Quiet aurora band - 27.2.2012 at 19.38 Jyväskylä Observation number 2194

Visibility II / V

I was watching the Jupiter, Venus, Moon combination with the camera when I saw something nebulous in the northern sky that was moving suspiciously fast. For years, I had unsuccessfully tried to see the northern lights even at a glance, so my heart rate jumped high and I rushed to the nearest dark meadow opening with a camera on my shoulder. And that's where those "curtains" fluttered in the cosmic north wind! In all the hustle and bustle, I didn’t mind putting the camera in manual focus but with auto-adjustment, the camera sang for half an hour as I sat next to it hanging out admiring the play. I then invited my 5 year old son next to me to watch him the first "repos" of his life.
