Starlink G2-4 - 19.4.2023 at 02.08 - 19.4.2023 at 02.14 Taivassalo Observation number 115382

Visibility III / V

Last night I was looking at the sky from the terrace, looking for satellites, when my eyes caught a spot among the stars where I saw a flash..I stopped to look at the spot and I saw just like a small shooting star..a really short one..then another one came in the same place..a third one..about every 5-10 seconds and in the same place..there were dozens of these streaks of light until I asked my wife to look at the phenomenon..address. where to look and we still saw a few streaks of light. until they ran out. There were about 25-30 light strings. during its 5-6 min and all from the same point. The flight path was really short..all the streaks/flashes came and went out between a few stars, near Dragon's two bright stars...is there any explanation for this? t. Ari Korhonen

Tälle ilmiölle löytyi hyvin täsmääväksi seltykseksi Starlink -satelliittien letka.

Tyypillisesti laukausun jälkeisinä öinä letkan voi nähdä kokonaisuudessaan, useana peräkkäin kulkevana valopisteenä. Tässä havainnossa laukaisusta oli kulunut jo kolme kuukautta, jolloin satelliitit olivat jo ehtineet piiloutua katseilta joko nousemalla vähän ylemmäs tai sitten kääntämällä paneelinsa sellaiseen asentoon, että eivät enää näy maanpinnalle - lukuunottamatta pientä hetkeä, jolloin auringonvalo heijastui sopivasti jostain satelliitin rakenteesta tietyssä kohtaa rataa, missä kaikki satelliitit vuorollaan tuikahtivat lyhytaikaisesti.
