Visibility IV / V
The ferocity of this Northern Lights show came pretty much out of the blue for me. The lights were brighter than in the shows a month ago and the red color was also clearly visible to the naked eye. At their peak, the aurora borealis covered well over half of the sky and extended far into the southern half of the sky. The display was dominated by a long-lasting aurora corona, which twisted and pulsated like some strange living creature overhead, sometimes resembling a bird, sometimes an octopus, a big eye or a tunnel. The most exciting moment was the appearance of the "green ghost" seen in the first picture. Suddenly, above me hovered between the wisps of clouds a huge, fluttering and quivering figure shrouded in a green robe, with only darkness and emptiness in the place of its face. I hastily turned the camera towards that apparition and pressed the remote shutter button in amazement at the sight. Half a minute later, the northern lights changed shape again and the figure disappeared.
