Landscape image of a planet

6.3.2023 at 19.50 - 21.40 - Teneriffa, Kanariansaaret, Espanja (IV)
Sari Pietikäinen, Corona Borealis, Rovaniemi

Had to go a little further to look for a clear sky... And still it went wrong. :D Low clouds don't really bother you, but of course there was almost a full moon and high clouds on the evening of your shoot. Well. I do not care. This trip was a rare treat. The guy sat in the car on a picnic for almost a couple of hours, which I played with the camera in the scenery of Roques de Garcia. Then, in the dark, the serpentine road back to the accommodation. Yes, those Venus and Jupiter are still quite close to each other, even though I missed the best moment while traveling.

Uranuksen peitto

Ollappa telescope.... But no, so I had to try to reach Uranus from my home balcony with just a trick. And that's where it was found above the city lights. After all, the difference in brightness between the objects is so great that there's no way to get anything out of filming. At least I got something on film. I would have liked to draw some illustrative arrows on that composite picture, when it is really hard to find the planet in the pictures at the end, but again I ran out of photoshop skills. :D That's Uranus over there.

Active aurora band

Sari Pietikäinen, Corona Borealis, Rovaniemi

Yay! I got the dancing northern lights as a Christmas present. :) The night before I left hopeful for the filming location, where I filmed a small dim arch the night before. Now the repose was a little brighter and more active. A couple of hours to wonder and photograph before moving on to the Christmas treats...

Sun

30.10.2022 at 14.30 - Oulu (III)
Sari Pietikäinen, Corona Borealis, Rovaniemi

I caught the sun and a couple of sunspots when it roared straight onto my balcony. :) The camera was still in summer time, so the time in the picture is wrong. 2:30 p.m. was actually the time.

Partial solar eclipse

Well yeah. We had some clouds in Rovaniemi, but I nevertheless set out with hope to shoot... There seemed to be some initial difficulties with focusing the camera, when the subject was so strongly behind the clouds. The first picture was taken at 12:13, as soon as the sun was visible for a long enough time that I got the settings and focus more or less right. I took the first pictures with a filter, but soon I gave it up and just shot through the clouds. There wasn't much to describe. 13:04, so around the time of the second picture there was a longer translucent moment in the clouds, and t...

All-sky aurora

23.10.2022 at 20.55 - 00.15 - Ylitornio (V)
Sari Pietikäinen, Corona Borealis, Rovaniemi

It was a nice decision for autumn vacation! :) Clear skies, and good forecasts for repos. I went to check out a new possible filming location near Rovaniemi, but it wasn't good, and the repos weren't too bad at 21, so I continued "a little" further to another new filming location in Raanujärvi. The place was quite good, except for the freezing wine and the tourists playing with the lights. But I couldn't be bothered by them for long when the lights were properly lit. And the tourists gave up before the best show. There were many kinds of repo dance in the sky. The entire time the a...

Half-sky auroras

23.9.2022 at 22.10 - 23.50 - Rovaniemi (II)
Sari Pietikäinen, Corona Borealis, Rovaniemi

Friday night's restlessness hit me and I left with the camera in the dark... :D After arriving at the shooting location, I realized that the clouds were rising ominously from the north. The camera found faint reposes behind the clouds. I photographed them and tested different camera settings for fun. At some point, the repose rose up to the crown, but still remained very dim. Looking at it with the naked eye, I couldn't distinguish colors, only gray.. In the end, the clouds and the rapid created a pretty nice atmosphere for the pictures, even though it was a bit gloomy. As midnight app...

Half-sky auroras

Sari Pietikäinen, Corona Borealis, Rovaniemi

It wasn't even supposed to be cloudless here.... Well. It was, however, and I got the crazy idea to go take a picture of the sky in the middle of the work week. The next day, you will feel that you have watched. :D There were beautiful reposes with reflections, so it was still worth watching. When I got to the shooting location, there was a peaceful arc in the sky that was just visible to the naked eye. From there it gradually brightened while the sky darkened. In the end, the show reached the corona, which, unfortunately, was already a bit covered in clouds. At midnight, a group of touris...

Landscape image of a planet

27.8.2022 at 01.30 - Rovaniemi (IV)
Sari Pietikäinen, Corona Borealis, Rovaniemi

I started celebrating Finland's Nature Day just after midnight... My dream was to capture the first repos of the season or even something on film. And in the end, all kinds of it was found in the sky. Here, Jupiter and Mars settled nicely around the trees.

Milky way

Sari Pietikäinen, Corona Borealis, Rovaniemi

Celebrating Finland's Nature Day right after midnight. At night, I checked out a new shooting location, and oh boy, there was a great view of the Milky Way. Tämmönen then, after a little adjustment, took shape.

Lunar corona

Sari Pietikäinen, Corona Borealis, Rovaniemi

Sometimes you have to start the night photography season, and for me that moment was this. I would have liked less clouds and more darkness, but... I saw one Perseid through a cloud gap at some point during the night. (Or the darkest hour I was in the yard. ) So no Perseids, no northern lights, and no illuminating night clouds. But a nice ring around the moon nonetheless. And Jupiter over there is also trying to rumble through the clouds.

Sun

The sun blazed so handsomely on the balcony that I had to dig out the shooting tools for a long time. Nice commas! The color of the picture is "artist's view".

After all, it was time to test how to get an "accurate" picture of the sun with a standard & self-made sunscreen filter. Well. Like this. The dots stand out quite nicely. :) Color is a post-adjusted view of the artist.

Half-sky auroras

Sari Pietikäinen, Corona Borealis, Rovaniemi

For a long time it was possible to go to heaven with the camera. And it was worth it. I have managed to miss all the finest shows of the spring, but if there will be any more. You will be soaring in the sky when I got to the scene. Or actually, the place was finally chosen according to the fact that I had to get to but suddenly shoot, so the car was parked and in the swamp ... Luckily there was still a little frost, so the path carried. In it, I photographed repos and I wondered about the starry sky before the active lights faded away and the greenish gauze remained.

Sari Pietikäinen, Corona Borealis, Rovaniemi

After all, on Valentine's Day, I had to defy the -20 ° frost and go under the Bridge of Friendship to hunt repos. Tovin described the northern sky from the opposite shore, but the greenery was very faint. The camera just saw the northern lights until they completely disappeared. When I returned to the car, I still admired Orion and the landscape illuminated by the bright moonlight. This became a pretty Valentine's Day picture. :)

Quiet aurora arc

17.1.2022 at 21.55 - 22.30 - Rovaniemi (II)
Sari Pietikäinen, Corona Borealis, Rovaniemi

A cloudless evening enticed us to watch live cameras from the north. At some point, green started to appear in the pictures, so I jumped in the car and headed a little further away from the downtown lights. When I got to the scene, there was a dim arc in the sky. The full moon was blinding, but there were some obvious repos. I described my time, and gave up when the fire was no longer visible to the naked eye. However, the picture taken at 22.30 still shows dim green, so there they remained in the sky ... Slightly dim northern lights, but it was a nice calm and quiet evening with the camera. :...

Half-sky auroras

Sari Pietikäinen, Corona Borealis, Rovaniemi

We had agreed on the first observation of the year of the association for the Olkkajärvi shed, so we gathered with a small group at 18 to marvel at the Moon and Jupiter. Well, Jupiter just had time to flash behind the trees before the telescope was set up .... Northern lights were predicted to wait until the next night, but I still had a camera on the way. I immediately took pictures in it, and the camera found a calm belt right away. That's how the belt rumbled unchanged at times, sometimes something was visible. At 19, a little more life began to come into repos. His eyes could already s...

Lunar corona

18.12.2021 at 19.00 - 19.14 - Rovaniemi
Sari Pietikäinen, Corona Borealis, Rovaniemi

The fall season has slipped past so I haven’t really gotten to shoot anything. Today, the sky was clear for a little while, and at the same time idle time, so without further ado I left for the yard with the camera. The dream was to even get a picture with stars and snowy trees. Well, that was it. The roar of the moon, when I could shine a little less, I would have gotten better stars in the pictures, but I don't choose. I got to see this great circle as the cloud passed in front of the moon. It was difficult to make the perimeter stand out from the pictures. I tried all sorts of adjustmen...

Rocket-related clouds

27.9.2021 at 22.39 - 22.42 - Rovaniemi (IV)
Sari Pietikäinen, Corona Borealis, Rovaniemi

Oops! I had just arrived to photograph the northern lights and took a few test shots of the landscape. The dim arch in the sky roared. I photographed the reflections of the moon on the river when I saw something bright in the other direction with the side eye. Suddenly the camera is there and with the same settings to shoot. I didn’t realize what that bluish ball of light was until I remembered the rocket launch a couple of weeks ago. Which I missed my laziness. :( This must have been a lot of people. Great! The camera clock seemed to be 2 minutes and 10 seconds ahead, so in reality the first ...

Quiet aurora arc

27.8.2021 at 00.18 - Oulu (II)
Sari Pietikäinen, Corona Borealis, Rovaniemi

Oops! My northern lights shooting season started stealthily. On Thursday night, I was driving north from Oulu and somewhere Ii had to stop by the road to shoot when something "northern lights suspicious" flashed in the side window. Well. The pictures revealed that there were clouds then, however. But only a few days later, when I got to the bigger screen, I realized that the pictures taken later that evening on the Oulu side show that there is a dim arc visible. Jeij! Then the storm of Friday night blissfully missed it ...
