Active aurora band

13.3.2022 at 20.20 - 20.35 - Lapua (III)
Antti Rinne, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

I went to put the car in the heating and I remembered that they needed to be seen in the northern lights. Not visible in the north, but when you looked up at the zenith, that's where they were This could probably, in principle, also have meant "more than half the northern lights of the sky," for although the most active and brightest northern lights were in a narrow area in the mid-sky, a dim calm behind the light pollution and moonlight was visible to the trained observer. However, I only wrote it as an active belt because it describes the situation of the best.

Bright night shining clouds

10.8.2021 at 22.50 - 00.14 - Lapua (IV)
Antti Rinne, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

I noticed the night clouds in the light sky even before eleven. As the twilight progressed, the area where the night clouds were visible decreased, but at the same time the brightness increased. The pictures now do not completely give justice, to the naked eye was very showy.

Clearly visible night shining clouds

28.7.2021 at 00.18 - 00.37 - Lapua (III)
Antti Rinne, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

And I haven't seen such a wide night cloud play at these latitudes yet. There were clouds over the zenith.

Partial solar eclipse

10.6.2021 at 13.15 - 15.15 - Lapua (IV)
Antti Rinne, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

I had such a great idea to shoot a timelapse video on my cell phone showing how the landscape darkens. Well, the exposure is locked but the focus is somewhere where it hurts. That tommonen potato described it then became. https://youtu.be/beSBZPPR28s With good faith, you can imagine a small change in lighting during the brightening phase. On the picture side is that always confusing pinhole trick.

The mobile phone is good for many shots, but these halos do not stand out.

Pääsateenkaari

7.9.2020 at 14.40 - 15.00 - Enontekiö (II)

At the top of Saana, a rain cloud ran over and momentarily a rainbow was visible. Yes, it stands out from the middle of the picture when you look closely. :-)

Primary rainbow

26.8.2020 at 20.15 - 20.20 - Kuortane (IV)
Antti Rinne, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

I drove from Kuortane towards Lapua when a handsome rainbow appeared in the sky. It was such a great revelation that I had to stop at the bus stop and take a few pictures.

Pearls of clouds brightly illuminate at sunset. The cell phone pictures are not very good but reveal how clear the sky was

Pearl clouds

24.1.2020 at 08.37 - Seinäjoki (III)
Antti Rinne, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

The night-cloud-like shimmering clouds caught my attention in the direction of the sunrise. But aren't these pearl clouds

Pearl clouds

30.12.2019 at 14.30 - 15.15 - Seinäjoki (II)
Antti Rinne, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

I left work in Seinäjoki to drive towards Lapua and thought about making the last fireworks purchases along the way. When I got in the car park I noticed pearl clouds in the sky. Again, I noticed well how the pearl clouds increase the amount of light tremendously.

Pearl clouds

4.12.2019 at 15.09 - 16.30 - Nurmo (IV)
Antti Rinne, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

Even pearl clouds would illuminate the landscape long after sunset

Pearl clouds

3.12.2019 at 08.59 - Lapua (III)
Antti Rinne, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

Already last night, pearl clouds comfortably added to the bright weather. The clouds also looked great this morning.

Other special clouds

22.5.2019 at 10.21 - Seinäjoki (II)
Antti Rinne, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

Would there finally be an observation valid for KH clouds? When I arrived at the parking lot at the lunch spot, I noticed clouds in the east-southeast sky. After lunch they had already evaporated.

From the window of the workplace, one could watch the 22 rings to brighten up the working day

Total lunar eclipse

21.1.2019 at 06.42 - 06.46 - Lapua (IV)
Antti Rinne, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

For once, the time was easy. Got to take pictures while going to work. It was over 20 degrees below zero, so I didn't bother to zoom out outside for very long. It was a special looking moon.

Milky way

10.10.2018 at 22.20 - Lapua (III)
Antti Rinne, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

Once the northern lights calmed down, it was time to photograph the Milky Way as well. During the 30-second exposure, the car had time to drive on a nearby road, which then illuminated the foreground landscape quite nicely.

Active aurora band

10.10.2018 at 20.30 - 22.00 - Lapua (III)
Antti Rinne, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

I paid attention to a single northern lights and checked the Hankasalmi camera on the phone. There was a green bright arch. Nothing but a photography backpack for the car and Alajoki. This time it was a little better on time and I had time to shoot just some nice belts before the show faded. These weren't quite as lively in their movements as the 7th day belts, but nice northern lights nonetheless.
