At least 10 lightning strikes seen

22.7.2022 at 01.30 - 03.00 - Vaasa (IV)
Satu Rajamäki

Lightning - they were seen last night in Ostrobothnia. Several were left on the camera card, but not nearly all. The shooting location was not very spacious this time, but the equipment was protected from the rain. Some of the flashes were really bright.

Half-sky auroras

12.3.2022 at 01.15 - 01.55 - Vaasa, Vähäkyrö (IV)
Satu Rajamäki

I was filming the northern lights as early as night, but again came to the sky in one of the lands. Nothing but an expense. It was really great on the screen between about 1.15-2. The corona was postponed for a good while and a wide variety of shapes were fully visible during the night when I was on the road. The wavy quick "sweeps" went towards the zenith for a long time, it should have been videotaped. Exposure times were mainly 1-3 sec. Before the appearance of the corona, individual gentle spots appeared south of the most spectacular front, and shortly afterwards the Korona appeared.

Early in the evening the clouds filled the sky, but fortunately they moved away during the evening. Half of the eleven countries a new company that paid off. The going was really handsome then. The camera at 23.21-23.27 was noticeable possible delicate dunes? They were in several consecutive pictures, in the same place, although the northern lights otherwise lived "their own lives." Then I tried everything to get the picture with different settings. Exposure times were 1-3 sec.

I had popped in for a moment to photograph the starry sky and found that at very low it shows green with a long exposure. I thought the evening was in it. Wrong! Almost immediately back to the stations and for the next hour was allowed to follow the northern lights display. I photographed the northern lights between about 11 p.m. The arc of northern lights and the belt were visible, as well as the rays during the last show. The class was nicely active all the time. A few times, the red bottom was also visible to the naked eye. According to the car's meter, it was -21 degrees below zero. No...

5.10.2020 the moon would shine quite a bit. During the evening drive, I noticed that the northern lights were starting to show. At first there was a subtle arc of northern lights visible to the naked eye. I took pictures and tried different exposures under the flashlight. After just over half an hour, I was already gathering a camera in the car when I noticed that the sky was starting to pick up. Nothing but suddenly the camera is in place and taking pictures. The camera showed the top red in the first northern lights belt images, but I don’t remember if it was visible to the naked eye. At som...

A fireball at night, brighter than a full moon

29.9.2020 at 00.00 - Vaasa, Vähäkyrö (V)
Satu Rajamäki

I was photographing the northern lights the night between Mon-Tue and only at home did I notice that one of the latest pictures had a fireball in the picture below, etc.? The exposure time in the image was 3.2 seconds. I did not see the flight on the spot, only afterwards from the picture. It would probably have been great live :) The evening was all reasonably windless. Nor did I "quote" any special sound at that moment in the photo shoot. The evening was quiet, windless and peaceful.

The supper was interrupted when it started to rain harder and flashed and rolled. It started at 9.20pm and there was a pretty quick thunderstorm. Just over an hour later, another even shorter deaf man became. * I will add more later.

Rare halos

24.6.2020 at 11.07 - 11.13 - Vaasa (IV)
Satu Rajamäki

There should always be a camera and a tripod included. While taking a lunch break, I had to look at the sky and at the same time I was very annoyed to be without a camera. Fortunately, the phone was included and I got a few pictures. The air was very clear, but through the sunglasses he could see the halos well with his eyes. At first they were clearly visible and then diluted.

This time the phone came along, and I had to watch the sky a bit in the middle of the garden trees ???? The basic hall there was and still is visible.

When the evening came, the camera came along and went. After eleven, a barely perceptible arc began to appear. Luckily, it took a little life out of it as the clouds pushed from the west on top. I had time to describe for an hour. Let's see if the end of the season was here or if it still winds in suitable conditions :)

It didn’t bother me even though I had been hanging out all day. Just add the clothes over, juice into the thermar and go when the evening started to get dark. And it was worth it. The evening’s roar brought a nice nuance to the early night images and Venus can be seen in the sky as you go along. The evening started almost immediately with an active meinig, albeit quite low, but the main thing when even something was visible. I had time to shoot for an hour until the clouds began to fill the sky and I decided to go home.

Evening / night conditions / forecasts were excellent. Nothing but an expense. First a turn in the direction of Vöyri and there came a picture for a while. The idea of testing new northern lights shooting locations came to mind when repos were "time-constant-in-the-sky." On the way to the seashore, after stopping a couple of times along the road, I came to shoot when he saw that he was now smashing. At the seaside, time seemed to stop. Good weather, it didn't breathe too much, pretty reposet and the camera got to sing. The night lingered into the wee hours when you got back home, but it wa...

When evening came, I got to the open places. Fortunately, Repos still had something to show. The clouds brought a nice extra spice to the pictures. The snow had melted from the fields and it was really dark. The owl rumored in the nearby forest and a suitable wind blew across the fields. What about watching the colors of the sky while enjoying the silence. After Tov photographed and watched, it seemed that the repos were slowly fading, it was time to go home to look at the pictures.

Throughout the evening's wait, finally the values looked promising, as did the sky (cloudless). At first, the northern lights gauze was visible. Shortly afterwards, the repos began to run (unfortunately) the cloud streaks began to fly at the same rate from the northern sky, but fortunately did not quite cover the entire sky. The evening's show culminated in rapid, spectacular northern lights, which then ended "like a wall." The crown popped on, but the moonlight prevented him from seeing best. The lens was already so icy after a few hours outside that there was no need to turn the came...

At sunset, fog began to rise and the temperature sank to frost. I decided to go explore the scenery. Fog and sunlight are a nice combination - worth a visit :) The fog moved somewhat, so the perimeter was not visible for very long and the intensity of the colors varied greatly. It looked great anyway.

The lunar eclipse of the moon made the gaze turn to the sky tonight. The wind was icy. No matter how much the cloud ferry flowed forward, annoyed, sometimes the whole moon was not visible, sometimes fortunately a small glimpse. Fortunately, the cloud ferry flew away and the clear sky was minutes away. At the end of the cloud board, the whole family could enjoy watching the great orbit of the moon. It only took about 5 minutes. I don’t remember seeing that big ring. The colors were very clearly visible. Here's a couple pictures, I'll put more later.

A fireball at night, brigter than the venus

7.10.2018 at 22.42 - Laihia
Satu Rajamäki

Yesterday I was with a guy filming repos. The plane came into the picture field appropriately, so I decided to take the longest exposure of the evening, 8 seconds. And luckily, for a little while later, I admired quite a smokehouse in the sky. I had already pressed the camera button to take a picture when I noticed that something was coming towards Otava at a brisk pace. The light was not as bright as a starburst / fireball. But what caught my attention was the smoky "clump" behind it. Too bad the picture didn't stick as a smoke, it was obviously too lukewarm in terms of conditions and equ...

It was already decided during the day with a friend that a decent evening run would be done in the evening, when the forecasts were really promising. When we got to the beach, the first repo show of the evening started right away, it was filmed and admired by a good tovi. At the end of the show it was decided to drink a cup of tea and refuel with sandwiches as the evening was still going on. The second show was even more active than the first. The challenge was illustrated by the brightness and speed of the northern lights, relative to the darkness of the environment. I guess repos during the ...

Rare halos

Yesterday there were wonderful halos in the sky. Annoyed that the camera was not included. The pictures on the cell phone are still better than nothing :) The video focus didn’t stay sharp all the time, and I didn’t see the screen very well when the sun was so bright. Many people stopped on the street to look and "heaven." Some of these, like the 120-degree side sun (if I correctly detected it), I saw live for the first time.
