The shadow of the earth was clearly visible in the morning by work. The setting moon was almost on the horizon.

      Maan varjo on kirjaimellisesti Maapallon varjo taivaalla. Se nousee näkyviin Aurinkoon nähden vastakkaisella taivaalla samalla kun Aurinko vajoaa horisontin alle. Ilmiö näkyy tummana horisontin suuntaisena taivaan kaistaleena.

      Maan varjon yläreunassa esiintyy yleensä punertava värireuna, joka on vastarusko. Ruskoille ja vastaruskoille ei ole erillistä tunnistusta Taivaanvahdissa, koska tavanomaiset ilta- ja aamuruskot ovat erittäin yleisiä.
