Quiet aurora arc

3.9.2022 at 23.10 - Orimattila, Artjärvi, Tähtikallio (II)
Toni Veikkolainen, Keski-Uudenmaan Altair

On the second night of the DS meeting at Alluna, I noticed from the sky camera that the northern lights had ignited near the northern horizon. I went to the logging site to check the situation. After all, there was a green arc near the horizon. A purple hue and faint rays appeared above the arch in the photographs.

IC 10

3.9.2022 at 03.47 - Orimattila, Artjärvi, Tähtikallio (II)
Toni Veikkolainen, Keski-Uudenmaan Altair

The closing object of the 1st night of the DS meeting was the Local Group galaxy IC 10, hidden behind a thick layer of dust. The object stood out as a diffuse spot, the appearance of which reminded me of a dim reflection nebula.

NGC 660

3.9.2022 at 03.18 - Orimattila, Artjärvi, Tähtikallio (I)
Toni Veikkolainen, Keski-Uudenmaan Altair

The borderline case of a spiral and lenticular galaxy belonging to the group of faint M74 deserved to be described. The dull edges didn't come out very well in the picture, but in the middle there was a lot of structure.

NGC 6765

2.9.2022 at 23.29 - Orimattila, Artjärvi, Tähtikallio (III)
Toni Veikkolainen, Keski-Uudenmaan Altair

This irregularly shaped planetary nebula is rarely photographed because of course M57 in the same constellation usually steals the spotlight. There were enough background stars in the picture and they even made it a little difficult to visualize the object.

NGC 6751

2.9.2022 at 22.08 - Orimattila, Artjärvi, Tähtikallio (IV)
Toni Veikkolainen, Keski-Uudenmaan Altair

This small and well-defined planetary nebula could easily be photographed at the DS meeting already at the beginning of astronomical twilight. The central star almost seemed to pop out of the round disk.

NGC 6778

2.9.2022 at 22.01 - Orimattila, Artjärvi, Tähtikallio (IV)
Toni Veikkolainen, Keski-Uudenmaan Altair

These planetariums of high surface brightness can be perfectly photographed already at the beginning of astronomical twilight. This was also my 1st proper DS photo at a DS reunion. The shape of Nostopainosumu reminds me a lot.

Primary rainbow

2.9.2022 at 17.01 - Porvoo (III)
Toni Veikkolainen, Juha Ojanperä, Veikko Mäkelä, Keski-Uudenmaan Altair

On the way to Tähtikallio for the Deep Sky meeting, we spotted a rainbow that only stayed visible for a few minutes.

NGC 7331

28.8.2022 at 02.29 - Orimattila, Artjärvi, Tähtikallio (III)
Toni Veikkolainen, Keski-Uudenmaan Altair

The most beautiful galaxy of Pegasus was captured in color even though the conditions were challenging. Only the edges stood out poorly. At some point there is a place for a renewal.

NGC 6894

28.8.2022 at 01.09 - Orimattila, Artjärvi, Tähtikallio (I)
Toni Veikkolainen, Jani Katava, Kari Laihia, Keski-Uudenmaan Altair

We had photographed this object on Tähtikalli without colors about a year ago. Now we got the colors. There were serious problems with the humidity and the camera cooling had to be removed sometimes because of them, and otherwise the camera had to be operated at -15 degrees instead of the normal -20 degrees. In any case, the object of observation is recognizable.

NGC 7008

28.8.2022 at 00.02 - Orimattila, Artjärvi, Tähtikallio (IV)
Toni Veikkolainen, Jani Katava, Kari Laihia, Keski-Uudenmaan Altair

The fetal nebula NGC 7008 was imaged in color. The fog on the ground hindered the view of the dim background stars in particular, but the main object itself stood out well due to the high surface brightness.

Quiet aurora arc

27.8.2022 at 23.15 - Orimattila, Artjärvi, Tähtikallio (II)
Toni Veikkolainen, Keski-Uudenmaan Altair

The sky camera at Tähtikallio showed signs of the aurora borealis, so we decided to check the situation. After all, there was a brighter and above it a dimmer green arch with gauze in between.

Aurora rays

17.8.2022 at 23.40 - Järvenpää (III)
Toni Veikkolainen, Keski-Uudenmaan Altair

I got a subtle hint of the aurora borealis, and those were the best ones of the end of summer so far for me. There was no problem distinguishing the colors even near the center of Järvenpää. I just had to shoot in the middle of the parking lot, so I had to be careful with possible approaching cars.

IC 289

14.8.2022 at 02.57 - Orimattila, Artjärvi, Tähtikallio (II)
Toni Veikkolainen, Keski-Uudenmaan Altair

The last object of the night was a planetary nebula photographed just during astronomical twilight. The central star and the surrounding dark area were easily distinguished.

Telescopic comet Chiron

Again, the shooting target was the planetary nebula. The object was small and ring-shaped. The central star was recognizable.

(159928) 2005 CV69 (2005 CV69) The Apollo NEO asteroid was imaged on the second night of the 2022 August talcos. A kilometer-sized asteroid was discovered by the NEAT discovery program (644 Palomar Mountain/NEAT) at the Palomar Observatory on February 3, 2005. Estimated size approx. 0.9km, no other information besides track information. When filming, the asteroid was at a distance of 0.2258au and at its closest on August 17, 2022, 0.224au. The asteroid was in the Milky Way during the filming and the fast movement caused measurement problems due to the large number of stars, so it was necessary...

There was no observation of this planetary nebula in Taivaanvahti yet. The object seemed almost box-like and a little darker in the middle. The sky was very light at the time of observation.
