Telescopic comet ZTF

12.8.2022 at 01.30 - 02.00 - Fregenal de la Sierra, Espanja (II)
Tapio Lahtinen, Tampereen Ursa

I noticed online that this interesting comet has developed a tail, even though the distance to the sun is still more than 2.5 AU. So I photographed at night with a telephoto tube and indeed, despite the moon, I could see a tail over 4 arc minutes long. After the turn of the year, this comet should brighten even to the naked eye.

Jupiter

8.8.2022 at 02.15 - 03.00 - Tampere (III)
Tapio Lahtinen, Tampereen Ursa

I tried out the deep sky camera for Jupiter last night: Well, these CMOS cameras are reasonably suitable for both. The weather was mediocre, but the Red Dot was still visible. The big boys have seen some changes in it lately, but in this weather you couldn't really see the details. The idea was to take a longer animation, but since the weather was like this, I could only take a few frames (here are the 2 best).

Jupiter

5.8.2022 at 01.50 - Tampere (III)
Tapio Lahtinen, Tampereen Ursa

When photographing Jupiter, the weather was a little worse than before when I photographed Saturn . As a bonus image, I tried to capture the M2 globular star cluster in EAA style. That is, 10 5-second exposures stacked (with FireCapture) and 6 of these. Total exposure 5 minutes. And without guidance (focal length approx. 2500 mm).

Saturn

5.8.2022 at 01.10 - Tampere (III)
Tapio Lahtinen, Tampereen Ursa

The start of the season last night. I checked the polar orientation (only a small adjustment) and collimation (no need to take action). At the end of the session, I decided to try to photograph the still low Saturn. However, it worked surprisingly well. In the second picture, the four brightest moons of Saturn.

In the morning it was clear enough that I was able to make an hour's timelapse. Video here .

Showy protu. Unfortunately, Cloudiness does not allow timelapse. Edit: edited the picture so that you can see the globe giving scale

Binocular comet PanSTARRS

1.8.2022 at 23.15 - 23.59 - Fregenal de la Sierra, Espanja (I)
Tapio Lahtinen, Tampereen Ursa

I didn't get to capture the encounter between the comet and the M10 globular cluster before. Last night I filmed when the comet passed near another globular star cluster, the M107 globular cluster. They were so far apart (2.5 degrees) that I had to rely on a mosaic of two images.

Clearly visible night shining clouds

25.7.2022 at 02.30 - 03.30 - Tampere (III)
Tapio Lahtinen, Tampereen Ursa

The first NLC show was late for me. A small timelapse video here .

Trying out a bigger solar tube at the TaUrsa tower. Strange difficulties to get a level playing field. It's hard to tell if it was due to the fog in the sky or the camera. So here are only details and one protu image.

LBN 468

20.7.2022 at 02.00 - Fregenal de la Sierra, Espanja (II)
Tapio Lahtinen, Tampereen Ursa

I photographed this same fog from Spain in 2019 as well. This autumn I photographed again. One reason was the Gyulbudaghian Nebula in the nebula, which has actually changed shape over the course of these three years. Animation as the second image. The third image is a static comparison image.

Binocular comet PanSTARRS

19.7.2022 at 00.15 - 00.45 - Fregenal de la Sierra, Espanja (I)
Tapio Lahtinen, Tampereen Ursa

A short observation session. I tried a slightly different approach - I removed the stars from the comet-stacked images and combined them with the star-stacked image. A lot of work and I don't know if it's worth the effort.

Sun

18.7.2022 at 12.50 - Tampere (III)
Tapio Lahtinen, Tampereen Ursa

There was a handsome protu on the edge (which at this point was already fading).

Handsome filaments still on the surface of the sun. Nice to be able to observe after the rainy season.

Binocular comet PanSTARRS

7.7.2022 at 00.02 - 01.02 - Fregenal de la Sierra, Espanja (III)
Tapio Lahtinen, Tampereen Ursa

I photographed the brightest comet in the sky with the Spanish telescope again. Now the brightness has already fallen below mag 9. Already tailing by half a degree. Some pictures have shown a double tail, but I couldn't dig it out myself. Edit: added a small animation

A very quick rap from the sun today - only about 100 frames in a stack. But nice prots on the edge.

SH2-63

1.7.2022 at 01.00 - Fregenal de la Sierra, Espanja (I)
Tapio Lahtinen, Tampereen Ursa

I shot this less frequently photographed Sharless catalog item with a Spanish remote. Quite an interesting object that resembles a dark fog.

Binocular comet PanSTARRS

28.6.2022 at 00.08 - 01.30 - Fregenal de la Sierra, Espanja (I)
Tapio Lahtinen, Tampereen Ursa

After a month's break, I finally got to photograph the brightest comet, which is just below the mag 9 limit. According to estimates, towards the end of the year, the comet should brighten by another magnitude, but unfortunately it won't brighten enough to be visible to the naked eye. More information here . Edit: Added animation made with AA8

Quite spectacular and lively filament in the sun and a handsome protuberance on the edge. So I had to do filming and a timelapse (still going) at Midsummer. Edit: added 1.5 hour timelapse. I was expecting more action but just something small.

At least 10 lightning strikes seen

7.6.2022 at 01.00 - 03.00 - Brescia, Italia (V)
Tapio Lahtinen, Tampereen Ursa

At night, I woke up to a constant flicker and admired the screen, which I hardly see in my home Finland.

A day’s view of the sun and an hour-long timelapse picked up a quick eruption lasting about 15 minutes .
