Other storm phenomenon

18.8.2022 at 23.20 - 00.10 - Ulvila (IV)
Juha Ojanperä, Porin Karhunvartijat

Distant night thunder occurred around Pori on the night of 18/19/8/2022. During the night there was mainly a cloud fire, some live lightning was visible. Mainly the lightning struck inside the cloud and mostly the catches were flashes inside the cloud, but I was able to record two actual lightning strikes. The flicker was active during my observation, the flicker was visible in the sector extending from the west through the north to the east. It was difficult to photograph when it was flashing in every direction, and you didn't know which direction to photograph. There were some distant, m...

Aurora rays

17.8.2022 at 23.15 - 23.35 - Nakkila (III)
Juha Ojanperä, Porin Karhunvartijat

On the night of 17/18/2022, the aurora borealis started to appear in the evening already at the time of pleasant twilight when the Sun was -10 degrees below the horizon. So the sky was still bright, so the observations had to be made under dark sky conditions. And there was a rush to make the observation, because the clouds threatened to cover the sky completely and the observation had to be made from a gap in the clouds. The aurora borealis and rays stood out from the twilight sky, which were visually barely visible and quite hazy even in the pictures.

Jupiter

16.8.2022 at 02.50 - Ulvila (IV)
Juha Ojanperä, Porin Karhunvartijat

The opening of the dark sky observing season, with Jupiter as the target, also the first observation with my new classic cassegrain telescope. I made a traditional drawing observation of Jupiter for the old Jupiter observation card made by the moon, planets and comets division, of which I still happen to have a few copies. Seeing: 2 (1-5)

Starlink-satelliitteja

14.8.2022 at 02.07 - 02.09 - Ulvila (IV)
Juha Ojanperä, Porin Karhunvartijat

The flight of the Starlink satellites on August 14, 2022 was also recorded in the images of Karhukamera. Since the exposure was 23 seconds, the satellites do not stand out as a string of pearls, but have merged into one light streak. The satellites flew from south to north, passing across the constellation Joutsene and from there towards Otava.

Three buckets were spending time in the club on Tuesday night, and the sun could be watched and observed in many different ways; visually with a telescope (Astrosolar film in use!), digiscoping, a planetary camera, and otherwise just admiring the landscape after the sun has already set below the horizon. Initially, more detailed images of sunspot groups (2978 and 2975 & 2976 [of which also separate images]). 5. in the picture ‘digested’ The sun near the horizon at 20:10. Figure 6 The Pillar of the Sun could have had its own separate observation, but let us also add in this context --- Spring i...

NGC 3893

23.3.2022 at 23.35 - Nakkila (III)
Juha Ojanperä, Porin Karhunvartijat

NGC 3893 is a spiral galaxy discovered by William Herschel in 1788 in the constellation of the Big Bear. The galaxy is a so-called "grand design spiral galaxy" with clearly developed and showy spiral arms. Unfortunately, the spiral branches did not stand out with my observation device. Visually, the galaxy appeared as a roundish, hazy spot that is fairly uniform in its brightness distribution. There is a weak central brightness in the middle of the galaxy. The galaxy is slightly elongated, with a long axis that appears to be approximately north-south. Herschel's classification of the objec...

NGC 3877

23.3.2022 at 23.20 - Nakkila (II)
Juha Ojanperä, Porin Karhunvartijat

NGC 3877 is an Sc-type rod spiral galaxy discovered by William Herschel in 1788 in the constellation of the Big Bear and visible to us almost sideways. The galaxy is part of the M109 galaxy cluster. Visually, the galaxy appeared as a dim, thin, and oblong glow. The galaxy has a fairly uniform brightness, with a faint central brightness in the middle. The long axis of the galaxy is approximately southwest-northeast. Herschel's rating for the item was H I-201, i.e., the 201st item in Class I, "clear mists." #Herschel 400

NGC 3726

23.3.2022 at 21.25 - Nakkila (II)
Juha Ojanperä, Porin Karhunvartijat

NGC 3726 is a spiral galaxy discovered by William Herschel in 1788 in the constellation of the Big Bear. Visually, the galaxy appeared as a large, rather dim and elongated glow. The brightness distribution of the galaxy is fairly even, with a weak central brightness in the middle. The long axis of the galaxy is north-south. At the north end of the galaxy is a foreground star with a magnitude of 12.5. Herschel's classification for the object was H II-730, i.e. Class 7, "dim fogs," the 730th object. #Herschel 400
