Quiet aurora band - 31.3.2018 at 23.15 Inari Observation number 72452

Visibility II / V

Sari Pietikäinen, Corona Borealis, Rovaniemi

I guess the northern lights shooting season will be here. It’s starting to get too bright already, and that full moon roaring in the sky now didn’t really help. However, I left Saariselkä hopefully towards Magneettimäki's P-place with the camera. Nothing is visible anywhere, but I took a couple of test shots from the reserve, and that’s where they come hiding in the clouds. For a long time no green was found in the pictures, and I turned to photograph the halo of the moon ...

Bands are usually narrower, more twisty at the bottom, brighter, and more active than arches. Bands usually develop from arches.

Bands can form J and U shapes, sometimes even full spirals. The corona can also arise from bands. Bands are a fairly common form of aurora.

Kiva tunnelma. Pienimuotoisetkin revontulet voi näyttää hauskoilta kuutamovalaistuksessa.
