Binocular comet ZTF

26.1.2023 at 23.40 - Laukaa (III)
Jesse Kyytinen, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

The comet was easy to find and even the tail stands out in the picture.

Pearl clouds

25.1.2023 at 16.15 - Kempele (II)
Jesse Kyytinen, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

As the clouds receded a little, pearls of some kind were revealed from behind the western horizon. The view got a little better after taking the picture.

Aurora rays

31.3.2022 at 22.40 - 01.15 - Mänttä-Vilppula (II)
Jesse Kyytinen, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

After the northern lights storm in the morning, expectations were still high for the evening. The catch of the night was only even weaker than the previous night, only occasionally faint rays were visible on the horizon. More peculiar phenomena tonight were the slow-moving gauze spots seen early in the night and the strong pink glow over the rays at the end of the night. Admittedly, neither of them was distinguished by eye. The location was not quite ideal as the very local cloud thrived directly above it most of the time. 1.15 when the sky went all the way to the cloud again, it didn't se...

Quiet aurora band

30.3.2022 at 23.45 - 03.00 - Jämsä (II)
Jesse Kyytinen, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

The predictions promised a hard-class Show for the morning hours, but apart from a small moment after one o'clock, almost nothing was visible and in the morning the lights faded completely. After going out to sleep after a night out, of course I saw a sharp rise in the density meter, and at the time of the sunrise, the storm would have started when the sky was too bright.

A ring on a sunny spring day

Quiet aurora band

12.3.2022 at 23.40 - Siikalatva (II)
Jesse Kyytinen, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

During the drive, the northern lights brightened for a moment so much that I bothered to stop to take a documentary.

Half-sky auroras

12.3.2022 at 03.15 - Kittilä (III)
Jesse Kyytinen, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

The cloud cover opened at night and the stripes of the three countries flashed almost all over the sky.

Half-sky auroras

10.3.2022 at 21.00 - 01.00 - Kittilä (IV)
Jesse Kyytinen, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

In the evening, the sky cleared promisingly so I decided to head in a light-free direction as the northern lights looked promising. Just as the evening got dark, only the clouds started to come on and apparently still just north in the direction where I had just driven. Near Tepasto, only greenery could be seen beneath the cloud, right on the horizon where Ylläs would have had reasonably bright and bright lights. So I decided to drive in that direction in the hope that there would be the best chance of being under a clear sky from now on. It was as I approached Lake Ylläsjärvi that the sky beg...

Fogbow

8.3.2022 at 15.04 - Muonio (III)
Jesse Kyytinen, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

During one elevator ascent, an arc appeared at the top of the low cloud. I guess it's a fog arc, even though it wasn't actually a fog cloud, but the lower edge was about 400m high.

Several halo forms

8.3.2022 at 15.00 - 17.00 - Muonio (II)
Jesse Kyytinen, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

A ring was visible in the evening sky.

Half-sky auroras

5.3.2022 at 20.30 - 02.00 - Jyväskylä (IV)
Jesse Kyytinen, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

I was heading north to the northern lights, but they came south again before that. At half past nine, a really spectacular show lit up over half the sky and even after that, the sky green at every point where there were no clouds in the sky. The cell phone didn't really want to focus up when shooting, so I didn't get a picture of the corona right. The first and second images in a different order when the moment of shooting.

Quiet aurora band

12.2.2022 at 00.45 - 01.15 - Jyväskylä (II)
Jesse Kyytinen, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

This winter, northern lights seem to be this way in the south almost every clear night. At one o'clock, the dim arc brightened into a comfortably lively belt. Images after the main image in chronological order.

All-sky aurora

10.2.2022 at 21.00 - 23.00 - Jyväskylä (V)
Jesse Kyytinen, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

When the evening was dark, already in the high sky, relatively dim northern lights were visible in the moonlight, but suddenly at 21:20, a proper firing started. At first I wondered about the individual rays directed towards the zenith around the sky, but soon there was a rush to tune the stand upright as the belt brightened in my eyes from the west and suddenly Korona flickered above and a bright active arc south of the sky (Figure 1). In the west of that great brightening belt, I missed the pictures. The northern lights were clearly exceptionally to the south, very rarely are the northern li...

Pintahalo

3.2.2022 at 23.00 - Jyväskylä (II)
Jesse Kyytinen, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

Ice had fallen from the sky on the car's windshield. I noticed that I took the first picture so much from the top of the glass that the rest of the ice in it interfered with the view of the halo. I then reached closer to the dashboard to get a picture through the part of the glass where there was only ice mist. In that quilted clothes, I just managed to poke the wiper on the mustache before and missed a better picture. 22 ° ring that probably is?

Lunar corona

15.1.2022 at 23.00 - 00.00 - Laukaa (III)
Jesse Kyytinen, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

In the clouds that occasionally collapsed in front of the northern lights, quite handsome circles developed at times.

Auroras seen through breaks in the clouds

15.1.2022 at 20.45 - 00.30 - Laukaa (III)
Jesse Kyytinen, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

Throughout the evening, despite the harsh forecasts, only mostly surprisingly high but dim rays were visible. The clouds that fell over from time to time still messed up for their part, coming on just for the time when the fires finally brightened up for a while. It is certainly not easy to find a day when more people in Finland have been using northern lights, which news site had glowed with the evening's predictions and the previous night, and surely the enthusiasm for nature brought by Korona has made the number of enthusiasts higher than in the hard northern lights of previous years. A...

Several halo forms

15.1.2022 at 19.45 - 23.45 - Laukaa (II)
Jesse Kyytinen, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

22r visible throughout the evening and momentarily also a pretty horizon ring with side sides. Mr. almost lost time when I noticed it and rushed to pick up a wider tube from the backpack I had left in the car.

Half-sky auroras

14.1.2022 at 21.00 - 02.00 - Jyväskylä (IV)
Jesse Kyytinen, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

In the evening I noticed that the activity of the northern lights was already somewhat elevated, but when the forecasts showed the peak figures until the following evening, you would be surprised to get across the sky after eleven. For a while, it seemed that the fire would not brighten any further until 0:20 on Saturday, a wide and clear cannon fire began. Even better was promised, after one o'clock such a Korona exploded on top, and I don't remember seeing it at the heights of Central Finland since 2015, if at all. The moonlight did not flatten the brightness of the fires either, and...

Several halo forms

7.1.2022 at 10.20 - 13.30 - Jyväskylä (II)
Jesse Kyytinen, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

The Central Finnish winter day can't get any nicer than that. Half a meter of soft frost, the sun was shining and a nice frost of less than 15 degrees. Halos were also visible.
