yönsilmä in the Tower of Tampere. The left edge of the image is approximately 310 degrees and the right edge is 30 degrees.

A fireball in a twilight sky

The beginning and end of the observation were exceptionally divided into video recordings of two cameras. The clock of the camera that shot the rest seemed to be about 0.5s behind the timing of the first part.

A fireball at night, brigter than the venus

Based on other observations, a fireball was searched for in the Night Eye video. Judging from the star map, it went out in direction 007, at an altitude of 13 degrees from the horizon. Lake Näsijärvi begins to open from the western edge.

Markku Lintinen, Kari A. Kuure, Tampereen Ursa

Among other things, the fireball reported in Zenith in Tornio was found in the video of the Night Eye in the Kauppi tower. The picture shows a reflection from Lake Näsijärvi just before the fireball went out. Last night, the shooting settings had been changed from the previous 1 / 3s to 1/25 s while WDR was activated. This helped the brightness of the northern sky, although it increased the noise. Kari Kuure edited the video recording and published the observation in Radiant: http://radiantti.blogspot.fi/2018/05/tulipallo-jalleen.html

A fireball at night, as bright as a cresent moon

12.8.2018 at 01.44 - Tampere (IV)
Markku Lintinen, Tampereen Ursa

Found in the night eye record based on Korsholm's observation. The stars on the right side of the fireball are Gamma and Beta Ursae Majoris. At the same time, to the north, there were super-bright night clouds.

Date corrected. Based on the Helsinki observation, searched in the record of the Kauppi tower. https://www.taivaanvahti.fi/observations/show/77686 A short bright flash is displayed in only one 3 fps image. Reflected from the surface of Lake Näsijärvi. In the last picture shades adjusted.

There are a couple of other observations from this that I search for in the Night Eye recording. There was a handsome northern lights background almost all evening. Video of almost 5s flight: https://www.dropbox.com/s/551bu290xv7qsca/fireball-1fps.mov?dl=0

A fireball at night, brigter than the venus

Markku Lintinen, Tampereen Ursa

There was some excitement and luck in finding this. Pirjo Koski had got a great picture of a meteor with a northern lights background: https://www.taivaanvahti.fi/observations/show/79180 I made a rough but erroneous directional assessment of this event over a week ago on Sky Safari. Janne Sievinen thought it was wrong and calculated a more precise direction. It wasn’t until the second visual observation became more accurate in timing that I found this in Kangasala’s recordings. The excitement came from the fact that in the ring buffer of the recorder yesterday afternoon, that Sunday Northern L...
