All-sky aurora

28.8.2021 at 00.30 - 01.10 - Oulu (V)
Pertti Rautiainen

I got a familiar message on my phone that the northern lights are visible. Nothing but a familiar place on the shores of Lake Kuivasjärvi. Quite bright northern lights were visible in much of the whole sky, in addition to them a little brighter bands from time to time.

Active aurora band

28.2.2019 at 22.30 - 23.00 - Oulu (III)
Pertti Rautiainen

Based on the magnetometer readings, I missed the best northern lights during my sauna trip. Something I got described after all. The red parts of the belt in particular moved very quickly, blurring in shots of up to half a second. The last two images in the Narnia colors of the Nik software package - in addition to the bright part, much dimmer details emerge.

One halo form

The solar pillar is a clear case, but what about that bulge higher up in it - a cloud or the best? The second image is the same as the first, but processed with Niki's Color Efex program by placing just about all the knobs to the southeast.

Pintahalo

23.1.2019 at 14.31 - Oulu (II)
Pertti Rautiainen

With the naked eye, I didn’t notice any side suns, but already in the Lightroom, there were signs of a full 22-degree circle, this part on the sea ice below the Sun. The tools in the Nik program collection might seem to find something else beyond the side suns, or are these the artifacts produced by the program? And a wider-angle lens should have been included.

Corona

22.1.2019 at 12.54 - 12.58 - Oulu
Pertti Rautiainen

This is a bit difficult to classify: color circles were visible around the sun, but the most spectacular part consisted of shadows cast by the power plant’s smoke rods.

Total lunar eclipse

21.1.2019 at 07.58 - Oulu (IV)
Pertti Rautiainen

There were 28 degrees below zero in Oulu, which is why I couldn't go on to describe the end of the eclipse. This super blood bunny was handsomely visible.

All-sky aurora

8.10.2018 at 00.07 - 23.50 - Oulu (V)
Pertti Rautiainen

I went to photograph the northern lights in two installments, first from 9pm to 10pm, again at 11pm. Quite a nice and varied light show, but not as glorious as the great northern lights that were three years earlier. The clouds shining with light pollution brought a small aesthetic addition to some of the images.

Rare halos

11.4.2018 at 14.00 - Oulu
Pertti Rautiainen

Halos erupted throughout the day. The first of the pictures from the yard of the University of Oulu before my lecture, the rest after the working day (what did I miss?) At my regular place on the shore of Lake Kuivasjärvi. Of the few identifications I’m not even sure about based on the comparison images, can maintenance be fixed, removed or added? ADDITION: Lasse Nurminen (thank you Lasse!) Has br-processed some of my pictures, I add both one sample and a stack here, both in reverse format. Based on these, I would argue that the 35-degree tire appears in the pictures.

Half-sky auroras

5.9.2016 at 22.38 - Oulu (IV)
Pertti Rautiainen

That is, shortly after half past eleven, I noticed a northern lights in the sky. At my own observation site on the shores of Lake Kuivasjärvi in Oulu, there was some mist in the air, but the most important ones are probably conveyed from those pictures. The last one is an HDR image pulled quite a bit by a sword, which has little documentary value;)

Bright night shining clouds

13.8.2016 at 01.10 - Oulu (IV)
Pertti Rautiainen

Had to photograph asses. The pair saw it with the naked eye, but on my camera they dodged. Instead, there were handsome night clouds in the northern sky. Attached are a couple of normal images and one play with HDR.

One halo form

The mobile phone image 22 from the backpack leaves no room for post-processing, the essential is conveyed.

Transit of mercury

9.5.2016 at 14.15 - Oulu (IV)
Pertti Rautiainen

A few pictures of Mercury's overrun. Images from a photo collage with a telephoto lens, then a few images through the Celestron Department of Astronomy. In a couple of pictures, a bit of blatant emphasis on details.

One halo form

7.5.2016 at 11.00 - Kiuruvesi (I)
Pertti Rautiainen

Handsome 22 ° ring and aircraft sealing pad with shadows. The image is unprocessed when the correct version of Lightroom is not included in the trip and the intentions of the mobile version do not open.

Aurora rays

3.5.2016 at 00.30 - Oulu (II)
Pertti Rautiainen

Even in Oulu, it even surpassed the taste of northern lights. They struggle to look white against a blue sky. The latter image is rather blatantly "overdeveloped" to dig into details.

Half-sky auroras

14.4.2016 at 23.00 - Oulu (IV)
Pertti Rautiainen

The northern lights were a bit dim at first and I was already packing the shots. On the way home, however, they brightened, and had to return running to the scene on the shores of Lake Kuivasjärvi.

Sun

14.4.2016 at 12.00 - Oulu (IV)

Handsome is a comma. Attached image of the University of Oulu's old Celestron 14-inch rotoscope and Canon 60D, focusing proved to be a bit challenging, atmospheric vibrations didn't help.

Rare halos

21.1.2016 at 21.05 - Oulu (IV)

An elliptical perimeter was visible around the Moon. Of course, the moon is not yet full, but the circle was symmetrical anyway. It was so frosty outside that suddenly just a camera on the backyard tripod, a few pictures, and back inside. And just twenty minutes later, the perimeter was practically a circle.

Airglow clearly visible

25.12.2015 at 22.15 - Mänttä-Vilppula, Pohjaslahti (II)
Pertti Rautiainen

A little reworked from the stashes of the archives. That is, in the photos taken in a very dark place of observation (the nearest street lights are a couple of kilometers away, and even there there are few of them), weak streaks appeared, which I have strongly emphasized here with an image processing program. Reminds me a lot of the pictures I've seen of aurora (e.g. Astromy Picture of the Day, 2016 March 22). I haven't seen these in pictures taken on other nights in the same place with similar settings. I couldn't find the section air glow on the form - Is it missing, or did I jus...

All-sky aurora

7.10.2015 at 21.30 - Oulu (V)
Pertti Rautiainen

Yesterday’s northern lights were reasonable, but they were only on display compared to tonight. At its best, the whole sky was covered with northern lights, the 14-millimeter lens once offered an unnecessarily narrow viewing angle. There were dozens of people watching and photographing on the shores of Lake Kuivasjärvi.

Half-sky auroras

The moon and fog reduced contrast and sharpness.
