Zodiacal light

8.3.2013 at 21.15 - Parainen (III)
Juha Ojanperä, Porin Karhunvartijat

For a change, I was making observations in Parais, in the Turku archipelago. When I arrived at my observation site tonight at about 9 p.m., I looked at the sky, and in the northwestern sky I noticed a wedge-like glow in the plane of the ecliptic, which was at its brightest around the constellation of Aries. The glow was similar to what I noticed in the same place at the same time of year three years ago. The glow was clearly visible to the side of the eye and 'sweeping' back and forth. The glow was quite dim and diffuse, but still noticeable! I watched the situation develop over the co...

Zodiacal light

28.1.2022 at 19.30 - 20.15 - Laitila (III)
Pirjo Koski, Juha Ojanperä, Riku Poskiparta, Porin Karhunvartijat

The group set out on a trip to the wilderness to spot the zodiac light and this mission was quite successful. Huge difference in light pollution of observation sites, normal Laitila-Pyhäranta vs. Toma. Toma took the victory in the dark. The story of the evening in its entirety came to Heaven on the girl’s site, i.e. here

Spring zodiac light model 2022 immortalized in the spring-winter landscape in Parais. The first image is jpg - straight from the camera (lazy when I am, and I’m no photo wizard), the second image is lightly “spoken” to make the phenomenon itself better. into view.

Zodiacal light

4.3.2022 at 20.25 - Nakkila (III)
Juha Ojanperä, Porin Karhunvartijat

The zodiac light can also be seen in Nakkila, although it has to compete with several light pollution sources. The first image jpg directly from the camera, the second image slightly contrasted.

Yaogan 16

13.8.2014 at 00.26 - Turku (V)
Juha Ojanperä, Porin Karhunvartijat

As I tried to spot the asses, I accidentally spotted a bright satellite trio in the direction of the constellation Kotka. At first, the three outermost satellites of the trio brightened and then dimmed. After this, the third satellite brightened and then dimmed. The brightness of the satellites was perhaps in the Vega class at best. With Heavensat, I look for a possible explanation for my observation. I doubt the NOSS satellite because they are known to be triplets. However, the orbit of none of the NOSS satellites matched what I observed. I also tried to update the satellite databases, but ev...

Väripilviä

20.3.2012 at 13.45 - Sodankylä, Puijärvi (III)
Juha Ojanperä, Porin Karhunvartijat

Iridescence (color clouds) in the altocumulus cloud. The phenomenon was visible in the immediate vicinity of the sun, and it was thus quite difficult to detect and describe.

Väripilviä

27.6.2012 at 19.45 - Ulvila (III)
Juha Ojanperä, Porin Karhunvartijat

The rather sharp-edged altocumulus raft was flying over the sun, and a small area of colored clouds ignited at the edge of the cloud raft. Behind the cloud board, a pollen circle was also revealed, from which I made a separate observation . These two phenomena were also visible for a small moment at the same time, as can be seen from the pictures.

Venus ja Seulaset (M45)

3.4.2020 at 22.00 - Turku (IV)
Juha Ojanperä, Porin Karhunvartijat

Venus and the Seulaset met in early April 2020. I decided to try filming this heavenly encounter in a movie. The situation was a bit challenging for some reason, and a few little mocha had to be done along the way, but I’m still quite happy with the end result! Venus ja Merkurius

21.5.2020 at 23.20 - Ulvila (III)
Juha Ojanperä, Porin Karhunvartijat

Venus and Mercury met in late May 2020. 21./22.5. the night between the planets were about 1.5 degrees apart. They thus fit comfortably into the field of view of more than two degrees provided by the 38 mm eyepiece, resulting in a magnification of 32 times. The sickle of Venus was already very narrow, the phase of the planet was only 6%. Even the angular diameter of the planet was already almost an arc minute. The sickle of Venus was an impressive sight at once! Mercury was also visible, but its phase did not stand out at this magnification. Both planets were also visible with 10x50 binoculars...

Vastapilvisäteet

6.10.2015 at 08.55 - 09.05 - Helsinki-Teneriffa, Ruotsin ilmatila (IV)
Juha Ojanperä, Linda Laakso, Porin Karhunvartijat

Spectacular rays observed from an airplane en route from Helsinki-Vantaa to Tenerife somewhere over the Baltic Sea and Sweden. I interpret these rays as counter-cloud rays. It was interesting to observe the convergence point of the rays projected against the ground!

Variable star CH Cyg

13.2.2019 at 00.19 - 00.27 - Ulvila (III)
Juha Ojanperä, Jarkko Suominen, Porin Karhunvartijat

We learned how to use the Pori Bear Guard's CCD camera and photometric measurements at the Ulvila observatory! We chose the variable, CH Cygn, as the first exercise target. We measured the brightness of the star with the "Fotodiff" program, the brightness of the star was about 7.74. The average brightness is estimated according to the photodiff report.

Tulivuori- tai metsäpalorusko

5.9.2017 at 20.30 - 20.55 - Ulvila (IV)
Juha Ojanperä, Porin Karhunvartijat

In early September, strong browns caused by forest fires in Canada were observed. Here is my observation about brown in Ulvila on September 5, 2017. We noticed brown at the Ulvila observatory during the club night. Rusko resembled pearly clouds in nature, I noticed Rusko at half past nine in the evening. I watched Rusko's development until about nine. During that time, Rusko sank lower into the horizon, gradually disappearing from view. Rusko appeared in the western sky in the direction of the sunset. I would characterize brown as looking and strong at best. Picture 1: 20.33 Picture 2: 20....

Transit overcast

11.11.2019 at 14.35 - 16.05 - Ulvila
Juha Ojanperä, Vesa Puistovaara, Hannu Määttänen, Porin Karhunvartijat

We gathered with a small group at the Ulvila observatory to try to detect Mercury's overrun, defying the probabilities. However, the threat was futile because the weather elf had already decided otherwise and that most likely scenario materialized. Throughout the crossing, the sky was almost completely gray and cloudy and light snow was obtained. It was only just before the onset of the overflow that the sun briefly glanced a little at the gap in the cloud, but by the beginning of the overflow the sun was already firmly behind a flat cloud curtain. However, we drank overflow coffees and wa...

Transit of venus

6.6.2012 at 04.00 - 07.50 - Parainen
Juha Ojanperä, Porin Karhunvartijat

The passage of Venus was left behind the clouds in Parais. Everything had to be perfect: tube, camera and observers on standby, direction right, visibility good down to the southeast horizon ... but the elf of the air had other plans in mind :( Figure 1. This was the case in Parais throughout the overpass, at times the Cloud Cover cracked a little, but not enough for anything to be seen. Figures 2.-3. One half of our observer duo in observation readiness, the other half (Linda Laakso) behind the camera

Transit of mercury

9.5.2016 at 14.12 - 21.39 - Turku (IV)
Juha Ojanperä, Linda Laakso, Porin Karhunvartijat

We monitored the Mercury overpass in Turku, Finland, where we had set up a pop-up Mercury overpass observation station. This time the weather elf was auspicious for our observation attempt, and we got to admire this rather rare celestial event from start to finish (almost) from a completely cloudless sky! After all, a little balm on the wounds after an attempt to observe the passage of Venus 2012, clouded by clouds. The sky of Turku has betrayed us often, but not this time! The crossing began clockwise at 2:12 p.m. A small cavity appeared on the side of the Sun at that time, and eventually Mer...

Total solar eclipse

11.8.1999 at 12.45 - 15.33 - Shabla, Bulgaria (V)
Juha Ojanperä, Porin Karhunvartijat

The 1999 eclipse was seen on the shores of the Black Sea in Bulgaria from a completely cloudless sky. During the eclipse, I bongus Venus from the sky. This was the first complete eclipse I saw, and it was truly an unforgettable and memorable experience! I also observed the evolution of temperature during eclipse, and found that the temperature evolved as follows during eclipse: at 12.45 + 36 ° at 14.10 + 29 ° at 14.12 + 29 ° at 15.05 + 31 °
