The Finnish Meteorological Institute promised cloudless weather for the west coast. It's a very rare situation that the west coast is cloudless, but most of the rest of Finland is under a cloud cover. The aurora forecast was quite a gamble, but when cloudless is offered and the moon is small enough, you have to take the opportunity. Around 19:00 straight from work after a 12-hour shift towards the bonga place. Of course, the purpose was to "visit" quickly. On the way out, around 19:20, the first lights surprised me and a bright green dance took place in the sky. There wasn't really a p...

The expected CME of course arrived in the morning of 15.2. and the gauges screamed red all day. Of course, it was promised to be cloudy in the evening, but at sunset it was still completely cloudless and the gauges were still red. I rushed to the staging area only to find out that the army had reserved the staging area for its own use for heavy duty firefighting, which resulted in a quick transition to plan B and a half hour drive to another staging area. As soon as dusk began to fall around 6:30 p.m., fires began to stand out in the sky and after a few minutes you noticed that they were every...

On the eve of Valentine's Day, there was speculation that a CME could possibly be on its way. The cloudless sky was tempting to go to the beach, even though the clock rang for work at 2:50 in the morning. Great windless weather. The aurora borealis could be seen low on the horizon and sometimes it got a little lively, but all in all, the trip was a great way to feel the shooting weather and take landscape pictures.

On Thursday evening, it was promised to be cloudless for a few hours for a long time, although the forecasts changed, it had to be directed to the nearest observation point. Be that as it may, there was indeed a cloudless sky. The observation spot was not really from the best end, but near the light pollution of the factories, besides, the moon rising above the horizon took most of the aurora borealis. It was quite difficult to observe them with the eyes, but the camera's cell stuck better and from them you could conclude that there is indeed life in the sky. Up to three separate arcs, wit...

The last chance of the winter vacation to describe the northern lights and the comet. After tonight, the moon will start to illuminate too much and with a very high probability the clouds will spoil everything. A nice clear sky, but a freezing wind blowing from the north. I was waiting for the northern lights, but they remained very faint. The moon actually ate the blade from all the change in the arc. Around 8:45 p.m., a little bit of life could be seen in the sky, but the arc remained low. Moving from right to left at the best time were surprisingly high purple pillars considering the shallo...

On the last night photography trip, when we arrived at the beach, a wonderful sunset happened. Once, I wished I had been there earlier, because I only wanted to see the last moments of the wonderful sky. Pearly clouds in the direction of the sunset, I think.

Finally, we were promised a cloudless winter vacation and got to work on bonga. After arriving at the bongause place, a test picture of the sky and a nice-looking arc was there in the sky. I set the camera on the shore to take pictures and went a little way to the fire place, to build a fire from the nice embers someone left. After some time, I went to check the camera and already saw on the camera screen that there were special stripes above the northern lights arc. I interpreted them on the spot as air glow. I went to change places on the beach, the purpose was to try to get some kind of pic...

The year 2023 started with cloudless weather. After a couple of days of rain, almost the entire landscape had turned gray and ugly, and even the aurora borealis forecasts didn't promise very bad fires. At most the arc was to be expected, besides the moon loomed at 70% of its size, illuminating the landscape. A choice had to be made, whether to heat up the sauna or head outside into the strong wind. It wasn't an easy choice, but I had to visit it to photograph the first aurora borealis of the year. Well, once again it was worth pulling yourself up from the corner of the sofa and going o...

In the middle of Christmas preparations, a little early evening visit to the beach, when the sky is cloudless for a long time. The aurora borealis values were also on point during the day, but they died down after dark. Yes, that arch there on the horizon poked and sometimes even a little bit of life. There was a weird streak in the pictures, probably some kind of cloud that the eyes couldn't detect. When I took the first picture, I thought at first that the dunes were caught in the picture, but upon closer inspection I interpreted them as clouds.

The last night of riding the Utsjoki by myself this season. The northern lights were known and the whole day had been completely cloudy. As soon as it got dark, I started jumping outside to see if the clouds had disappeared. The Finnish Meteorological Institute promised a cloudless day from 21:00 onwards and that's how it went again. As if by magic, at 20:50 the clouds cleared. And what a show it was with the whole sky full of fire. Unbelievable, how at the time of the new moon in the middle of the desert you don't need a flashlight, but you can walk by the light of the northern lights...

Another northern lights day at Utsjoki. This time, the gauges even promised a reasonable chance of a fire. At first, the clouds seemed to come and spoil the job, but we got really nice lights in half the sky. Of course, the best warps came after 01:00, when I had already taken the camera inside. Then the fires escaped from the firmament to the southern sky and arranged a proper dance. I'm happy to just look at these from the window. The action camera was able to record even the best part of the show. Timelapse from 23:58 -> around 04:00.

Let's add a bit of an already outdated observation here, last week there was a splendid blaze on Utsjoki several evenings. Due to weak connections, it was not possible to add these here in a timely manner. For years I had dreamed of going to a cabin that I knew at least from pictures, on the edge of the Kaldoaiv wilderness area. Even the nearest road was 5 kilometers away. A perfect cottage in the middle of nowhere. Now that in the summer I noticed that it was free for the perfect aurora borealis time, I started to organize an autumn holiday in the right place and the dream of a trip to th...

It's been a long time since we were able to light fires in this part of the west coast. The previous night went wrong because the beach was completely closed just when the fire appeared. However, this time we were lucky. Before leaving for the evening shift, I packed the camera backpack in the car, because I had a feeling that something might be visible in the sky in the coming night. Just when the work shift ended around 11:15 p.m., it started to seem like the clouds are finally leaving Kokkola. I was thinking about a possible place to ride and I thought of driving inland, if there was a ...

After a cloudy weekend, I desperately went to look for solace in the form of using the northern lights, when the cloud maps and values promised a reasonable chance of catching it. After the aurora borealis died down, I waited for a while, lighting the northern sky, and I thought it would be like this. I went to pick up the camera backpack a short distance away, at the same time pressing the remote shutter button in my pocket. Slipping on the beach stones, waving a flashlight, I saw a quick flash in the corner of my eye, but I thought it was just the flash of a lighthouse coming from the sea. W...

After the cloudy weather of the weekend, we went to get a refund for the repo photos that were not taken. After all, it promised reasonably good weather. When I got to the beach to wait for dark, I noticed that the aurora meters promised good things. I described the curve in the sky and at 00:15 the wait was rewarded, a decent fire lit up in the sky. It didn't last long and the clouds started gathering, but I was happy to pack my backpack and head home.

The sky was nice and even though the gauges didn't really promise anything, I thought of heading towards the beach. Vaisu aurora borealis, which was distinguishable even with the naked eye. Sometimes even a little life in the arc. The reflections were so well in place after the water line receded that I would have wished for a little bigger lights.

A wonderful foggy morning. I had to practice a bit of video shooting with the Drone, but when I got it in the air, it was good for describing the landscape. An amazing halo was visible throughout the flight. Yes, autumn is a good time to be on vacation!

I had already packed my camera backpack so that I would try the opening of the northern lights season after 11 pm when I get off work. After the sun went down, a terrible flash began as the thunder rolled over the sea. After the end of working hours, the ankle is straight towards the observation point and the flash on the horizon was continuous. 10 kilometers before the destination, I thought I'd take a few pictures, because it started to look like the flash was fading. That's how it happened, the best parts were already gone, but I still got a few pictures. Unfortunately, there were t...

Nice night shift to work. Beautiful fog practically all night, through which the sun rose magnificently. The night was crowned by a wonderful arc of fog around Oulaiten.

The day off was known and although the wake-up call in the morning was 3pm, it looked cloudless when it looked cloudy as the northern lights also seemed reasonable. As for the northern lights, it was entirely up to the racks, and there was no more strange life besides the arch. Thus, the observation is marked as a landscape constellation. The journey began a little differently, when we were the first to dig out another passing game by a local photographer whose terrain had run out and the journey had ended. After all, a decent photographer is the first to dig out a tripod, tune in to the camer...
