Pearl clouds

28.1.2023 at 20.55 - 21.13 - Laitila (IV)
Pirjo Koski, Porin Karhunvartijat

On an epic pearly cloud evening, I decided to brave the freezing wind and go see if I could hear pearly clouds. Well, there was something about the moon. Pastel-colored and reddish, slightly shimmering clouds. Hmm. I took the pictures and watched the cloud for a quarter of an hour. It didn't move at all during that time, the other clouds did move across the sky. No clouds were visible on the radar, but that doesn't necessarily tell the whole truth. The eye could see pastel colors even now, and in the twilight a few hours earlier had seen an absolutely divine pearly cloud show, which co...

Pearl clouds

Esa Pekka Isomursu, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

For a while in Oulu, you could also see fine pearls, albeit in a rather limited area. Around 16:35 the colors were still so dim that I didn't even dig out the camera at first, but five minutes later they brightened. Type II would be a clear case, but are the white cloud streaks Type I clouds and is the horizon pearly brown or otherwise just shades of sunset? The sun has set half an hour earlier to the left of the picture.

There were so many other clouds ahead that I doubted my own observation at first, but the observations of others confirmed my assumption that the clouds were nacreous.

After sunset, a few unassuming pale beaches could be seen in the sky, but they were suspiciously bright. Surprisingly, they developed quite "real" nacreous clouds. Some of them hid behind the trees so that only the color was visible. I took the best pictures of the part of pearls that could be seen on the balcony and they were boring. In addition, the strongest golden yellow brown was left behind the trees in the shooting direction, out of reach of the camera. Here are a couple of pictures though. I put the boxes according to what I saw, although I didn't get pictures of everything.

Pearl clouds

29.1.2023 at 16.15 - Kurikka ja Jurva (III)
Timo Alanko, Vaasan Andromeda

We went to visit the graves in Kurika. On the way back, Viinatie even got a job. A single pastel red water ice cloud was hidden almost directly overhead behind the low clouds. Car to the side of the road and waiting for the clouds to give even a little mercy. It was awkward. After reaching Jurva, it looked like there was possibly an acid cloud in the direction of Teuvan-Karijoki. It's a shame that the helicopters are limited to 120 meters. I would have liked to lift Mavicci above that cloud to take a peek at the views :(

Pearl clouds

26.1.2023 at 17.50 - 17.55 - Kuopio (II)

In connection with the wonderful sunset/in the aftermath, there were pearly clouds, a little poorly captured by the camera, but the flickering was still visible with the naked eye.

Pirjo Koski, Porin Karhunvartijat

Well huhuhuh. Fortunately, I peeked out the kitchen window. Pearly clouds were spread from the south all the way to the west, but these two glowing freaks stole all the attention. Incredible colors!

In the morning sky, shimmering pearlescent streaks, including some quite bright ones. They were partially covered in orange-colored mammatus-type middle clouds.

Pearl clouds

Marko Myllyniemi, Lakeuden Ursa

I had to wake up exceptionally early for Sunday morning, so at the same time I checked the window of the library room for a possible pearly situation. In the southeast sky, you could see pearly brown and the stench of acid clouds, so I had to get dressed and go yard by yard with the camera to shoot. I would characterize it as a mediocre play, which was slightly disturbed by the usual Cloudiness. The last picture is a panorama of three pictures.

While driving, these pearly clouds were visible. Fortunately, the direction was a place, j osta could be seen very well. Only the phone's camera was available.

Essi Huhtamäki, Porin Karhunvartijat

The first nacreous clouds I've seen. Unfortunately, the picture didn't work out, because I was just visiting an Airbnb apartment at the time, whose loft windows I couldn't open. The clouds were visible from there, but they would not have been visible from street level because of the buildings.

I was closing the blinds on the kitchen window when I noticed bright clouds curling up on the western horizon and went to the other end of the house to make sure from the fireplace room window: pearls could be seen there. All you have to do is put on your clothes, take your bag and go to the back of the plot. The first picture was converted from a RAW file, so the tones are roughly correct, but they were shot directly as a jpg, so there wasn't much room for adjustment... A handsome spectacle with both water ice and acid clouds. It just took a little too late to shoot, half an hour earlier ...

Pearl clouds

Kristian Rastas, Tampereen Ursa

After a spectacular sunset, a handsome pearly cloud appeared in the western sky against a darker cloud layer. This biggest one was visible for about 25 minutes. Smaller gauzes were visible after this.

My first picture of pearly clouds. The active team of the bear watchers 'awakened' the visibility of this phenomenon, so I thought I'd try to photograph these colorful clouds myself.

Pearl clouds

28.1.2023 at 16.10 - 16.50 - Pori, Kiukainen (II)

Followed on the drive and filmed through the car window. From 4:10 p.m. there were the most beautiful colored pearls. At the end of the journey, white strings of pearls.

After waking up from a nap, I opened the blackout curtain and the first sight was a very bright and colorful nacreous cloud. You couldn't take pictures with a cell phone without burning the bulb. So a few snaps with the Sony RX10, put on a jacket and look for a better observation spot. There are two bridges on the bank of Kokemäenjoki, from which I got better shots. The city's silhouette can be seen in the pictures, while I couldn't get a view of the horizon anywhere. It occurred to me that I wish I had been in Yyteri right then.

Now the pearlers were able to surprise badly. The coldness of the upper atmosphere really shouldn't be enough. Perhaps the prettiest pearls I've seen, though. And on a shopping trip, only take the helicopter with you. A wonderful splendor of pastel colors that the helicopter's camera could not capture. Especially the blue tones are exhausting in the pictures. It would definitely have been the coolest place :(

Pearl clouds

Antti Rinne, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

I've had enough of these pearly clouds. This time, at the beginning of dusk, you could see light blue gauzes like night clouds high up in the sky. As dusk fell, the side of the sunset became more and more reddish and against the darkening sky you could see really bright pastel-colored clouds. Unfortunately, I didn't have the SLR camera at hand and the phone camera couldn't capture these most beautiful colors.

Matti Helin, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

It was a wonderful show at the entrance. Up to about 20 degrees like clear night clouds and here and there pinkish greenish single clouds. Unfortunately, only the lower clouds came rushing back and the whole show dried up.
