ISS, Moonn ylikulku

15.5.2022 at 01.12 - 01.12 - Pori (II)
Jarkko Suominen, Porin Karhunvartijat

Since there was no other hardware at the time of shooting, the ISS crossing on May 15, 2022 at 1:12 a.m., with a 600mm camera lens and a Canon SLR camera, was recorded. It was still nice to watch that quick pass from that screen from the fence. Such a small dot moves across the Moon that it requires a computer to override the view.

Sometimes it is easy to describe, although as a rule only the tested operation of the equipment after maintenance came. Here's a "service night" of gauze mist, which is a supernova remnant in the constellation of Swan. Exposure taken for 2h.

Bright night shining clouds

4.8.2021 at 03.00 - 03.30 - Pori (IV)
Jarkko Suominen, Porin Karhunvartijat

I couldn’t sleep and after looking out the window I decided to run out ... Namely, the sky was full of very spectacular night clouds.

NGC 4438

31.3.2021 at 22.00 - 02.00 - Ulvila (III)
Jarkko Suominen, Porin Karhunvartijat

I got a modified Canon Eos 700D from a friend and appropriately then came a clear weather the very next week. I had to photograph the Markarian chain for a long time (with observatory equipment while this project is in progress). Therefore, this became the object of first light for the wicked. There were street lights right next door at the scene, and even cloud ferries passed over during the shooting. Eventually the Moon rose into the sky and I decided to continue describing the object next time more (which I hope will be as soon as possible).

5.2.2021 at 06.00 - 22.00 - Nakkila (IV)
Jarkko Suominen, Porin Karhunvartijat

We were watching a small group of stars when the weather finally allowed it. Personally, I also thought of taking advantage of the joy and decided to shoot horse head fog in a narrow lane. I collected light for 3h overall, but much of the pictures ended up in the trash. Next, I’ll look at why the OIII filter is annoying, however, I got used to somehow valid 8min oxygen for this image. Edit 7.2.2021: Added image with OIII 2min x20min collected and photometric color calibration performed

There have been no full bright nights in Satakunta for a couple of months. Last night was the first for a while. Admittedly, these frosts are terrifying so much that you can’t dye outdoors all night. Fortunately, the tower's Allsky camera works almost completely on its own ... Attached is a startrail image of the clear sky from last night created by Pori Bear Guards Allsky camera.

On Christmas Eve, the clouds were cracking and my father and I decided to visit the Ulvila observatory to take some pictures of the night sky. The night was quite peaceful on the eve of the evening. However, the clouds accumulated from time to time and the Moon had to be photographed through the clouds. Moon My picture is a mosaic / panorama of three pictures.

NCC 281

6.11.2020 at 22.00 - 00.00 - Eura (IV)
Jarkko Suominen, Porin Karhunvartijat

There was little search for new locations and one was found at Eura Airport. In the early evening there were some clouds in the sky, but they receded. However, there were no clouds in front of the subject during the whole shooting time and I was able to lighten Pacman's fog for a while quite calmly. The image was already shot with a slightly old Atik 16IC CCD camera with a small Ed APO tube.

Exoplanet HAT-P-23b

27.9.2020 at 22.39 - 02.00 - Nakkila (II)
Jarkko Suominen, Porin Karhunvartijat

Here is my first observation of exoplanet overflow. Despite the difficulties and the early departure, I got enough data to observe the fading of the star. Also note from that that the brightness would have just been about to rise, but I had an early awakening and had to go to bed. The intention would be for the Bear Guards to take part in the ProAm project with the association's existing equipment and I must now say that this is our promising project!

Melotte 15

26.8.2020 at 00.00 - 02.00 - Pori (III)
Jarkko Suominen, Porin Karhunvartijat

Last season went a bit with the hardware in bad luck. Now I finally got the hardware to work ... so like. Namely, just before the discovery, my old reliable guide camera said that now is enough. Together with Tomi Kurri, we went to describe and visually observe the objects of the deep sky. My own goal was to get Melotte 15 and the surrounding heart mist for the cell. I managed to get only 30min until the battery started to clot (today luckily a new battery for my laptop came in the mail) ... But does something still work with that old ATIK 16IC camera? Or what do you think? The description at ...

This season then officially set off. Came to see Jupiter, Saturn and Mars with Tomi Kurri. Each first visually and then descriptively.

Penumbral lunar eclipse

10.1.2020 at 19.30 - 21.30 - Ulvila (II)
Tomi Kurri, Jarkko Suominen, Porin Karhunvartijat

We observed the lunar eclipse of the Moon at the Ulvila observatory with Jarkko Suominen and his son. The weather was clear and the eclipse was fine, during the deepest phase the shadow was clearly visible to the naked eye. We made visual observations with the association’s Celestron C11 and Sky-Watcher Stratravel 80 telescopes. For the photo, we installed the Boren-Simon astrograph of the association on Celika’s backpack.

10.12.2019 at 19.00 - 21.00 - Ulvila (III)
Jarkko Suominen, Juha Ojanperä, Porin Karhunvartijat

In the evening, Juha Ojanperä and I had to start to observe the passage of the Kopler 18c exoplanet, but the upper clouds filled the sky with the halons of the Moon (a pity that the rogue did not get involved ... For both). Before the clouds came, however, we ventured to take 10min single exposures of Messier’s 57 planetary nebulae.

Active aurora band

27.9.2019 at 22.00 - 02.00 - Pori (III)
Jarkko Suominen, Porin Karhunvartijat

In the evening we took the dogs out with the family and noticed a small movement of the active northern lights belt. After a short time there, we decided to take the dogs home quickly and return to the scene with my son and take the camera with him. Eventually, we found ourselves in the yyteri describing. The sky showed an active northern lights belt, northern lights gauze, and a calm northern lights belt from the northwest sky all the way to the east sky. At times, you could notice a little red among the northern lights.

The 45th anniversary celebrations of Pori Bear Guards culminated in watching the starry sky in Kokemäki. The pictures were taken by my 11-year-old son, Alex, which he helped to make. Tomi Kurri with the red light.

NGC 7635

12.3.2019 at 21.00 - 23.00 - Pori (II)
Jarkko Suominen, Porin Karhunvartijat

I was spotting a deep sky in the Pori Prefecture with great weather. Originally I had to describe the environment of M86, but when I got there I realized that the target is in that light pollution of Pori ... So I had to think of another target and Bubble Nebula was chosen as my target. The hardware was recently collimated, so at first it took time to refine, etc. Next, of course, the newly charged batteries started to clot, so I put them in my pocket to warm up and yes, there came a few more minutes of it XD. Some of the pictures were ruined due to occasional cloud rafts and the rest of the e...

NGC 2392

21.2.2019 at 00.00 - 02.30 - Ulvila
Juha Ojanperä, Vesa Puistovaara, Jarkko Suominen, Porin Karhunvartijat

We were at the Ulvila observatory to test the new tripod and get better acquainted with the camera of our association and the operation of its control software. During the training session, we imaged the Eskimos of the Twins (NGC 2392) with LRGB filters. Here is a single frame through the red filter. Image grooved, north bottom, west left. Calibration images reduced from the image, and it is stretched and saved as jpg, plus the contrast is slightly adjusted. Final color image coming later!
