Rare halos

21.11.2022 at 11.14 - 11.47 - Kuusamo, Rukatunturi (IV)
Jani Päiväniemi, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

On Ruka, nice halos could be seen again in the ice fog. Would there be anything else in those sauri when the stump rises up? The lower side suns may be below.

Rare halos

When I peeked out with Iso-Syötte a little after one, I could see a really bright V-shaped halo between the trees and something around it as well. But before I could gather my camera equipment, dress warmly and rush out, the play had already quickly dimmed and "V" was not even visible. I traveled by car and on foot in an area of about 5 kilometers. In different places, the halos were sometimes very bright, but "dim" or not at all. An hour later I ended up in a swamp where the halo was moderately visible. I took a bunch of pictures there, of which I stacked up to 30 pictures. I still handled th...

I don't know the exact time for the beginning and the end. My estimate is between 12:40 and 1:20 p.m. Snow on Pyhätunturi causes ice fog, etc.

Rare halos

20.11.2022 at 11.15 - 11.32 - Kuusamo, Ruka (IV)
Jani Päiväniemi, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

The snowfall started last night and I went for a ride in the Ruka area in case halos were visible. They were seen again. The particularly bright moilasenkaari was nicely displayed and a bunch of others as well. On the opposite side, there was only a small brightening at the anti-sun. I took pictures for stacking, I'll try to get it done sometime.

I was on a photography trip behind Nilsiä Tahkomäki, I was driving a car and I noticed the clouds formed by snow cannons, the sun started peeking through the clouds. A milder halo phenomenon was already formed there, but about 10-15 minutes later, in a slightly different place, the phenomenon intensified and when I changed the place, the phenomenon finally got its full force.

Rare halos

17.11.2022 at 16.51 - 16.52 - Kuusamo, Vuotunki (IV)
Jani Päiväniemi, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

I was driving a car in traffic and Velipoika was driving behind me. Driving to Ruka from Vuoting, the sky cleared and there was a lot of ice in the air. I noticed the pillars appearing in the car's lights and we stopped the cars. It was like the last time again, with a cell phone as the only means of observation and rarities visible. Maintenance can examine the forms when I don't recognize them all.

Rare halos

A rather impressive 22° ring in the moonlight, and sometimes a dim 9° ring also stood out. It would have been nice to follow this even longer, but the sleep debt started to weigh on me. When I got home, it seemed that the 22° overhead arc was also included.

Bright halo phenomena covering the sky

8.11.2022 at 10.39 - 10.51 - Kuusamo, Rukatunturi (V)
Jani Päiväniemi, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

An absolutely incredible set! My wife and I were coming from Kuusamo from a shopping trip when our attention was drawn to a bright halo opposite the sun, so I stopped the car and had the sense to leave. Just before the stop, the boy sent a message that some bright halos can be seen. Maintenance can check and mark the forms. I'm still on the road. Edit, I added 2 processed images, the second a panoramic image.

Halokausi opened for me, albeit only with cellphone-level pictures. I haven't managed to be outside at the right time for several years, but now it happened to be a sunny day and snow cannons were made on the slopes of Ruka. Some joy from sick leave.

Rare halos

7.11.2022 at 19.13 - 22.22 - Kuusamo, Rukatunturi (IV)

While I was at work, the ice fog caused by the snowfall made a great halo display throughout the evening. The arc under the moon was quite bright. When looking at the pillars in the early evening, the upper side suns were clearly visible. Looks great, yes. The northern lights also appeared on top of that.

It was supposed to be completely cloudy, but the sky cleared towards night and it rained a little like snow. Halos could be seen on the moon, of which there are a couple of pictures. Ps. The camera clock is apparently in summer time.
