Negative observation of missing night shining clouds - 9.6.2012 at 01.15 - 9.6.2012 at 02.00 Ikaalinen Observation number 5429

Visibility Unclassified

Juha Ojanperä, Porin Karhunvartijat

I was driving from Turku back to Seitseminen National Park, and on the way I took a short break at Ikaalinen. I happened to find an observation site with good visibility to the north, and elsewhere. In my time I trembled in the sky, but I saw no sign of night clouds. The weather was clear throughout my observation period. At the same time, I also observed the Moon rising from the southeast, around which I thought a weak pollen circle had been seen. I made a separate observation about this phenomenon:

Additional information
  • Negative observation
    • Negative observation of noctilucent clouds info

The negative observation of the noctilucent clouds is made in good conditions and with long enough duration (eg. 15 minutes or half an hour) with no noctilucent clouds visible.

The observation have to be made only in the visibility period of noctilucent cloud (May to August), and when the twilight sky dark enough (the Sun several degrees below the horizon), but when it is not totally dark.

During the observation you have to be sure, there is an open and wide enough view towards the visibility direction of the noctilucent clouds. Note, that in midsummer it is possible to see noctilucent clouds southward the zenith. With the open view take into account of both horizont obstructions and clouds.
