10.8.2017 at 19.50 - 19.51 - Washington DC, Yhdysvallat (IV)
Tommi Järvilehto, Vaasan Andromeda

On a solar eclipse trip, we went to Washinton, DC. In the afternoon we started visiting the sights of the downtown park. Finally, we still had time to visit the other end of the park at the Lincoln Memorial. Fatigue weighed on my legs and there was a longing for the hotel’s resting place. After the rugged nature of Lincoln, we decided to wait another half hour and watch the sunset from the memorial stair bridge. The view of the obelisk and reflecting pool at the Washinton Memorial was good. While waiting for the sunset, it occurred to me to see if the International Space Station would be visib...

Penumbral lunar eclipse

10.1.2020 at 21.04 - Vöyri, Maksamaa (II)
Tommi Järvilehto, Vaasan Andromeda

Relatively bright weather for half-shadow eclipse. At times the Moon was not covered by clouds at all. There were great colored rings when the clouds were in front of the Moon. Even double rings were visible. After the shooting session now at midnight, perhaps the brightest full moon night I have seen, even though there is no snow on the ground. The colors stand out in the landscape. Single exposure. Appropriate cloud in front, so the moon did not burn completely burst in the picture.

Diffuse glow

The filming trip was set off when repos were promised. The moon was already quite bright. Slightly visible bare northern lights were visible. Otherwise a comfortable trip in the night winter scenery. The pearl owl rumored.

On a northern lights shooting trip, I met a church with a facade and yard lights turned off for the night. Finally the opportunity to shoot with long exposure the Milky Way in the background. Pearl owls rumored nearby.

A fireball at night, brigter than the venus

3.12.2014 at 03.58 - Vaasa (III)
Tommi Järvilehto, Vaasan Andromeda

Is this a satellite or a fireball? Looks pretty uneven so could there be a fireball? Before going to bed, I noticed that the sky was clear. I put Gopro on the balcony to photograph the night child. This was found in one box.

A fireball at night, brigter than the venus

The 25-year celebration of Andromeda in Vaasa went fruitfully with mulled wine and pepper, following the Geminides and they were very nice to see. The audience got to see several star flights during the evening. As the clouds came, this was visible through the thin clouds. In addition, one image of the basic Geminid. Diffuse glow

Northern lights gauze photographed from Vaasa Observatory. Only the green gauze was visible to the naked eye. Below the repos weaves the ski slope at the edge of the crater and the city lights behind.

All-sky aurora

Tommi Järvilehto, Vaasan Andromeda

Appropriately, we were at the observatory starting from the order screen when the northern lights started to appear already in the light blue sky. The email alert had also arrived a little earlier. It was an amazing repo show. The brightest northern lights I have ever seen. No clear bright crown was visible during this 2.5h, but at one point the whole sky was so bright from the northern lights that the whole landscape brightened. It was as if there was about 70% moon in the sky illuminating the landscape, but the moon was below the horizon. Red and white stood out to the naked eye in addition ...

All-sky aurora

14.12.2015 at 19.10 - 21.10 - Vaasa (V)
Tommi Järvilehto, Vaasan Andromeda

Literally the northern lights of the whole sky. The camera is facing East. Orion covered with northern lights. These were the southernmost things that had come to be seen. All in all, it was awesome from the starry sky views. Calm little frost. Northern lights in the sky and a flock of geminids on top. In the northern and northern sky's northern lights, red stood out easily to the naked eye. At nine o'clock there were clearer greens, perhaps even slight shades of yellow in the northern sky. At seven o'clock in the early evening, spots or more vague gauze were visible.

Dimmable northern lights in the city with the naked eye. More details were nicely captured in the photos. With the naked eye, a red stood out in the darkness of the beach. There was still a gif animation minitimelapse added. 43x3s, 1s field. Video duration is actually 2m52s

Active aurora band

In addition to the big spot, the sun offers more to see this week. Had to go to inspect the northern lights when it was predicted and yes it was worth it. In addition to the basic calm arc of northern lights, there was a very intense moment that lasted a few seconds. Here are a couple of pictures of the event. This is pretty much in line with the visual situation. The red and white color was very intense when seen with the naked eye.

Half-sky auroras

24.8.2016 at 00.00 - 01.00 - Vaasa (IV)
Tommi Järvilehto, Vaasan Andromeda

Awesome Northern Lights Night! Announcements came about the possibility of northern lights. I left for the city to shoot the aftermath of the sunset. It was really quiet and peaceful. All 60,000 city dwellers were somewhere other than on the beach watching the night scenery. For about ten minutes there was a northern lights crown in the zenith. The camera was filming a west timelapse series so I didn’t bother to turn the strainer up. However, Timelaps came to some activity even though the main activity was in zenith and northwest. Half-sky auroras

13.10.2016 at 21.30 - 22.30 - Vaasa (IV)
Tommi Järvilehto, Vaasan Andromeda

The values of the northern lights were so great that I had to go out to shoot. This time in the heart of Vaasa in the middle of the lights. The handsome Korona flashed for a moment at 9:52 p.m. Almost a full moon didn't bother. White, red, and green were visible to the naked eye at the time of the corona. Then the Northern Lights faded only into the green spotted carpet of the whole sky visible in the camera.

Aurora rays

13.10.2017 at 21.30 - 22.00 - Vaasa (II)
Tommi Järvilehto, Vaasan Andromeda

Surprisingly, the clear weather was contrary to the weather forecast. Vaasa's Andromeda puskaradio alerted me to the repo and received a wake-up message not to just sleep past this;) Urban northern lights bong this time. At the heap market in the center of Vaasa. Old youth house, Nikolai church and barracks officer's residence. Great when it was bright for a long time and still reposet on. Well the orbit was left undescribed.

Quiet aurora arc

19.10.2017 at 23.00 - 00.00 - Vaasa (II)
Tommi Järvilehto, Vaasan Andromeda

Urban northern lights in the relatively quiet center of Vaasa on a weekday evening. There were no worse people on the move. Only the occasional fall of maple leaves brought its own voices into the dark evening. The northern lights did not last long, fortunately we had to be ready to photograph the starry sky. On the way home, a couple of turned off street lights were used. A suitably dark stretch of street to describe even more. Northern lights always became slightly activated even after coagulation.

Half-sky auroras

4.12.2017 at 21.55 - 00.08 - Vaasa (IV)
Tommi Järvilehto, Vaasan Andromeda

The forecast promised strong northern lights, but the evening began softly. In the moonlight and in the heart of the city, a northern lights belt was visible almost in the zenith on the Milky Way. At first it looked as if the orbit had been visible in the moonlight and downtown lights, but after taking the picture it was confirmed as a northern lights belt. There were a few more intense moments and during the short moment at midnight the northern lights intensified a lot and the naked eyes could be seen to quickly move the rays from which white and purple stood out even to the naked eye. The c...

Quiet aurora arc

A delicate arc of northern lights on the eve of Independence Day. Really just stood out from the photo. The moon was still bright.

Quiet aurora band

15.3.2018 at 22.30 - 00.00 - Vaasa (II)
Tommi Järvilehto, Vaasan Andromeda

The Northern Lights play continued on the second night. The calm belt was activated slightly a few times during the observation period. Urban description this time in the lights of the city of Vaasa. In front of the Maritime Museum. Really nice to spend a couple of hours alone in the city area, relatively quiet, no one was visible. Frost banged in the trees, ice drifted underneath and the duck laughed like Aku the Duck somewhere nearby. -13C, calm.

Quiet aurora arc

22.3.2018 at 22.00 - 23.10 - Vaasa (II)
Tommi Järvilehto, Vaasan Andromeda

The bright evening calmed down, the crescent moon already illuminating the landscape quite brightly. Olli from the order screen keeping a nice group of firm sausages while grilling at the Vaasa Andromeda Observatory. A thin line of northern lights that stood out just barely to the naked eyes was in the sky. The projections promised small G1-class northern lights. I was left to stick to the observatory in hopes of filming brightening repos. There was a nice little activation at the familiar time of 11pm, I put the camera to capture the sky for 20 minutes and admired the sky. Had to go to sleep....
