All-sky aurora

7.10.2015 at 19.45 - 22.30 - Vaasa (V)
Tommi Järvilehto, Vaasan Andromeda

Appropriately, we were at the observatory starting from the order screen when the northern lights started to appear already in the light blue sky. The email alert had also arrived a little earlier. It was an amazing repo show. The brightest northern lights I have ever seen. No clear bright crown was visible during this 2.5h, but at one point the whole sky was so bright from the northern lights that the whole landscape brightened. It was as if there was about 70% moon in the sky illuminating the landscape, but the moon was below the horizon. Red and white stood out to the naked eye in addition ...

All-sky aurora

14.12.2015 at 19.10 - 21.10 - Vaasa (V)
Tommi Järvilehto, Vaasan Andromeda

Literally the northern lights of the whole sky. The camera is facing East. Orion covered with northern lights. These were the southernmost things that had come to be seen. All in all, it was awesome from the starry sky views. Calm little frost. Northern lights in the sky and a flock of geminids on top. In the northern and northern sky's northern lights, red stood out easily to the naked eye. At nine o'clock there were clearer greens, perhaps even slight shades of yellow in the northern sky. At seven o'clock in the early evening, spots or more vague gauze were visible.

Eye-catching night shining clouds

16.8.2015 at 00.00 - 02.15 - Mustasaari (V)
Tommi Järvilehto, Vaasan Andromeda

After a few evenings the night clouds are visible again. An hour earlier, even northern lights were visible in the light blue sky. There must have been a big storm on the ground. Now it was no longer visible, but the night clouds intensified and expanded. I still left GoPro to photograph the timelapse, let alone see in the morning what was recorded from the night. edit: 2:00 The night clouds have continued to expand. I had to try to shoot with big big values, so the northern lights came from there. Image1 = 00:40 Image2 = 02:04 Figure 3 = 02:02

At least 10 lightning strikes seen

3.8.2016 at 00.00 - 03.00 - Vaasa (V)
Tommi Järvilehto, Vaasan Andromeda

I followed the rain radar picture and a decent thunder front was coming over the city in the middle of the night and that’s how it came. Usually thunderstorms circumnavigate the city of Vaasa. I tuned the camera to take pictures on the balcony and watched the coming thunder front. I went to watch TV a bit in between. I guess I sleep happily on the couch with the balcony door open during the loudest rumble. I woke up to the pouring rain on the exiting thunder front. Now it was time to go through the pictures and several hits came to the cell even though the pictures were taken from the first fl...

At least 10 lightning strikes seen

29.7.2018 at 20.00 - 01.30 - Mustasaari (V)
Tommi Järvilehto, Vaasan Andromeda

In the Vaasa city area, we watched a thunderstorm that raged all night, a little next to the cottage. At times, the thunder cells came a little closer and we got downpour. Until then, the last night of the thunder cell came over and then struck lightning about 300 meters away. There was also a crackle. There was all kinds of shooting equipment during the evening. The other cameras had been collected and I left the gopro overnight to take a picture. These couple of best pictures were saved with it. Jpg images bring a bit of a challenge to post-processing. There were a lot of white dots in the c...

Half-sky auroras

24.8.2016 at 00.00 - 01.00 - Vaasa (IV)
Tommi Järvilehto, Vaasan Andromeda

Awesome Northern Lights Night! Announcements came about the possibility of northern lights. I left for the city to shoot the aftermath of the sunset. It was really quiet and peaceful. All 60,000 city dwellers were somewhere other than on the beach watching the night scenery. For about ten minutes there was a northern lights crown in the zenith. The camera was filming a west timelapse series so I didn’t bother to turn the strainer up. However, Timelaps came to some activity even though the main activity was in zenith and northwest. Half-sky auroras

13.10.2016 at 21.30 - 22.30 - Vaasa (IV)
Tommi Järvilehto, Vaasan Andromeda

The values of the northern lights were so great that I had to go out to shoot. This time in the heart of Vaasa in the middle of the lights. The handsome Korona flashed for a moment at 9:52 p.m. Almost a full moon didn't bother. White, red, and green were visible to the naked eye at the time of the corona. Then the Northern Lights faded only into the green spotted carpet of the whole sky visible in the camera.

Half-sky auroras

4.12.2017 at 21.55 - 00.08 - Vaasa (IV)
Tommi Järvilehto, Vaasan Andromeda

The forecast promised strong northern lights, but the evening began softly. In the moonlight and in the heart of the city, a northern lights belt was visible almost in the zenith on the Milky Way. At first it looked as if the orbit had been visible in the moonlight and downtown lights, but after taking the picture it was confirmed as a northern lights belt. There were a few more intense moments and during the short moment at midnight the northern lights intensified a lot and the naked eyes could be seen to quickly move the rays from which white and purple stood out even to the naked eye. The c...

Half-sky auroras

27.9.2019 at 21.36 - 01.50 - Mustasaari (IV)
Tommi Järvilehto, Vaasan Andromeda

Timelapse from 21:36 to 21:53 at the same time as the others were filmed by Steven. 200 2s exposures every 5s. Steve, well described by the others, was just outside the picture field. There is a relatively bright echo of city lights in that direction, so there was no camera pointing in that direction. Pictures taken at church after midnight 1s exposures. In the picture of the belfry, the lights in the yard were still on. At that time, the northern lights were close to the maximum. The arch had already sunk into the zenith. An awkward subject for this big northern lights show. There should be f...

Half-sky auroras

17.4.2021 at 02.21 - 02.32 - Vaasa (IV)
Tommi Järvilehto, Vaasan Andromeda

At night there was quite a storm of northern lights. They were not very bright, but extended to the zenith, and spots could be seen with the naked eye, which disappeared fairly quickly and reappeared again. Were these pulsating northern lights? The video shows. I only took 1.6s of exposures. Timelapse from 02:21 to 02:32 352 x 1.6s exposures at ISO 6400 f / 2

Half-sky auroras

5.3.2022 at 22.30 - 23.59 - Mustasaari (IV)
Tommi Järvilehto, Vaasan Andromeda

The bright northern lights came as a surprise. The prediction did not promise so great. The northern lights were over the zenith. The rays extended from the interval to the zenith when seen with the naked eye. The redness of the lower parts was also visible. In the final stages, spots that appeared and disappeared very quickly appeared. About 1,800 exposures in the timelaps video 2s. From 22:30 to 25:59. 24 fps

Halo phenomena covering the sky

14.5.2014 at 08.05 - Vaasa (IV)
Tommi Järvilehto, Vaasan Andromeda

The start to work started with a great halo play. I haven't seen anything like it before. Probably covered almost the whole of Finland. The sky guard is full of observations. Starting to burn more and more with the acquisition of a smart camera and fisheye lens. He would have gotten more out of this than with a pocket camera alone.

Total lunar eclipse

28.7.2018 at 00.34 - Vaasa (IV)
Tommi Järvilehto, Vaasan Andromeda

The moon finally came out after the total eclipse. Picture of the loading tower of the mills in the inner harbor of Vaasa. Today used by the Swedish-speaking student union. Music festivals were in the harbor at the same time.

Total lunar eclipse

21.1.2019 at 06.34 - 08.00 - Vaasa (IV)
Tommi Järvilehto, Vaasan Andromeda

Nice to watch the complete lunar eclipse from your private balcony while enjoying your morning tea. The moon was so high that it was well visible. It was cold, -15C. During the deepest phase, the sky was closed. At first it was clear. Towards the end, the cloud ferries also went before the moon. During the cloud, the battery also ran out. Missing images from cloudy weather. Still picture taken at about 07:44

Bright night shining clouds

13.8.2015 at 23.30 - 01.10 - Vaasa (IV)
Tommi Järvilehto, Vaasan Andromeda

We were watching Perseid star flights in the meteorite crater of Söderfjärden. On the second day, they were seen quite comfortably during 15 hours. The northern sky had bright illuminating night clouds throughout our stay and changed a lot during the evening. edit: I still made a video of 33 randomly taken pictures. The images could have been aligned at a better time. Pictures worn + levels. This paperback doesn't quite manage to perform in the very dark. from 00:41 to 1:09 https://youtu.be/8wdY15dXxuQ

Finally a relatively dark and rather winding play. The biggest I've seen. Reached well over half the sky to the south. Appropriately clouds on the horizon of the sun obscuring the sky. 40min gif animation to the east.
