Telescopic comet Russell-LINEAR

20.12.2020 at 21.35 - 22.35 - Fregenal de la Sierra, Espanja (III)
Tapio Lahtinen, Tampereen Ursa

I photographed a comet in Pegasus in a good location with a Spanish telescope, which, based on the pictures, seemed to have a tail. At the same time, I tried a slightly longer exposure following the comet. Well, not very many tails came out despite this (it may be that the rising moon, not so far away, hampered some of the visibility). The second image is an image processed with a Larson-Sekanina filter to highlight the rotating tail. The third image is a single 5-minute green channel image of the entire image field.

Jorma Ryske, Etelä-Suomen kosmol. seura

C/2020 M3 (ATLAS) is moving farther away from earth but is still relatively near at distance 0,45AU. I tried to observe comets rotating CN gas jet which was visible earlier 20.11.2020. Seems that the CN jet is still visible but clear rotation is no more observable. Telescopic comet ATLAS

7.12.2020 at 22.07 - Mänttä-Vilppula (III)
Jukka Laakso

A comet that has reached the constellation of the driver, photographed in a strong mood from the nearby beach. Surprisingly, the wind rattled a small telescope.

Binocular comet ATLAS

7.12.2020 at 21.02 - 21.23 - Orimattila, Artjärvi, Tähtikallio (III)
Kari Laihia, Toni Veikkolainen, Porin Karhunvartijat

C / 2020 M3 (ATLAS) The comet was filmed on the first night of Toni's December Star Climbing DS shooting visit. The comet was discovered by ATLAS's asteroid search program The Asteroid Terrestrial-impact Last Alert System & #40;T08& #41; June 27, 2020. The comet was discovered by the ATLAS-2 ATLAS-MLO (T08) telescope in Hawaii. Comet C / 2020 M3 is likely a member of the Halley family and its current C / class will later become a periodic P class. It was in its family life on October 25, 2020 at a distance of 1.27au from the sun. At its furthest it will be in the Kuiper zone of 52.4au....

Binocular comet ATLAS

23.11.2020 at 00.35 - Järvenpää (III)
Toni Veikkolainen, Keski-Uudenmaan Altair

Several comets known by the abbreviation ATLAS have moved in this year's night sky. The brightest of them at the moment I had photographed with camera optics earlier in November . I decided to target the comet with a telescope as well. Admittedly, I didn’t have time to collect the exposures for a very long time before the clouds came. In fact, probably a thin cloud already had time to cause noise in the images.

Binocular comet ATLAS

22.11.2020 at 03.00 - Kokemäki (III)
Tomi Kurri, Porin Karhunvartijat

The second night of the Bear Guards Acturus 2020 observation trip, in addition to the northern lights, also provided an opportunity to photograph the ATLAS comet in the constellation of Orion. The comet has already moved above Orion's head. The red hydrogen mist is SH2-264 or "Lambda Orionis Ring". Due to random clouds, I only got a shutter speed of 13 minutes this time, but that was enough.

Telescopic comet ATLAS

21.11.2020 at 00.00 - Kokemäki (III)
Juha Ojanperä, Porin Karhunvartijat

Comet C / 2020 M3 (ATLAS) observed at the Pori Bear Guard Arcturus 2020 event in Kokemäki on the shore of Sääksjärvi meteorite crater. The coma of the comet appeared as a round, hazy spot, the brightness of the comet slowly increasing towards the center. Weak central brightness in the middle. The visual tail was not visible. Degree of compaction (DC): 6 Coma diameter: 3.5 '

Telescopic comet ATLAS

Jorma Ryske, Etelä-Suomen kosmol. seura

Comet C/2020 M3 (ATLAS) is quite near earth 0,36au and it's Sun distance is 1,33au. It is emitting cyanogen CN gas with rate Q(CN)=1.62+ E25 s-1 (14.11.2020 http://www.astronomerstelegram.org/?read=14174). It is about the same rate as 46P/Wirtanen had two years ago (18.12.2018 Q(CN)= 1.17E+25 s-1) of which rotating CN jet was then clearly observed. Image 1) Animation of 4 frames, each stacked 60 minute exposure through CN/387nm narrowband filter and CometCIEF processed. Some amount of CN jet rotation is visible during ~4 hours of frames mid-exposures. Image 2) CN filter exposure 12x300s=60 min...

Telescopic comet ATLAS

10.11.2020 at 01.57 - Kauhava (III)
Jari Kankaanpää, Lakeuden Ursa

Squirts under Orion's belt. A little silly cropping, but let's act as a reference if someone wants to check where the comet is.

Telescopic comet ATLAS

9.11.2020 at 23.00 - Kuusamo (III)
Voitto Pitkanen, Ursa (Pohjois-Suomi)

The comet has come to be watched for several nights, but the clouds have disturbed the view just east. This evening was the best and perseverance was rewarded.

Telescopic comet Russell-LINEAR

9.11.2020 at 19.28 - 20.26 - Valtimo (II)
Veli-Pekka Häkkinen

A week ago, a dimmer comet was filmed, with the tail still visible.

Telescopic comet ATLAS

9.11.2020 at 03.02 - 03.25 - Varkaus (II)
Veli-Pekka Hentunen, Warkauden Kassiopeia

Comet C / 2020 M3 (ATLAS) photographed with a C-14 telescope and an SBIG ST-8XME CCD camera at the Härkämäki Observatory on 9 November 2020 from 03.02 to 03.25 Finnish time. The image is assembled from a 15 x 80 s R-filter image. The size of the image field is about 7 'x 5'. In the picture, the north is at the top and the east is on the left. The target is currently located in the constellation Orion on the west side of the belt.

Telescopic comet ATLAS

9.11.2020 at 00.09 - 01.00 - Jyväskylä (III)
Harri Kiiskinen, Jyväskylän Sirius

For repetition of observations from the ATLAS comet. I shot 10 images on each color channel, but more than half of the screens were again spoiled by the gauze. However, a few valid squares were found there, so I got a fake picture of the comet. The bright star to the left of the comet is Eta Orionis.

Binocular comet ATLAS

8.11.2020 at 23.45 - Järvenpää (III)
Toni Veikkolainen, Keski-Uudenmaan Altair

The series of binocular comets continued this year when the C / 2020 M3 (ATLAS) ran on the edge of Orion's famous constellation. I came up with the comet as a fog spot from the direction in which the light pollution gradients bring their own disgusting addition to the images.

Telescopic comet ATLAS

8.11.2020 at 23.10 - Akaa
Markku Ruonala

An easy-to-find comet was available, so it had to be spotted. There were no binoculars / telescopes included, so no visual observation was made.

Telescopic comet ATLAS

8.11.2020 at 03.00 - Mänttä-Vilppula (III)
Jukka Laakso

After hasty initial preparations, there were only about 6 minutes of valid shooting time left between the two cloud boards, but a good start was achieved with 135mm optics.

Search result contains observations from time period 1.1.2020 klo 00.00 - 31.12.2020 klo 23.59.
