One halo form

22.12.2021 at 14.05 - Tampere (I)
Johannes Dahlström, Ursa (Etelä-Suomi)

From the eve of the eve. Excellently bright side suns in the ice mist.

Light pillars

7.12.2021 at 18.30 - Tampere (II)
Johannes Dahlström, Ursa (Etelä-Suomi)

Tuesday night offered a clearly higher quality crystal than Monday, and the handsome pillar play could be admired from the home balcony.

Light pillars

5.12.2021 at 23.30 - 23.55 - Tampere (II)
Johannes Dahlström, Ursa (Etelä-Suomi)

Evening walk in the direction of Naistenlahti and Lapinniemi. The icy weather was favorable for the birth of artificial light pillars, and the floodlights on the Ranta-Tampella construction site did create some handsome pillars. Pictures unfortunately only for phone quality.

Reflected primary rainbow

19.8.2020 at 19.30 - 19.50 - Tampere (IV)
Johannes Dahlström, Ursa (Etelä-Suomi)

Rainbow bowling again from your own balcony. A perfect, colorful main rainbow, but no side rainbow could be seen with the naked eye. However, on the left side of the panoramic image, it just barely separates the opaque snippet. Instead, the vertical light phenomenon rising from the right end of the main rainbow caught my attention. Reflective rainbow! A small examination of the map confirmed my suspicion that the source of the reflection was tiny Iidesjärvi, slightly southeast of the center of Tampere. It seems that its shape relative to the sun and my own location just rightly happened to alm...

Primary rainbow

31.7.2020 at 20.28 - Tampere (IV)
Johannes Dahlström, Ursa (Etelä-Suomi)

Let's look out the window at just the right time. The spectacular perfect double arc shortened to just under 90 degrees just a moment after the panoramic shot was taken.

Kuu, Jupiter ja Saturnus

7.7.2020 at 01.20 - 01.40 - Tampere (IV)
Johannes Dahlström, Ursa (Etelä-Suomi)

The cloud situation in the southern sky didn’t look particularly promising, but it did happen that by half past two the whole trio had time to show up before covering up behind a larger cloud area. Photographed from the home balcony.

Venus ja Merkurius

22.5.2020 at 22.30 - 00.20 - Tampere (III)
Johannes Dahlström, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

From the breakwater of Naistenlahti harbor. The planet duo poses together with the splendor of Hedgehog. With the naked eye, I didn’t spot Mercury, no matter how I tried to tremble. The extinction together with the brightness of the sky was the so-called Too hard a piece for Mark I eyeballs. As a bonus, a stunning image of happiness, with a medical helicopter passing right by Venus. The camera had a 2 s self-timer on, so the helicopter hitting Venus in the picture was really pure luck.

Elliptic planetary corona

4.4.2020 at 21.30 - 22.30 - Tampere (III)
Johannes Dahlström, Ursa (Etelä-Suomi)

The elliptical circumference of Venus separated by my observation of Venus and Screens. The cloud gauze gave way in less than ten minutes, but after about an hour the phenomenon was repeated with the emergence of a new cloud area.

Venus ja Seulaset (M45)

4.4.2020 at 21.30 - 23.30 - Tampere (IV)
Johannes Dahlström, Ursa (Etelä-Suomi)

I read about the encounter too late to get to the edge on Friday night, but luckily it was also clear on Saturday and Venus in an even more eye-pleasing place as an extension of the Pleiadian "bucket arm". When I got to my backyard on Masuuninmäki after nine, Venus shone bright and the stars of Seulaste were just igniting. There was a thin thin cloud of gauze in the sky that created a circle around Venus - and a distinctly elliptical one like the one I saw after I saw it! A nice surprise addition to the evening's findings. I tested different focal lengths and exposure settings in my time u...

Partial lunar eclipse

16.7.2019 at 23.05 - 23.45 - Tampere (III)
Johannes Dahlström, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

Observed from home balcony. I feared that the eclipse would be covered in clouds when the moon was not visible in the eleven countries. However, Jupiter shone bright, which confused the moment until the moon appeared behind the Tower Hotel! I had started staring at the sky at just the wrong minute. End well, all well anyway.

Quiet aurora band

7.10.2018 at 23.40 - 00.30 - Tampere (II)
Johannes Dahlström, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

Behind the buildings, lukewarm northern lights were cut in nine countries in the evening, but I acknowledged them as clouds at the time. But when reports of repos began to appear on the Internet, I had to go bong with the camera after eleven. Fortunately, there is only a half-kilometer walk from the shores of Lake Näsijärvi around Naistenlahti, and as soon as I got an unobstructed view of the northern sky, it was obvious that the play was underway. The fires were pale, yet clearly distinct to the naked eye. The movement was not easily noticed by the eyes, but in the photographs the shapes are ...

Several halo forms

26.8.2018 at 00.10 - 00.20 - Tampere (II)
Johannes Dahlström, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

A short-lived night halo play as the clouds dissipate, seen from the home balcony again. A special feature around the moon is the clear shape of the cross, which I interpret as a lunar pillar + a stump of a horizon ring.

Bright night shining clouds

28.7.2018 at 02.30 - 03.00 - Tampere (IV)
Johannes Dahlström, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

Awakening after the lunar eclipse was rewarded with a rather handsome night cloud play. The western sky showed so much activity from my south-eastern balcony that I had to grab some shooting equipment and go cycling on the adjacent Armonkalli, which offers quite good views to the north over Lake Näsijärvi. There was no pointless trip. When he returned home, the cloud show had already rested far into the southeastern sky (last picture).

ISS

20.7.2018 at 00.06 - 00.13 - Tampere (IV)
Johannes Dahlström, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

The International Space Station revolves around Finland's southern sky at midnight for a change, and what if you watch it from your own balcony. The image is composed of 188 exposures taken every second.

Landscape image of a planet

18.7.2018 at 01.20 - Tampere (IV)
Johannes Dahlström, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

Extinction and bright nights undeniably diminish the splendor of opposition Mars as it pops into the low southern sky, but it’s still nice to stare at it. In the picture, the planet poses together with the tower of Tampere Cathedral.

Rare halos

20.5.2018 at 15.39 - Tampere (IV)
Johannes Dahlström, Ursa (Etelä-Suomi)

Spotted on a beach trip. I’m not sure if that inner ring is 9r or pollen.

Several halo forms

21.1.2018 at 10.00 - 10.30 - Tampere (II)
Johannes Dahlström, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

At times, the celestial phenomenon shines from the window in when the morning wakes up and opens the curtains. That's what happened this time. Unfortunately, the sunshine - with or without halos - was not allowed to be enjoyed for very long before the clouds covered the sky. A pleasant start to the day anyway.

Light pillars

19.1.2018 at 21.00 - Tampere (II)
Johannes Dahlström, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

For a while, the ice mist gave birth to pretty nice pillars in Hervanta. At the end of the evening, the pillars were no longer visible, although the foggy weather continued.

Pearl clouds

24.12.2017 at 15.15 - 16.20 - Tampere (IV)
Johannes Dahlström, Ursa (Etelä-Suomi)

Now it is annoying that the windows and balcony of the apartment face to the southeast. Half of the sunset play stood out pretty accurately, but at least the glasses on the balcony mirrored the sky beautifully.
