One halo form

24.9.2022 at 19.10 - Vaasa, Meteoriihi (I)
Timo Alanko, Vaasan Andromeda

We spent an open-door evening at our Meteorii in Söderfjärden. Its aim this time is to crown the evening flight of approx. 9,000 people to the sea to spend the night. Fittingly, the direction was towards the sun pillar. More bird photos as a bonus.

One halo form

It's nice to be able to fly a little in the autumn landscape again after cloudy days.

One halo form

The wakes of the jets spread unusually nicely into the evening sky. A mild pillar was developing above the sun.

To quote the words of Miko Peussan, you should look to the sky and not to the curls. I didn't watch live even now, but OsmoAction watched when the sky was open for a long time. The squats didn't promise anything. Looks like the upper parts have been nicely braided. The display was really low on the horizon.

Moon and Jupiter

Timo Alanko, Vaasan Andromeda

The moon and Jupiter came out nice and close together. Of course, the moon had to be burned in order to see Jupiter's moons :(

IGS 8A

The action camera was on duty during the night in case of repos. Only a little greenery was available. I watched the timelapse video it made this morning, and there was a very bright flash somewhere. I can't find a suitable satellite for that track on Heavensabov. I tried to see if the camera clock throws the hour in either direction, but I still couldn't find a suitable one. The brightness of the flash reminds me of the attempts to photograph the Iridiums. Exposures were now 7s.

Several halo forms

The Andromedans made a fuss. I picked up the Mavic to record.

Aurora rays

5.9.2022 at 23.43 - 04.35 - Vaasa (III)
Timo Alanko, Vaasan Andromeda

Compilation of last night as a timelapse. Unfortunately, you can't even see the horizon from the roof of the house, but this is unfortunately enough. The first child from 23:43-00:40 and the second 02:35-04:35. In between, it seems to have wove slowly near the horizon. The sensitivity was 1600 ISO / 7s. Next time I'll use 3200. It was a bit dark, but maybe it's more realistic this way. ISO 3200 would make OsmoAction quite grainy in the dark... When I was getting my camera out at six in the morning, a bat was circling around the roof. Pretty SPOOKY :)

Active aurora band

OsmoAction was on duty on the roof in case of repos. Fortunately, I weather-protected the auxiliary power connection with a blue sticker. That's how much water the camera got up its neck during the night. After all, the activity we saw there was also behind the clouds :) A couple of timelapse videos of the "clearest" parts of the night.

Morning cheer for city dwellers :)

Primary rainbow

30.8.2022 at 06.30 - Vaasa (V)
Timo Alanko, Vaasan Andromeda

While drinking my morning coffee, it started to look strangely colorful outside. Looking to the west, the sky had perhaps the brightest rainbow I have ever seen. The pictures don't really do it justice, but live it was breathtakingly beautiful. The interfetences also really shined.

The basic round as seen from more than a hundred meters away.

Crepuscular rays

It's a bit of a tough spot right now. The weather forecast in Vaasa promised so well that I took the Mavic into the air to find out if we could still see illuminating night clouds at these altitudes. The twilight rays were found there, but what is that brightening that was visible in all the pictures? HDR processed images with Snapseed. It brought out the area better. It's hard to tell from the raw image what's in it. I was waiting for observations from the north to support that, but at least it hasn't come so far...

First test for halos with Mavic Mini 3 pro. Even if you can raise the camera higher in automatic panoramic shooting, it will be good. For single shots, it does tilt 60 degrees upwards. Edit The halo brightened even more and I tried a 360 panorama for it. That gave a lot more height to the picture area :) Edit 2 I also added pictures from the evening. The waiting lasted many hours.

Arcus cloud

19.8.2022 at 18.20 - Vaasa
Timo Alanko, Vaasan Andromeda

It's thundering properly on the gusty side. Ground lightning is rare, but the rumbling is sometimes continuous. A storm cloud could be seen in the front of the front, but that brutally massive Kelvin-Helmholz just stole my attention. I wouldn't really call that undulation anything else. Maybe add your own observation later. Photo with Mavic Mini. Edit. Around the same time, with the same screams, the edge of the thunder front itself, i.e. I was following comfortably during the hour. Let's put a suggestion of a storm cloud as the second picture. Maybe not quite typical either.

At least 5 lightning strikes seen

18.8.2022 at 18.07 - Vaasa (III)
Timo Alanko, Vaasan Andromeda

In the early evening, a thunderstorm front rising from the southwest reached Vöyri. I photographed it from the side from Vaasa until its rain area spread to wet our copter as well. I think there was a cumulus cloud at the edge of the cell. I also looked towards the sea from time to time for water statues. I don't know what those ribs on the right are... The swallows visited many times to marvel at Mavic :)

At least 5 lightning strikes seen

The last days of thunder. Lightning continued after dark in the evening in the direction of Maksamaa archipelago. I took the Mavic into the air one more time. On the first attempt, it drove itself into the wall again. I think I want to retire :). Another company agreed to work and videoed in the direction of the archipelago for a few minutes. I didn't see any lightning, but those three ground lightnings now.

Other storm phenomenon

16.8.2022 at 21.00 - Vaasa (IV)
Timo Alanko, Vaasan Andromeda

Yes, we Vaasa residents are being spoiled now. Earthquakes still developed at the rear edge of the violent thunderstorm front in the direction of Hankmo, just as the Mavic's battery started to run out. Fortunately, there were spare batteries waiting on the ground. The tarphead clutch marveled at the udders sloshing from 120 meters away. After all, they didn't crash with the little Mavic :)

At least 5 lightning strikes seen

16.8.2022 at 17.00 - 19.00 - Vaasa (I)
Timo Alanko, Vaasan Andromeda

A nice thunderstorm developed in the Vaasa region to relieve the hot, sunny day. We were going to visit the Andromeda Meteorite and got stuck in the rain before the village of Sundom. There was quite a commotion when centimeter-sized hailstones started hitting the car in the middle of the heavy rain. When we got to Rii, we admired the incredibly bright cloud rays. From the same cloud, two bolts of lightning struck somewhere very close. After getting back to the city, we continued in the direction of Vöyr and Maksamaa. That's where the helicopter photos come from. I'll put a photo combo...

Lunar corona

16.8.2022 at 02.30 - Vaasa (III)
Timo Alanko, Vaasan Andromeda

Shooting the Starlink chain was not successful, but the Moon and Jupiter were close enough for the 200mm lens. Thin cloud cover created a circle. The terminator was pretty rough too.
