Jupiter rose above the horizon as a shining star, beneath it a fiery red glowing spark of Mars. The sight was visually exceptionally beautiful. Jupiter was only about 9 degrees high, and the big Dobson could only be barely pointed so down. With a planetary camera, I would click the image through the infrared filter. There was so much cloud cover in the sky that the moons of Jupiter remained invisible, and the details of the shallows did not come off.
