One halo form

17.6.2018 at 14.26 - Kuopio (I)
Hannu Hoffrén

After the shopping trip, a tense cloud of veils caught my eye with a slight oily discoloration on the edge. A small piece of halo also hit the same veil. I grabbed the camera and still wary of the polarizing filter to see if it would get any color off. I didn't get the insane difference in the different positions of the filter, this was probably the clearest flicker. Attached is a heavily adjusted version and a raw version. Own observation of color clouds here https://www.taivaanvahti.fi/observations/show/74651

Auroras seen through breaks in the clouds

28.3.2017 at 01.00 - 01.30 - Kuopio (II)
Hannu Hoffrén

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oh79GXn8z6E The previous bigger bang of the evening went unnoticed, but I still recovered these aftermath. Visually, I didn’t notice those quick fluttering, only those brightest calm particles stood out with my eyes. The shutter speed was 2.5 seconds per frame, so the video speed is approximately 1 s video = 1 minute correct time.

Protonikaariko !? https://youtu.be/KPdjwMNhhQA On the last day of September, expectations for the northern lights were quite high and even the kelas nazed. Well, of course, to describe the timelapse and this time with the shortest possible exposures that leave more detail of the shapes. But but, nothing was seen there then, only a really thin gauze in the western sky. When it was so windy and the clouds hit, so the home help from there came in disappointment. Only today, just over a week later, I decided to unpack the pictures and check out what even that thin gauze looked like. Now here’s nut...

Rare halos

20.7.2016 at 14.02 - Kuopio (IV)
Hannu Hoffrén

From lunch I returned home so when I glanced at the sky I assumed there was a piece of 22º ring, I grabbed a couple of pictures when it was both well visible. It wasn’t until Facebook’s Natural Phenomena group revealed that this could be a slightly rarer case. Unfortunately, I had cleaned up my phone and the settings for the HDR app I reloaded had deselected to have saved all three exposures per image. Well, after the fire, at least now back on. Here are just my own stacks made by the app.

Primary rainbow

5.9.2015 at 18.51 - Kuopio (I)
Hannu Hoffrén

In a hurry, maybe ten minutes, an extra rainbow of that time was faintly visible. Maybe from reflection? The more common beginning of the second arc itself can be seen in that area of the tree. I took several pictures on my mobile phone and here I attached it from which it stands out most clearly. Another original and another twisted Lightroom. The arch brightened considerably after a while, but before that that more special arch disappeared.

Bright night shining clouds

8.8.2015 at 03.00 - Kuopio (IV)
Hannu Hoffrén

Timelapse: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wfj3ys4DbAQ One and a half countries were used for the evening swim, and by then the fringes were already visible. I forgot about the clouds completely until morning, I remembered to glance at the balcony and a great presentation was there. Too bad that the balcony is in the wrong direction. He was too lazy / tired to leave the door looking for another place to shoot.

A fireball at night, as bright as a full moon

18.3.2015 at 21.02 - Kuopio (V)
Hannu Hoffrén

I left the camera to shoot the northern lights, I didn’t see the fireball myself. I thought the bright line in the series at first was an airplane, because that total duration, five two-second exposures, and shutter breaks, seemed far too far for the fireball. On Facebook, I only noticed the observations of others and started checking out the series of pictures again. :) Video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=7EQR0qk8n1I

Comet with naked eye coma PANSTARRS

3.4.2013 at 22.32 - Kuopio (IV)
Hannu Hoffrén

I was thinking about testing how the comet is still captured by the camera, that is, I just described it with the Canon base tube (EF-S 55-250). There was no intention to take any more miraculous picture of this subject, but the satellite flash did happen at a great time in power.

Koko taivaan revontulet

17.3.2013 at 21.10 - Kuopio (V)
Hannu Hoffrén

Timelapse http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xI_qG0DuuMU After initial camera flares and panic, these eventually became the best northern lights of my life. The duration was long enough to be enjoyed properly. Unfortunately, there was another camera while traveling so I had to nut between the timel kid and the stills. I still got those pictures significantly more and better than in previous sessions. For myself, a new phenomenon (or at least I don’t remember that strong) was the continuous “pulses” of less than half a second that swept across the sky. A truly confusing experience, just as if someo...

Transit of venus

6.6.2012 at 07.50 - Kuopio (V)
Hannu Hoffrén

I hadn’t found a filler anywhere the day before, but luckily there was just the right kind of cloud curtain to dim appropriately.
