Rare halos

16.4.2022 at 14.50 - 15.15 - Vaala (IV)
Jarmo Moilanen, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

As I broke up, I noticed a side sun that was very well formed. Just like in simulations. The weak horizon ring was slightly visible in the sun, but the length was short. The side sun was starting to fade and I thought that was it. A moment later (at 15.05) I glanced at the sky and noticed that the horizon ring had appeared farther from the sun. And soon it dimmed the dim but clear 120 ° side sun. At that time, there were no other than the horizon ring and the 120 ° side sun in the sky at the time of the observation. Figure 1 was taken at 14.58 and Figure 2 at 15.11. Images have been processed ...

Several halo forms

16.4.2022 at 09.50 - 10.00 - Vaala (II)

I noticed a bright side sun in the sky and a pretty arc of zenith. By the time I got inside the camera, zyk had already crawled. appearing requires time to gimmick. The image has been processed.

Rare halos

27.3.2022 at 12.30 - 15.40 - Kirkkonummi (IV)
Jarmo Moilanen, Ursa (Etelä-Suomi)

As the pyramids faded , I drove to a better location. But there was a bright 22 ° ring in the sky for a long time. Later, pool-side and very weak side suns appeared. Around 15.25 I noticed a weak zyk. The best stage was perhaps around 15.35-40. Even a faint 120 ° side sun gripped the image (arrow), but not the horizon ring. The single box taken at 3:38 p.m. I bought a used D7100 body under Christmas after the old one broke down and should seem to clean its cell.

Rare halos

27.3.2022 at 11.50 - 12.05 - Kirkkonummi (IV)
Jarmo Moilanen, Ursa (Etelä-Suomi)

I made the mistake of glancing out during cooking. I first noticed a clear 24 degree lower parhelia on the side of the 22 rings and soon I also noticed 18 parhelias. I slammed a few pictures from the ventilation window while eating and collecting rigs. From the balcony, the trees were sadly a little in front. By the time I was finally out in the play, the pyramids had already faded. I drove to a better location, but the pyramid halves just didn’t show up anymore. The picture is at 11.55. Here is both the raw and the believed version. When there is no stack or blocker then no very handled versi...

Active aurora band

15.1.2022 at 01.08 - Vaala (III)
Jarmo Moilanen, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

The fireball camera had captured the meteor moon and very low southern lights visible in the south. Too bad the camera is black and white. This image of the northern lights was captured when that meteor to the left of the center of that image happened to flash in the sky. A fireball camera doesn’t usually react to northern lights, but it has happened so few times over the years.

One halo form

26.12.2021 at 06.22 - Vaala (I)
Jarmo Moilanen, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

The pretty two of the moon had missed the picture of the fireball camera. The small streak at the bottom right of the image is a starburst that UFOCapture had noticed and captured when it was recorded.

Active aurora band

19.12.2021 at 21.55 - 22.20 - Vaala (III)
Jarmo Moilanen, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

Coincidentally, I noticed from the fireball camera monitor that there are northern lights in the south sky. When I got out from east to west, a clear arc brightened, which soon began to wave and a couple of loops went east. After watching for a while, the northern lights dimmed and moved north. Figure 1 was taken at 22.05 SA and Figure 2 at 22.06.

Several halo forms

7.12.2021 at 10.15 - 10.30 - Kirkkonummi (II)
Jarmo Moilanen

The pretty and clear lower sun glistened against the ground. The weaker pillar continued into the sun and against the forest less than 400 m away the side sun stood out faintly as colored surfaces. Against the sky, the side sun didn’t really even show up.

A fireball at night, as bright as a full moon

29.11.2021 at 19.24 - Vaala (III)
Jarmo Moilanen, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

For once, it happened in the middle of the field of view of a fireball camera. Admittedly, a thin cloud curtain slightly in front. The video lasts 4.76 seconds. The UFO software gave a brightness of -5.2 magnitude but the brightness was probably closer to full moon. I haven’t really learned to rely on UFOAnalyzer magnitude estimates. This apparently belonged to the northern taurids that came surprisingly down into the atmosphere.

Several halo forms

27.11.2021 at 10.05 - 10.40 - Kirkkonummi (II)
Jarmo Moilanen

Quite a little play in the ice mist. The side sun was really bright at times and continued downwards also against the forest. The underside suns were not visible even though the crystals flickered against the terrain. I doubted Zyk a bit somewhere in between, but it didn’t make sure and didn’t stick to the pictures. Apparently the crystals were not thick or large enough for zyk or other rarest forms. The image is a single box of the stage (at 10.24) where the pillar was at its best.

Several halo forms

Jarmo Moilanen, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

When I tested the Raspberry Pi 4 B single-circuit computer-based all-sky fireball camera in daytime conditions and lazily in the bedroom ventilation window, I noticed that there was a pretty halo chick in the sky. The top side was quite handsome at best and there was quite a bit of a horizon ring. Too bad, because of the testing, I didn't get pictures of the best stage. And that Raspberry HQ camera module cell isn't the best for halo shooting. But here, the model is an average stack of three images believed. The stack of three images did not yet fade the clouds properly. Yes, you could...

Other storm phenomenon

22.6.2021 at 18.00 - Suomussalmi (IV)
Jarmo Moilanen, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

Let these be recorded in the Paula storm in Suomussalmi on 22 June. the damage done here. The pictures were taken on June 27. while visiting the cottage. The downpour had swept over 3 hectares of the Hunger - Wing along the road. There were storm damage in the area here and there, but this opening was the most total that I saw around the Kurkikylä in Suomussalmi. The pattern is a year ago thinned pine. The fourth picture is a few hundred meters from Hunger. There, the storm had neatly stung a group of old aspens into the stack.

For a long time a better supply in the sky. I couldn't see the parries but the Wegener there was still 46 ° with the pool sideers.

Nova V1405 Cas

30.3.2021 at 22.45 - 22.48 - Vaala (III)
Jarmo Moilanen, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

Dark place and clear night so I decided to photograph this Cassiopeian Nova (V1405 Cas) without follow-up. Well visible in the pictures. 10 exposures combined in Photoshop. Brightness about +8.0 magnitude mainly based on images. I found stars with a magnitude of at least +11.9 in the image, but the star map I used ended up there. So the Lm of the image is less than +12 magnitude.

Several bright halo forms

11.2.2021 at 10.50 - 12.30 - Kirkkonummi (III)
Jarmo Moilanen, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

There was a hint of halos in the sky in workplace communication. Turned out to be ice mist. The crystals came from the northeast. Between telecommuting, I popped a couple of times outside to shoot the play. Faded away at times and came back. The photo below was taken at 12:12 p.m. At this point, the 46-degree ring was very clear, but previously the clear horizon ring was not visible at this point.

Several halo forms

16.1.2021 at 10.30 - 10.55 - Kirkkonummi (II)
Jarmo Moilanen, Ursa (Etelä-Suomi)

The lower sun and a pillar against the landscape in the morning sun. Ice mist is perhaps a bit of a misnomer for birth. The halos appeared in crystals falling from the sky. At the end of the observation, a weak 22 ring appeared in the sky as the lower sun faded. T: -14 C. Picture taken at 10:39.

Mirage

24.6.2020 at 20.30 - 20.40 - Inkoo (III)
Jarmo Moilanen, Ursa (Etelä-Suomi)

Above the hot day, weaving from a cargo ship in the Gulf of Finland. Images cropped.

Several halo forms

9.2.2020 at 01.51 - Vaala (II)
Jarmo Moilanen, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

The pictures of the fireball camera had been captured by a nice side play on the Moon. The halos were already visible in the pictures earlier, but at this point the side of the play was at its maximum. The maximum lasted a few minutes. The pictures are so-called. sum pictures (Peak hold) for about 2 seconds. That is, practically a bit like a 2-second time exposure except that only the highest brightness of the image pixel is recorded in the image.

A fireball at night, as bright as a cresent moon

26.12.2019 at 23.43 - Vaala (IV)
Jarmo Moilanen, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

A snapshot of a long-lasting fireball on the day of Tapan's Day taken by the Vaala fireball camera. In the video, the fireball has a duration of 36.92 seconds. The fireball is initially hidden behind the trees and video recording has been interrupted while the fireball is still visible. So the actual duration of the fireball was over 37 seconds. During the flight, the main body is followed by at least 7 smaller pieces that are left behind and turn off in turn. At the top of the picture is an airplane on the London-Tokyo route.

Pearl clouds

1.12.2019 at 15.00 - 15.30 - Vaala (IV)
Jarmo Moilanen, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

For a long time decent pearls. Not very colorful, but in the dim sky already a great sight. I stopped to shoot at the marshland. Even when it is possible. A few years and there may be more than 200 meters of wind power in the picture ...
