Active aurora band

2.10.2022 at 23.50 - 00.45 - Senja, Ersfjord, Norja (III)
Atte Ahola, Ursa (Etelä-Suomi)

When the evening came, we went to look for a gap in the cloud cover, and we found one. At first the arc rose from the horizon very dim but colorful and then it rose overhead and then brightened strongly. Then the arch also activated with fast movements and shapes. Finally, the clouds rolled over us, ending the show. The location is perhaps the most famous beach on Senja island, Tungeneset. You shoot amateur-level photos that turned out too dark. Maybe the next trip will be better.

Active aurora band

30.9.2022 at 22.30 - 01.00 - Senja, Mefjordvær, Norja (III)
Atte Ahola, Ursa (Etelä-Suomi)

As evening fell, we moved from the accommodation to a nearby hill. At this point, a dim arc shone on the horizon. Kaari started to brighten and to live peacefully. Finally, the arch rose above the head and began to live properly, creating fine and sharp shapes. Again, you take rudimentary amateur photos, too dark photos with a lot of noise. The moonless night also made filming difficult.

Quiet aurora band

28.9.2022 at 00.00 - 00.45 - Torsken, Norja (II)
Atte Ahola, Ursa (Etelä-Suomi)

Expectations for the evening were high, because we had arrived on the island of Senja to the wonderful scenery. The sky was quite clear, so we headed to the pre-planned shooting location. At the end of the Gryllefjord. The place turned out to be a very dark place when the moon did not illuminate the landscape. Perhaps it was too dark because the mountains couldn't be photographed as the shadows were visible without burning the sky. The northern lights were surprisingly quiet that night before the clouds arrived. I expected that the lights would have risen over the fjord and I would have go...

Quiet aurora arc

16.1.2022 at 02.26 - 02.41 - Hauho
Atte Ahola

I went through 14.1.-16.1. photos of the Northern Lights of the weekend and I woke up to the light pillar of light in the pictures about northwest, i.e. in the picture on the left. To my recollection, it was dimly visible. Now I am interested to know its origin. Could it be a Steve light phenomenon? The pictures would show to have a reddish / purple toned top unless my eyes were completely lying. I made a timelapse animation from the pictures. I am an amateur in their making so apologies. Also, the image quality is not ideal for magnification. The images have only been edited so that I have dr...

Quiet aurora band

2.12.2021 at 22.40 - 01.00 - Pukkila (II)
Atte Ahola

We headed to a familiar place for fear of the clouds because the northern lights looked good. We arrived at the place of use at ten surfaces, when a dim arc was already visible. Less than an hour and an arc began to strengthen and then life clearly in front of the eyes. Again, I was excited to see the northern lights for the first time. Every time just as exciting when you don’t know what kind of show you see. Unfortunately, light pollution spoiled the experience a bit and in the pictures it bothers itself quite a bit. But I am satisfied; that I even got pictures like this. Apparently, the cam...

Auroras seen through breaks in the clouds

6.11.2021 at 19.50 - 23.00 - Hauho (III)
Atte Ahola

We were in Hauho for the weekend and there were known gaps in the cloud cover by Saturday night. And the possibility of northern lights. On Saturday early in the evening at about 7:45 p.m., a guy came in to tell you that now you can see the northern lights. No more stuff in the pile and I run to the scene. So late for the show that ended when I got to the beach. Then I photographed and waited for a few hours and something dimly appeared. The clouds, of course, bothered me again when something started to appear.

Auroras seen through breaks in the clouds

31.10.2021 at 22.30 - 01.00 - Pöytyä (I)
Atte Ahola

Hopefully we left Vantaa to drive to the table to find a cloud gap and possibly a northern lights. On a quiet lake there was a sound of swans. The clouds messed up a bit when there were vertical pillars on the camera.

Quiet aurora band

17.10.2021 at 22.25 - 22.35 - Pukkila (II)
Atte Ahola

During the day I followed the indicators and other observations / interpretations. We set out to look for a cloud in Eastern Uusimaa. Such was found, and at first a wide matte arch extending to a rather high one was visible, and then a northern lights belt began to be clearly visible to the naked eye. Personally, this was the coolest show I’ve seen, meaning there’s not much experience yet. Namely, these were the first to really see with clear eyes. Now I even got some kind of pictures of them. But there is room for improvement.

Quiet aurora arc

22.9.2021 at 23.50 - 01.30 - Karkkila (II)
Atte Ahola

I went to work in the evening as soon as I got to Loukkumäki in Karkkila. I had followed the metrics and other observations / interpretations in the Facebook Northern Lights Firefighters group throughout the day. So with a hopeful mind on the move. After climbing the hill, I was looking for the northern direction of the air and started shooting there and adjusting the camera. There was a dim arc that could not be distinguished by the eyes. Then a little radiation began to appear under the eyes. I hadn’t gotten to photograph the northern lights before so this time I went completely practicing a...
