Perseids

12.8.2022 at 23.18 - 03.09 - Tampere (III)
Markku Lintinen, Tampereen Ursa

I stacked (maximum stack) videos from the north and south cameras of the Kaupi tower from two and three hours in about 5-minute chunks. The stacks are compiled in chronological order into a video animation. Observation time interval for the northern camera: 00:09 - 03:09 and for the southern camera 23:18 - 03:04. About 60 perseids accumulated in the pictures of the northern camera, and considerably less in the direction of the south, where the moon is brighter. Both sets of images show the line of Starlink satellites as a bright and wide line. A couple of fireballs were also included.

Perseids

5.8.2022 at 00.46 - 01.49 - Tampere (III)
Markku Lintinen, Tampereen Ursa

In the night of events in Tampere, in addition to illuminating night clouds and planets, there were also opportunities to see the early Perseids. I collected 19,000 pictures in a stack in an hour. Four possible Perseids and a few sporadic ones came into the picture. Individual dots may be traces of cosmic rays on the camera sensor. Additional pictures show the initial and final situation.

Sun

21.6.2022 at 03.45 - Tampere (IV)
Markku Lintinen, Tampereen Ursa

Today, the morning of the summer solstice, was the milestone of a three-month solar photography project. Every week, I pick up one picture from the pictures of the east camera at the time of the sunrise. The moments of ascension described were not exactly scientifically accurate, but I could wait a moment if there was a narrow cloud belt on the horizon. I used imagemagick and ffmpeg for image processing. Between the still images, I counted the 50-frame transitions, and this morning’s sunrise, unlike the others, appears as a 45-minute time child summary. From the series of images, you can see t...

Rocket-related clouds

29.4.2022 at 23.00 - 23.03 - Tampere (II)
Markku Lintinen, Tampereen Ursa

Here is a continuation of the observation report of the eastern camera https://www.taivaanvahti.fi/observations/show/106515 as seen by the northern camera. The rocket launch cloud was very faintly visible in the bright northern sky. The maximum stack seemed to be the best way to make it visible. Thinned images also show two satellites in dotted rows.

A fireball at night, brighter than the venus

21.4.2022 at 02.02 - Kangasala (III)
Markku Lintinen, Tampereen Ursa

Here is another observation from Kangasala. The beginning of the visible flight was out of range.

Active aurora band

14.1.2022 at 19.05 - 19.20 - Tampere (III)
Markku Lintinen, Tampereen Ursa

A moon hut a few miles away was planned for this evening on the lake. Already last night, it was noted that the astronomical elements were beginning to settle in place, but there had been a surprisingly strong change in the meteorological dimension - almost ten cents of water had appeared on the ice every day. In the early evening, it was noticed that in addition to the bright moonlight, the lake also did not experience the northern lights. A moment ago, as I glanced at the camera image, dune-like formations appeared there. Edit: Added timelapse for dune occurrence.

Light pillars

6.12.2021 at 22.31 - Tampere (II)
Markku Lintinen, Tampereen Ursa

In the evening of Independence Day, handsome artificial light pillars were visible in Tampere. To the east, a huge flux of light escaping from the central hospital area into the sky is an uncomfortable phenomenon that, after its recent increase, has already severely hampered observations.

A fireball at night, brigter than the venus

21.11.2021 at 00.13 - Tampere (III)
Kari A. Kuure, Markku Lintinen, Tampereen Ursa

The long-seen car was recorded in the northern and eastern cameras of Tampere's Ursa. Here is a preliminary image from the video. Unfortunately, every second picture is missing due to technical issues. I will update the pictures as soon as I can build more of them. 22.11.2021 update. Here are a couple more photos that were manually excavated from the video containing the errors one frame at a time. Unfortunately, not everything was saved, but some were. The added images are from the north and east cameras.

Diffuse glow

4.11.2021 at 21.40 - 22.35 - Tampere (I)
Markku Lintinen, Tampereen Ursa

Here is a more negative northern lights observation and an observation of the possibility of seeing northern lights that appeared strong in the models a moment earlier. The video has a lot of flashes due to corrupt screens, which I didn’t bother to edit out of here, though. Better coincidences of cloud holes and celestial events are still expected.

Active aurora band

19.10.2021 at 00.55 - 01.00 - Tampere (III)
Markku Lintinen, Tampereen Ursa

Rarely do you see such bright northern lights in an east-facing camera.

Rocket-related clouds

28.9.2021 at 00.12 - 00.17 - Tampere (IV)
Markku Lintinen, Tampereen Ursa

Here's Rocket Night! According to the Sky Guard news, this would be an Atlas rocket seen an hour and a half earlier in the second round.

Rocket-related clouds

28.9.2021 at 00.11 - Tampere (III)
Markku Lintinen, Tampereen Ursa

The beginning of the visible part of the second round of the rocket in the western camera of Tampere. The sequel is better visible in the photo of the northern camera: https://www.taivaanvahti.fi/observations/show/101543

Rocket-related clouds

27.9.2021 at 22.38 - 22.41 - Tampere (IV)
Markku Lintinen, Tampereen Ursa

With the help of other observations, this trace of the rocket's flight was also found in the recording of Tampere's northern camera.

ISS

26.9.2021 at 20.30 - 20.34 - Tampere (IV)
Markku Lintinen, Tampereen Ursa

Sky Safari alerted "ISS (Zarya) rising". Good when reminded. This was my best observation to date at these latitudes. The video is somewhat accelerated. The ISS disappears into the shadow of the earth shortly after passing Jupiter. Even on Monday night, this is worth a look. Still quite clear skies may appear in the south at about 19:45 and in the direction of Jupiter at 19:47:30. The next round rises from the southwest at 21:17 and disappears into the shade just before noon at 21:22.

Starscape image

30.8.2021 at 00.00 - 04.55 - Kangasala (IV)
Markku Lintinen, Tampereen Ursa

Signs of autumn visible - Ursa Major arrives on stage. The moon also flashes on the right side as well as several satellites. The arc and rays of the northern lights that appeared at 02 o'clock raised only a hint of reddish reflection at this observation site. The camera is a new northern camera coming to the Kauppi tower in a test drive. From the still bright nights so far, it would seem to be quite suitable for northern lights and fireball photography. The sensitivity is in specs 0.0005 Lux and the resolution is 3840 x 2160. Time-lapse video is calculated from the recording with ffmpeg a...

Perseidit

13.8.2021 at 00.55 - 01.20 - Tampere (III)
Markku Lintinen, Tampereen Ursa

Many times Persians have been viewed under the open sky and the storm has been welcomed. This time I was an armchair astronomer with a corrected celestial camera recorder allowing the observation window to be moved to dusk. Four Perseids appeared in this interval. I changed the timestamps a couple of days ago to UTC.

Bright night shining clouds

10.8.2021 at 23.00 - 04.30 - Tampere (IV)
Markku Lintinen, Tampereen Ursa

It was little that this observation had not been made either. The hard drive of the video recorder disappeared again after the morning configurations. In the afternoon I went to the tower to persuade the device and still thought I could get extra time. The night clouds did not rise very high this time, but they were beautiful as such. The hurried child made in a hurry had some extra left at each end.

Bright night shining clouds

3.8.2021 at 23.30 - 04.15 - Tampere (IV)
Markku Lintinen, Tampereen Ursa

In the wake of the fireball noise, while checking the cameras, I came across a play of colorful night clouds. The cloud pattern slowly expanded from northeast to far south. After all, a small glimpse was also found in the fireball seen by many. In the east, the moon advances racing with the clouds and in the saturated image disappears into its cloud mass. There is a brightness jump in the image of the eastern camera when the camera switches out of HDR mode at a timed time soon after the start and returns to it at 3:30, which also distinguishes the brightness ratio of the moon and clouds. The m...
