Half-sky auroras

14.1.2022 at 20.10 - 06.00 - Ulvila (IV)
Juha Ojanperä, Porin Karhunvartijat

Näyttävä, parhaimmillaan puolen taivaan revontulinäytelmä oli tallentunut Karhukameraan yöllä 14./15.1.2022. Revontulet ilmestyivät jo alkuillasta ja jatkuivat aamu-kuuteen asti. Kirkas kuutamo ja ajoittain runsas pilvisyys haittasivat ajoittain revontulinäytelmän näkymistä, varsinkin alkuillasta.

Active aurora band

1.1.2022 at 19.58 - Ulvila (III)
Vesa Puistovaara, Porin Karhunvartijat

The third newcomer to the Bear Camera project briefly noticed an activated arc of northern lights. The camera had only been on the roof of the observatory for about an hour. Using the existing equipment, we came up with a new utility for this camera (Imaging Source DBK 41AU02. AS) as a northern lights camera ... "low-cost", ie adding a small budget to the project. ... and right after the findings, the report came with a new USB extension cord that would work. So it's that cheap idea again ... so the video connection was cut off for a very short time :)

Quiet aurora arc

4.12.2021 at 21.14 - 02.50 - Ulvila (II)
Juha Ojanperä, Porin Karhunvartijat

The modest northern lights of the night of December 4-5, 2021 had also been recorded in the images of the Bear Camera. During the night, a very dim, calm arc of northern lights was visible in the very low northern horizon. The first time the arc appeared was from 9:14 pm to 9:50 pm and the second time at about 1:06 am to 2:50 pm. The arc is best seen in the video, it can be difficult to distinguish from individual images.

IRIDIUM 107

1.12.2021 at 07.02 - Ulvila
Vesa Puistovaara, Porin Karhunvartijat

100 satellites - one of them I finally completed my project for the past year (2021). The main idea of the whole thing was mainly to monitor the operation of the Bear Camera, but also to detect 100 streaks left by the ERI satellites in the images taken by the camera. Precipitation observation , IRIDIUM 107, part of the 'Iridium NEXT' generation. The new Iridium is ultimately a rather modest glimpse into the starry sky observers, compared to previous Iridium satellites. (The remaining 99 satellite observations can still be seen here from the moment of publication: www.karhunvartijat.fi/...

Okean-O

28.9.2021 at 20.40 - Ulvila
Vesa Puistovaara, Porin Karhunvartijat

Okay, Okean-O satellite pictured. It may be necessary to clarify this observation a little. In early 2021, I set a desire & goal for myself to recover the ‘streak’ left by 100 different satellites in the Bear Camera. However, this is the so-called allsky camera, so it is almost impossible to capture any single phenomenon or event from the images in the camera. Instead, I realized that I could try to get to know the world of satellites myself - when they are enough, almost annoyingly ... but also because they are quite visible celestial bodies. The Bongaa 100 , organized in honor of Ursa's ...

Half-sky auroras

17.9.2021 at 23.00 - 23.59 - Ulvila (IV)
Vesa Puistovaara, Porin Karhunvartijat

Quite a northern lights show was recorded at the Bear Camera last night. It was a bit of luck insofar as the camera had been off for a whole week due to a software update, but I got the job done spinning at just the right time. After all, I couldn't properly prepare for this, even the clouds were promised ... the shooting settings were still in search. #sarg

One halo form

5.9.2021 at 09.22 - Ulvila (I)
Vesa Puistovaara, Porin Karhunvartijat

Today, the 22 ° ring was visible for several hours. In the morning, it was also watched by the more winged ‘sky watcher’ on top of the Bear Camera, resting for a moment. --- edit 5.9. at: 22 --- 2.image added, which may reveal the illusion of cloud ferries for possible identification. Thanks Tero for the comment, and good attention yes! The picture still shows 22ast rings, even though the morning observer is gone :)
