Binocular comet ZTF

10.2.2023 at 20.00 - 00.00 - Uurainen (III)
Aleksi Ruotsila, Jyväskylän Sirius

Comet C/2022 E3 (ZTF) finally got a little more than black sky and stars in its background. Now it coincided with Mars in front of the dust clouds of the Taurus constellation. The largest and darkest dark nebula in the image is Barnard 22. The larger image was captured with a zoom lens and camera optics, a tighter crop with a small telescope and an astro camera (specs in the technical data). Attached are also a couple of videos compiled from the evening's photos.

Comet with naked eye coma ZTF

29.1.2023 at 02.30 - 06.06 - Uurainen (III)
Aleksi Ruotsila, Jyväskylän Sirius

Sacrificing a reasonable sleep pattern and a night's sleep, I left early in the morning to photograph this comet when I had the chance (weekend, moon setting, a suitable opening in the clouds). The comet's tail was a fairly steadily moving jet during this viewing interval, while a couple of days ago when I was photographing it there was much more life. Undeniably an interesting and dynamic object to photograph. For the comet, almost 3 hours of exposure, and for the stars I used the same photos from just an hour ago.

Comet with naked eye coma ZTF

27.1.2023 at 00.00 - 04.00 - Äänekoski (III)
Aleksi Ruotsila, Jyväskylän Sirius

I drove to the slightly more remote Bortle 3 location to photograph this comet. The cloud rafts teased for a long time, but in the end the entire morning was clear. The comet's head of the eyes stood out only with difficulty after a long time of getting used to it. Image size of the larger image: 7 degrees 55 min x 4 degrees 57 min. In the video, the flickering of the comet's tail near the comet is due to the processing of the images.

Binocular comet ZTF

20.1.2023 at 22.30 - 23.50 - Laukaa (III)
Aleksi Ruotsila, Jyväskylän Sirius

I was able to forget the longer exposures when I realized how fast the tail of the comet was moving relative to the comet. In the videos (especially the version without stars) you can see the movement of the tail during about an hour. The picture has a total of 10 min of exposure (20x30sec).

Partial solar eclipse

25.10.2022 at 12.15 - 14.25 - Jyväskylä (III)
Aleksi Ruotsila, Jyväskylän Sirius

The beginning of the eclipse was visible through clouds of varying thickness, but when the weather cleared, I managed to put together a small timelapse of the end of the eclipse.

M51

2.4.2022 at 23.00 - Jyväskylä (III)
Aleksi Ruotsila, Jyväskylän Sirius

M51 Swirl gauge. At the end of the season, I still wanted to capture some galaxy with a camera lens. This was selected as a destination because it was visible in the backyard for several hours without the tops of the trees coming forward. The aperture of the lens was inadvertently slightly dimmed in f / 7.1, but on the other hand the stars look better this way.

NGC 7635, Sh2-157

24.3.2022 at 23.00 - Jyväskylä (IV)
Aleksi Ruotsila, Jyväskylän Sirius

Bubble fog environment. In the upper left corner Sh2-157 (Lobster Claw Nebula). Also included is a slightly different and more moderately handled version of the same data. Shooting on the ice of a lake doesn’t always work properly. Now at least the ice seems to move a bit and the follow-up jumps to exactly where it hurts. The situation improved as I moved the equipment closer to the beach.

M84, M86, M87

4.3.2022 at 23.00 - Jyväskylä (IV)
Aleksi Ruotsila, Jyväskylän Sirius

Markarian chain. A closer look at the background reveals a rather wild number of smaller galaxies.

M81, M82

3.3.2022 at 23.00 - Jyväskylä (IV)
Aleksi Ruotsila, Jyväskylän Sirius

M81 (Boden Galaxy) and M82 (Cigar Galaxy). The unlimited version also features a lot of smaller galaxies and a little IFN, which I cautiously highlighted.

IC 443

2.3.2022 at 23.00 - Uurainen (IV)
Aleksi Ruotsila, Jyväskylän Sirius

IC 443 - Jellyfish Nebula. Your supernova remnant is about 5,000 light-years away. An annoying amount of screens went to the trash due to thin clouds and otherwise foggy weather, but I still had a total of 11 hours of data left in my hand and I am reasonably pleased with the result.

All-sky aurora

15.1.2022 at 00.00 - 03.00 - Jyväskylä (V)
Aleksi Ruotsila, Jyväskylän Sirius

Pictures of a wonderful northern lights night. It’s hard to pick just eight pictures when so much of everything interesting happened in the sky over many hours.

NGC 1499

10.1.2022 at 23.00 - Jyväskylä (IV)
Aleksi Ruotsila, Jyväskylän Sirius

California fog. During December and January, the project, exposed from the clouds, eventually received almost 9 hours of light.

Binocular comet Leonard

5.12.2021 at 03.41 - 06.51 - Uurainen (III)
Aleksi Ruotsila

Comet C / 2021 A1 (Leonard) photographed in the morning hours. Also included is a short animation I made of the comet's motion. Image size 2 ° 10 'x 2 ° 10'.

IC 434, Barnard 33, NGC 2024, NGC 2023

4.12.2021 at 23.00 - Uurainen (V)
Aleksi Ruotsila, Jyväskylän Sirius

Yes, this is a great and diverse area with all its different mists. I took advantage of a couple of hours of data filmed last spring and filmed the remaining three in December. More would have been worth it, but conditions have supported the hobby very badly lately.

IC 1805, IC 1795

4.12.2021 at 22.00 - Uurainen (III)
Aleksi Ruotsila, Jyväskylän Sirius

Heart mist shot with dual-narrowband filter and color camera. The stars are from the data recorded with the light pollution filter a year ago: they are not very satisfied with them, but the colors were better than with the narrower filter.

Barnard 22, IC 2087

10.11.2021 at 23.00 - Uurainen (IV)
Aleksi Ruotsila

The Truly Gloomy Dark Nebula Barnard 22. Here are several reflections of fog from within; the clearest is the slightly small flame looking IC 2087. I now got several hours added to the picture I started last year, but unfortunately there has always been some thin cloud in the sky when describing this.

Starry sky image

10.11.2021 at 22.00 - Uurainen (IV)

The North Star and the really dim dust around it. A total of 6.6 hours of exposure.

Starry sky image

8.11.2021 at 23.00 - Uurainen (IV)
Aleksi Ruotsila

Quite an interesting area in the constellation of Swan. There are also several reflection mists among the dark mists, although they remain quite small in such a wide view. There are some reddish spots in the area that could very well have been kicked off with the H-alpha filter, but unfortunately these weathers don’t have enough time for that.

NGC 6960, NGC 6992

5.9.2021 at 23.00 - Jyväskylä (IV)
Aleksi Ruotsila

Harsosumu. This fall’s project for more light-polluting conditions and moonlit nights. My first attempt to combine rgb stars with fog described with a dual narrowband filter, so there is still room for improvement in processing. Filmed in August-September, it has been mostly cloudy since then. Two-panel mosaic; in each picture a total of about 7h exposure.
