Transit of venus - 6.6.2012 at 07.03 Varkaus Observation number 5220

Visibility II / V

Esa Heikkinen, Warkauden Kassiopeia

The passage of Venus was also monitored in Varkaus, on the shores of Komminselä. The thick cloud cover prevented detection quite effectively and made photography almost impossible. The first moderately successful images were not obtained until after 7 o'clock, but even in these the sun was not clearly visible, but partly behind the cloud. The changing Cloudiness made e.g. difficult to adjust the shutter speed, a large number of shots were either overexposed or underexposed when the setting suitable for the previous image no longer applied to the next one at all. The sun was usually only visible for a few seconds at a time from the cracks in the thick cloud cover. The H-Alpha filter was also intended to be described, but the system was pre-regulated e.g. in terms of focus and exposure, it was not possible in the seconds that the sun occasionally flashed from the vacation of the clouds.

Esa Heikkinen, Anni Heikkinen, Veli-Pekka Hentunen and Kullervo Hirvonen were present at the scene.
