Several halo forms

16.4.2022 at 18.00 - 18.40 - Kuopio (II)
Pasi Tuomainen, Ursa (Itä-Suomi)

Pretty impressive halos in Kuopio. Side sun, pillar, 22 degree ring, 22 upward arc, arc of the zenith environment was well visible, and a snippet of the 46 degree upward arc or ring (find out now ...)

All-sky aurora

13.3.2022 at 22.00 - 03.00 - Rautalampi, Nokisenkoski (IV)
Pasi Tuomainen, Ursa (Itä-Suomi)

The forecast for the northern lights was at least great, so I went out to the cameras to patch up the trunk of the car as soon as it got dark. What the hell, there are already decent stamps, clearly visible through the light pollution of the city. Determinedly moving from Kuopio towards Nokisenkoski by car, I thought I would get good reflections from the northern lights. Huh. Well, I got something, but the stamps were so high that it got hard. But no harm, none. I have never seen such artillery in Savo. It is indeed Korona time. I will remember this evening for a long time. Ohhoh ...

Half-sky auroras

3.2.2022 at 22.56 - 23.21 - Kittilä (III)
Pasi Tuomainen, Ursa (Itä-Suomi)

I drove on Thursday 3.2. The weather forecast for Levi and the northern lights in the next few days was quite crushing - snow and clouds all the time. Thursday was still partially clear, so hurry up to the camera armpit and go! I went to the top of Levi to shoot a reasonably powerful play and light pillars, and I took my girlfriend with me and then navigated to Pöntsö Bridge. Northern lights activity faded towards the end of the evening, but all the time the dim northern lights fluttered in the sky. After the corona play, my attention was drawn especially to the spectacular pink east-west arc,...

Light pillars

3.2.2022 at 21.00 - 21.40 - Kittilä (II)
Pasi Tuomainen, Ursa (Itä-Suomi)

Artificial light pillars and northern lights At the top of Levi was an icy mist in the air, and pillars of artificial light visible in every direction. Even the northern lights got nicely activated when the snowmobile gloves put the northern lights in the position ...

Several halo forms

15.1.2022 at 23.40 - 23.50 - Kuopio (II)
Pasi Tuomainen, Ursa (Itä-Suomi)

I drove to Oinosenmäki in the hope that I would immortalize the good northern lights in the background of the weather radar tower. The crew had gathered several local communities. Since it was still quite quiet in the sky, I photographed the Moon and noticed a piece of the ring visible from time to time, in addition to the 22-degree halo ring, in the direction of the zenith, which was then wondered by the gang what it might be ... a horizon ring anyway. And after all, that great northern lights show came in the end ...

Auroras seen through breaks in the clouds

14.1.2022 at 21.32 - 21.45 - Leppävirta (III)
Pasi Tuomainen, Ursa (Itä-Suomi)

At Leppävirta, the evening seemed to be painfully cloudy, the sky only cracking for a moment. The northern lights crown also offered, but in the end the most interesting observation was these dunes, which I have not been photographed before. Snowmobile pictures got a special background, right?

Half-sky auroras

17.4.2021 at 01.22 - 02.22 - Leppävirta (IV)
Pasi Tuomainen, Ursa (Itä-Suomi)

The images from the shooting session, which lasted more than 3 hours, show a strong purple ray in the same place, quite to the north. The duration was about an hour. Can there be a STEVE? The first picture is 1:22, that's where that car is. After still the wildest firing, I put the camera on the dock and went to the sauna, that ray seemed to fade into the invisible at about 2:22 as the post-disco swallowed the rips. There’s also that 17-minute timelapse video clip from there that I slowed down programmatically.

All-sky aurora

11.4.2021 at 00.10 - 01.30 - Inari (V)
Pasi Tuomainen, Ursa (Itä-Suomi)

At the top of Kaunispää in Inari, I thought to pop, it was pretty clear in the forecasts and the northern lights season was coming to an end. Before half the night it was still so bright that not much northern lights stood out ... or so at least I thought. Then the show started! Awesome feeling, and other wonders of heaven gathered at the top of Kaunispää ... That 2nd picture shows a narrow green collar next to the purple tops. How does that come about?

A fireball at night, brigter than the venus

9.12.2020 at 22.43 - Kontiolahti (III)
Pasi Tuomainen, Ursa (Itä-Suomi)

During the capability of the northern lights, a fireball faded away. The smoke remained in the sky until 11:10 p.m., when it was hard to identify the gizzard anymore, so about half an hour!

All-sky aurora

28.9.2020 at 02.00 - 03.00 - Senja, Norja (V)
Pasi Tuomainen, Ursa (Itä-Suomi)

Senja - Norway ... wild northern lights night ... Yes, it was worth it! I shot with two cameras from eight in the evening to three in the morning. Phew. Here are a few pictures of the Tungeneset cliffs, as well as a timelapse.

All-sky aurora

27.9.2020 at 22.33 - 22.34 - Senja, Norja (V)
Pasi Tuomainen, Ursa (Itä-Suomi)

At the end of September, it was a couple of days reasonably clear in Senja, when a fierce northern lights storm happened. As I went through the thousands of images, I noticed quite a coincidence ... a screaming thunder face, the size of the whole sky. After all, the characters in the pictures are much smaller and nowhere near as clear. Ukkeli does not shout his face in red - but rather in green ... So is this the clearest northern lights image that has come up? The Northern Lights play turned out to be like that just a couple of minutes after the situation in Figure 3 with a super bright spira...

All-sky aurora

26.9.2020 at 23.01 - 23.13 - Senja, Norja (V)
Pasi Tuomainen, Ursa (Itä-Suomi)

Senja on my adventure to the shore of a pond and there appears to be a bright stationary arch. That’s where I put the timelapse to pound. I shot it for 12 minutes, and it spread like a pretty fan. As I got away, I noticed that one foot of my camera tripod had fallen somewhere, and I could no longer find it in the bush. The annoyance was huge, however change this picture series is so meaningful to me that it was worth its damage, definitely!

All-sky aurora

26.9.2020 at 02.30 - 02.45 - Kolari (V)
Pasi Tuomainen, Ursa (Itä-Suomi)

In Ylläs in the morning 26.9. when I filmed, there was quite a show on offer. As I unpacked the images, I began to wonder more closely about these shapes, and how long they lasted. The pictures show a horseshoe-like shape that lasted 20 minutes in the sky! I took a timelapse while photographing that little cottage. Is this an Omega arc, then, or what? That edge was really impressive, and then it continued after a sharp angle as a longer straighter section that can be seen on top of that bigger building.

All-sky aurora

26.9.2020 at 00.10 - 00.19 - Kolari, Ylläsjärvi (V)
Pasi Tuomainen, Ursa (Itä-Suomi)

I photographed the warps of the early night on a yankee near Ylläs. Afterwards, from the timelapse video, I only noticed how much these northern lights were pulsing and flickering.

All-sky aurora

25.9.2020 at 22.35 - 22.36 - Kittilä, Ylläsjärvi (V)
Pasi Tuomainen, Ursa (Itä-Suomi)

From Ylläsjärvi a little towards Kittilä, I stopped next to Jänkä to shoot. Is that Steve in those pictures? It’s in place in my photo series when those green lights fluttered. I also accidentally took pictures from the opposite direction. That’s where it’s found, too, so most likely it’s gone across the sky. The time between these images is 4 minutes.

Active aurora band

23.9.2020 at 22.00 - 00.00 - Kuopio (III)
Pasi Tuomainen, Ursa (Itä-Suomi)

There was a fairly cloudless sky in Kuopio, the northern lights started with quite a firing, rising on Otava as well. In its detachment, close to the zenith, a northern lights belt near the Milky Way, in the west-northwest direction, was visible. The red color stood out better from the pictures. I didn’t even intentionally describe it, but those soft ones. Is this an SAR arc? It was especially evident after the spell of that last image.

Clearly visible night shining clouds

8.8.2020 at 01.40 - 02.00 - Leppävirta (III)
Pasi Tuomainen, Ursa (Itä-Suomi)

The air direction of the shore of my cottage in Suvasvesi is to the southwest, so there are fewer night clouds visible there. I used them while taking a sauna and they were there a little before two in the morning! I hurried by boat to a nearby headland, from where you can see very north. I took a few pictures and a timelapse until the memory card filled up and was forced to hand over ...

Half-sky auroras

18.2.2020 at 19.00 - 20.00 - Kuopio
Pasi Tuomainen, Ursa (Itä-Suomi)

At 7 pm I stopped at Saaristokatu and there were nice warps going on. I banged over a thousand pictures. Could there be that horizontal drinking of the Dunes in this first picture? So visible mainly in the front left? There might be cloudy beaches behind.

Rare halos

6.11.2019 at 10.00 - 11.00 - Kuopio (IV)
Pasi Tuomainen, Ursa (Itä-Suomi)

In the morning, halos were seen in the entire city area in Kuopio. A helicopter was in the air and a witch was found there. Moilanen's arch also happened in the picture.

Half-sky auroras

28.2.2019 at 19.30 - 22.00 - Siilinjärvi (IV)
Pasi Tuomainen, Ursa (Itä-Suomi)

The sky looked rather inconsolable in the direction of Kuopio, the cloud was ... wife taking the plane, and the kapas, from the north, the Cloud Cover began to crack. A dark place opens in search of ... then an open place was found nearby. The ice situation in the strait was pretty weak so I had to stay on land. And yes, after a while, quite a bit of northern lights started! Even the zenith of the rays was thrown.
