Active aurora band

22.9.2022 at 22.30 - 01.30 - Kittilä (III)
Satu Juvonen, Ursa (Itä-Suomi)

This is probably a basic set in Lapland. The great northern lights, whose brightness was accentuated when the Moon was hidden and there is no wasted light in the nearby countries. The fires stayed pretty low. On the shore of Pallasjärvi at the Punaisenhieka hut, there were several wonderers and the atmosphere was devout, the lake was calm, the silence and darkness almost perfect.

Milky way

27.8.2022 at 00.30 - Lieksa (III)
Satu Juvonen, Joensuun Seulaset

The Milky Way could be seen nicely in Pokkaniemi of Suomunjärvi in Patvinsuo. There was no tripod on the trip, but we managed with driftwood and a backpack. There were more people in traffic than usual. When it got dark, the travelers quieted down in their tents, only Kuika's mournful wailing could be heard on the lake.

Rocket-related clouds

13.8.2022 at 01.55 - 01.59 - Lieksa (IV)
Satu Juvonen, Joensuun Seulaset

In the hope of star flights, I was on the shore of Lake Suomunjärvi with my camera. For an unnecessarily long time, I initially wondered about the strange traveler in the sky before I realized that this clear and silent, strangely moving fog/gas cloud surrounded by a steadily advancing plane seems to be someone other than an ordinary satellite or airplane. The camera was filming the series elsewhere, I turned the direction and was able to record the rest of the flight. It quickly became clear from the Sky Watcher that it was a rocket launch. The Perseid catch remained thin, but this was a spec...

Bright night shining clouds

9.8.2022 at 23.30 - 02.30 - Joensuu (IV)
Satu Juvonen, Joensuun Seulaset

Wondering the August night in Pielinen. The illuminating night clouds were gentle and gesturing in the evening, expanded, brightened and took shape as the morning dawned.

All-sky aurora

13.3.2022 at 20.00 - 02.15 - Kontiolahti (V)
Satu Juvonen, Joensuun Seulaset

At eight in the evening, my girl and I watched the bright northern lights from the car window despite the glow of the street lamps. At first I thought I would skip photography this time, but I still left at night after one with the camera in a nearby field. Northern lights would spread from the sky in every direction. In the end, there was a really strong throbbing in the fire, it was best to watch it on the ground.

Active aurora band

25.1.2022 at 20.20 - 23.55 - Lieksa (III)
Satu Juvonen, Joensuun Seulaset

Nice replay in the landscapes of Koli. While walking to the destination, I tested the camera settings, and that’s where the SAR arc was revealed. Mostly visible was a soft hazy gauze as well as an arch that brightened a few times. The lights were quite high, but the movement was calm. A blue spot in the sky comes from the hotel lights. Nothing the best place to bring is not to describe the night sky phenomena but good for winter feeling :)

A delicate pearl after sunset. No pearl colors were displayed this time. It was nice to ski in those colors from Niilanpää to Kiilopää.

Milky way

5.9.2021 at 23.50 - Lieksa
Satu Juvonen, Joensuun Seulaset

What a wonderful starry night. The Milky Way was visible almost bright, the planets low on the forest. The loons cried, the pond steamed, the cold crept under the summer coat. Panorama of six images. One minute exposure with tracking.

Bright night shining clouds

30.7.2021 at 00.30 - 02.30 - Pori (IV)
Satu Juvonen, Joensuun Seulaset

So far, the only documented night cloud night for me. Great bright shapes, albeit fairly smooth ripples. The big bright belts and gauze became the impression that a fabric that had been left a little wrinkled had been pulled over the cover of the sky.

Partial solar eclipse

10.6.2021 at 12.50 - 15.20 - Joensuu (IV)
Satu Juvonen, Joensuun Seulaset

Members of the Joensuu Seulaste had the opportunity to watch the eclipse in the Botania Garden. In the foliage of the tree, one could afford to choose a larger and smaller needle hole for the image of the sun with its parachutes. The eclipse also had to be recorded with follow-up, it will probably be completed sometime later.

Milky way

9.4.2021 at 00.10 - Lieksa (IV)
Satu Juvonen

Goodbye dark sky! It is only a few hours a night dark, a point of summer light. The Milky Way was wonderfully visible in Suomunjärvi in Patvinsuo. A galaxy image with tracking and a stack of minute exposures of five. Polar sighting is hard to do, I can’t find the North Star through that loop out of that abundance. Well, it kind of works that way when you don’t light for a long time. There were a few retrol lenses in the bag. They made the stars bubble nicely.

Milky way

12.3.2021 at 00.20 - Lieksa (IV)
Satu Juvonen

Winter Milky Way in Suomunjärvi The night promised clear and the frost had already eased a bit. A decent starry sky was sad. I headed to Patvinsuo Suomunjärvi, I pulled the rig to Kaunisniemi. Despair and depression meant to strike, when before on such a dark horizon a new shockingly bright light shone, either this place is lost too! Fortunately, the torch went out before midnight and even the clouds dissipated after a short wait. I took a few shots of the Milky Way with a follow-up. Northern lights are surprisingly often seen here even if there is no strange activity. Even now, there was so m...
