4197 Morpheus (1982 TA) Filmed on a DS weekend Sunday. The Apollo NEO PHA asteroid was discovered by Eugene Shoemaker and Eleanor Helin at the Palomar Mountain Observatory on October 11, 1982. Eleanor Francis "Glo" Helin (Eleanor Kay Helin) is an American astronomer who has found a large number of asteroids (over 900) and several comets. chief scientist at NASA JPL .Eugene Merle Shoemaker (Gene) An American geologist who specialized in planetary geology. He is especially remembered for the Shoemaker – Levy 9 pearl tape comet that collided with Jupiter, the collision of which he predicted. The name 4197 Morpheus is derived from Roman mythology where he is the god of sleep who had a thousand siblings, Morpheus is also the god of dreams who appears in Ovid's "Metamorphoses".
